Some guy posted a thread one night that was quickly deleted with a a bunch of supposed inside info that it would be a "Flip Phone" themed game and went into quite a bit of detail about it. Hard to say if there is any truth to it, but it vanished fast.

It didn't interest me much, but was fun to watch that thread unfold.

    Quoted from trunchbull:

Apparently a title JJP applied to license was "Dialed In", and the game would have something to do with connecting to your phone, but IDK if that's true or not.

Yep, that's part of what he stated. Something about getting phone calls on the machine telling you where to shoot or what to shoot for.

    #19 7 years ago
    Quoted from Stones:

    Thats horseshit.

No, I saw it with my own eyes until Robin closed it, and then it vanished. Gone.
Whether any of it was true or not is yet to be determined.

    #21 7 years ago
    Quoted from cosmokramer:

    I saw it also...

It's the way that thread completely disappeared that's kept me wondering.

    #26 7 years ago
    Quoted from Stones:

..i meant its horse shit that the thread vanished.....

No doubt. There was a lot of detail that seemed like it would be hard to make up.

It ended almost like somebody pulled the fire alarm, woke Robin up, then the plug got pulled...

    #28 7 years ago
    Quoted from Stones:

Damn.....thats what i get for not being on pinside lately...

No it's from not living on the west coast. It was late into the evening out here so most of pinside was probably all asleep.

Rumor or not, it is very interesting how that thread went down. Somebody PMd me and asked if I had taken a screen shot before the initial post got deleted, but sorry I didn't.

    #30 7 years ago
    Quoted from Stones:

Gotcha.....who would have guessed you would needed a screenshot?

    Not me.
I think it's been almost a year now, but there may have even been a playfield sketch, but by now I can't really be sure.

    #32 7 years ago

    Classic!

    #36 7 years ago

I was wrong I guess, the post is gone but the thread still exists.

    Quoted from zucot:

The information from the post exists if you have halfway decent google-fu.

    Indeed.

    Quoted from stoptap:

I'm sure a Pat Lawlor pin can sell itself without the need for gimmicks.

So no more Rudy heads, shrunken heads, gumball machines, shaker motors, topper fans, or clocks?

    #44 7 years ago
    Quoted from Hazoff:

I hate my phone, I want to go back to smoke signals

    As you wish!

    Quoted from JeremyON:

"As you wish?" That bring to mind...

    Did you ever see "Wishmaster"?

    #52 7 years ago
    Quoted from Shapeshifter:

    as it did appear genuine.

Looking back, it could have very well been some of Kaneda's early work. However since the OPs account is still open and only had one other post, I think that nullifies that.

    Quoted from Circus_Animal:

A contract is a legally binding document, so yes, breaching the terms is illegal.

Those that read it on the internet have no legal binding contract. I'm tempted now that I've found it to post the link here. But something is holding me back..

If it was required that you have a cell phone to take calls on, then I wouldn't be able to play it.

    #114 7 years ago
    Quoted from trunchbull:

Did we have confirmation that it would be a disaster theme?

IMO most of the recent pinball themes are a disaster.

    #126 7 years ago
    Quoted from fatality83:

Heck everyone is tied to their phones at the hip

    Not every one.

    #128 7 years ago
    Quoted from beelzeboob:

No wonder you never pick up when I call.

Don't bother to text either. I've never owned a cell phone.

    #130 7 years ago
    Quoted from oohlou:

So I wouldn't be surprised if "Dialed in" is a feature which gets its name from the commonly used term here and by pinheads to mean the game is adjusted correctly. So what would that mean as a feature?

A little research can yield a lot more info than guessing sometimes..

    #132 7 years ago
    Quoted from oohlou:

Ah, but why then are people still taking about the theme of the game being phones when the trademark clearly says it is a feature?

Sometimes a feature has a lot to do with the theme.

    #135 7 years ago
    Quoted from Chitownpinball:

Man for being so proud of not owning a cell phone you sure are on your computer a lot.

I'm at work. It's what I'm paid to do.

    #137 7 years ago
    Quoted from LTG:

His computer is his only acknowledgement of this century.
    LTG : )

And it's quite amazing I ever figured out how to use one...

    #139 7 years ago
    Quoted from Chitownpinball:

Some would argue you are using a phone RIGHT NOW.

No sir! The phone is at the other end of the shop.

    #144 7 years ago
    Quoted from trunchbull:

What's the least effective of Lawlor's gimmicks?

Certainly not the shaker motor in Earthshaker.

    Quoted from PinballSTAR:

Name one other designer that's done a fraction of the above things... cue crickets chirping..

    Ted Zale.

    #155 7 years ago
    Quoted from PinballSTAR:

Wow O-din - I just looked him up - crazy

He was crazy. Truly an out of the box thinker that gave us modern multiball and quite a few other features we now take for granted. I read an article from the 60s where he wanted multi level playfields, ramps, and computer sounds, but Bally kind of put the brakes on that.

Another guy to look up is Harry Mabs. He thought it might be a good idea to add flippers to the game of pinball.

This phone thing could work if they did it in a Jerky Boys kind of way.

    Noone is stopping you.
