Thought I would share, playing my LE today and the right flipper on the black pearl got stuck on. Checked linkage, end of stroke, wiring and switches on cabinet. Went into test mode and all checked out fine, but the minute I pulled coin door coil switch, the flipper activated. I have had this type of issue before on my Bally/Williams machines and usually a shorted transistor on driver board. Called and talked to Lloyd and confirmed my thoughts. This was also confirmed by once I pulled the driver board out and tested the transistor I suspected and is shorted. Sad to see this happen on such a new machine, but it's pinball! Ordered a new transistor.

I already ordered. Thanks for the detailed instructions. We all appreciate it.

Hello pinball pirates. Have an on going issue I need help with. My small display in the apron flickers on/off at times. This is more notable when the machine is under play and the flippers are in use. Thinking a grounding issue, short and/or cold solder connection. Upon removing the apron the power wires were damaged some. I fixed the wires and reflowed the power connections, but the issue continues to persist.
Your thoughts on what to do next.

Thanks Houdini I will try that and follow up with how it goes.

Quoted from MK6PIN:

New owner here...finally joined in...beautiful game, extreme low play huo LE.
doing minor adjustment switch stuff...everything good.
Suddenly have noticed my compass LCD screen flickering. checked connections, changed VGA cable, no improvement.
Starting to think the 5v is intermittent (?). Flickering happens w flipper action but random. Ideas? Thanks

I am having the same issue. I took mine out and thought cold solder joints on power. Reflowed and the problem is still there.

Quoted from zaphX:

I wonder if it's the ATX power supply. When mine went, I was able to reboot the game doing energy-intensive things like spamming the knocker in the coil test.
Any correlation between coils firing and the flickering on the LCD?

Not sure if it's the power supply. I would not think that on mine as I was able to pull out the playfield and with the LCD working I could tap around the display and it would flicker. I am assuming its possibly the ribbon cabling between the board and the display. Not sure how to fix this through.

Quoted from MK6PIN:

Fixed...bad driver board for LCD....( P/s actually 12v)...got assembly from JJP...great service. A little assembly required, but nothing tough

Quoted from MK6PIN:

Not the ribbon cable on mine...reseated everything ...tapping on the driver board ( under the LCD screen) was the giveaway...

So let me understand this correctly by rebuilding the power supply for the small LCD screen, the board under the screen itself, that fixed your screen flicker. Did JJP send you a kit for repairs I am assuming.

Quoted from MK6PIN:

I identified the problem to be in the LCD driver board, which lives underneath the actual screen itself. They are connected by the mini ribbon cable. This forms the assembly, along w related nylon screws, housing, etc. Verifying, reseated everything first, then could easily replicate problem by tapping on the board.
Not sure which component on the board was intermittent, so purchased new screen and complete driver board from JJP.
Once new parts installed, display has been rock solid.
Not a difficult swap, just have to take care w the lacquered ribbon cable seating...
Hope that helped. Jim at JJP got me what I needed...

Thank you for the follow up. Were the two parts expensive to replace? Just hate the idea of having to pay for new parts so soon after I got the machine.

Quoted from MK6PIN:

I think around $70 for both pieces plus freight...my panel was good, but bought it anyway to be safe....

Thank you for the information. I'll give them a call today and check on ordering the parts. Glad you were able to get yours fixed.

Thought I would give an update on this that worked for me. I finely got around to look at the small apron display and its non-working (flashing) issue I was having. First of all I dislike to purchase new parts without trying to fix what I own. This issue just seemed to me to be a connection issue as the display would work, but tapping on the display/apron and/or flipping the flippers caused it to flash on/off. I did previously take it out and re-soldered the power connections without no change, so thought I would look at it one more time before calling JJP and ordering new parts. This time upon observation one of the small caps appeared to have missed being soldered completely in as you could see an open hole around its connection in the board. Re-flowed solder around all of these small caps, I think there are 3 or 4 of them. Reinstalled all parts and now the display works without any flashing issues. Problem solved!

Quoted from dts:

Testing MOSFETs is a bit more complicated but I'll give it a try. Continuous 12V to the motor even when I turn it off in settings, so it looks like a driver issue from the I/O board. Not sure it is even worth messing with as it seems like a lot of owners unplug the topper motor anyhow...but I'll probably ship it off to Barry anyhow.

David, If you don't want the topper you can diffidently send it to me, I'll get it fixed and add it to my LE!

You’re so talented, I bet you can build one yourself! Great to have the game back. This one goes in the permanent collection next to TZ!

Excellent! Third time's a charm.
