Look on the bright side guys, at least TS4 is a unique acronym. And you have like 10 hours to make peace with it being based on the movie everyone says sucks, then buy it anyway.

#2271 1 year ago

I see your Lethal Weapon 3, and I raise you.

#2274 1 year ago

I haven't seen the 4th film, but I have seen some Ducky & Bunny shorts which are legit hilarious, so it's cool to see them featured prominently on the cabinet & playfield. Didn't think there was any chance I'd want this game, but if it has great Key & Peele callouts, who knows!

#2283 1 year ago

So... Gofers 2.0? I mean that as a compliment, NGG possibly my favorite Lawlor game.

#2297 1 year ago

That score of 3,258,100 on the promo graphic is a step in the right direction.

#2301 1 year ago
Quoted from jeffgoldstein2:

Hopefully i’m missing something here.

Pop-up jump ramp into back right corner super jackpot hole, a la NGG.

Quoted from Thunderbird:

not sure who the market is for this machine???

Same people who bought WOZ & Wonka, don't overthink it.

Quoted from sepins:

It's hard for Me to get past the little girl running up to machine in teaser and a girl pop up on PF.

Don't worry manly man, you get to hit the pop-up girl in the face with your balls. No one's gonna confiscate your muscle car.

Quoted from sepins:

Not sure I want My friends coming to My house and saying that's a cool game You got for Your Grandkids!

If your masculinity is that fragile, you have bigger (or smaller) problems than Little Bo Peep.

Quoted from JohnTTwo:

Have the amount of CE's been verified? This will determine if I buy or not, 500 yes 1,000 no way.

Some of you guys inhabit a headspace I will never comprehend. Is something more fun if fewer people get to enjoy it?

#3149 1 year ago
Quoted from valgalder:

Look forward to not playing it since no operators really touch JJP in Chicago for whatever reason.. :/

Enterrium gets every JJP game. Granted, Schaumburg isn't a dream location if you live in the city proper.

#3152 1 year ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

Official JJP Employee insults potential customers who have valid critiques of a $15k product.

Not a good look, but to be fair, you've made it clear you are NOT a potential customer.

#3154 1 year ago
Quoted from cait001:

I am also not a fan of scoops in general, but ESPECIALLY not in the center of the PF.

This! Center of JJPGNR is just a short dead end. That's where the cool stuff should be.

Seems to be cake toppers

#3311 1 year ago
Quoted from Scandell:

But your theme integration score should reflect what this could of and should of been...not just "how well did this game encapsulate the single Toy Story 4 film".

Couldn't disagree more. Theme integration is, how well did you do with what you have. Not, what theme did fanboys imagine this would be based on rumors.

Quoted from Scandell:

The official title of the game is "Toy Story". Not "Toy Story 4".

Exactly backwards. It's called Toy Story 4 in all the official media.

#3319 1 year ago
Quoted from Hollywoodbone:

And I believe Pat included a neat feature that senses when you are going to shoot for the ramp when it comes up and increases even more power on that left flipper so that you make the ramp with ease.

That's actually a really clever workaround for janky flippers. Progress.

#3383 1 year ago

Finally watched the featurette. Programmers seldom do well on camera, but I gotta say, Joe Katz was great. His enthusiasm is contagious. Sounds like a guy who truly loves his job, not just marketing spiel.

I'm not a theme zealot, so all I see is a game that looks fun to shoot. Can't wait to play it. Really hope they ironed out the flipper strength.

#3390 1 year ago
Quoted from ronaldvg:

How do you guys feel about the fact that the CE has a lot more Annie Potts callouts than the LE (was being told in the featurette video)?

Rubs me the wrong way when a software feature that could be included in all models is purposely held out of the cheaper model, especially when "cheap" in this case is 12 freaking grand. It's actually more work for them NOT to include it; now they have to maintain separate callout code for each model.

Quoted from ronaldvg:

Also someone here in this thread said they deliberately programmed flipper lag into the Tiki pinball game on the 10 inch screen.

I hope that was a joke. Virtual pinball is bad enough as-is.

#3413 1 year ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

No you don't - it's a simple flag/toggle idea. Simple conditional logic.

Yeah, you toggle the different callout code. It's work to write both flavors, and the toggle.

#3417 1 year ago

I'm saying it's more work. Seems like you agree. But in typical Flynn fashion, you found a way to disagreeably agree.

#3419 1 year ago
Quoted from mrSATURN2012:

My thoughts on the matter...

It's a text-based forum, type your opinions. I ain't watchin' that.

#3427 1 year ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

It's no additional burden to implement.

You don't think it's work to decide which callouts to implement in which version, which ones you can get away with omitting, which ones feel "extra," then updating two different sets of callouts when rules change, or changing your mind and realizing, "oh, we really need callout X in both versions," etc.?

Have you ever worked on any kind of creative project before?

#3441 1 year ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

The topic was a simple audio call omission difference between versions.

It's creative work. You assumed I was referring only to code when I said "work." I don't care if the code writes itself, you have to choreograph the game.

You know how in TAF the Seance mode rule is "shoot three ramps?" You know how it's way more fun than "shoot three ramps" because the music, callouts, display, and knocker all work together to make it feel cool? That's challenging, underappreciated work. Discount it all you like.

70 pages and still no coil count?!?

I hope this isn’t the beginning of the end for JJP

Yeah they only raked in 15 mil yesterday let's pray they hold on.

Zach said he flipped it and was fun

I wonder how many here have been around long enough to remember when Jersey Jack was a Stern distributor, and the running gag for every new game was "Jack played it, he likes it!"

#3760 1 year ago

Looks like Toy Story 6 to me. Oh wait it's a clock.

#3795 1 year ago
Quoted from galore2112:

They are catering to a demographic that is just above me, wealth wise.

All snark aside, this is what it boils down to for me. I can't stomach spending more than Stern premium money (no markup), and even then, it has to be a phenomenal game. I'm glad I already own most of the pins I love and have space for. Not sure I'll ever pay five figures for a toy, inflation be damned.

#3799 1 year ago

Just heard from a reliable source* that Stern will announce a Lightyear pin to coincide with the film's release, this Friday.

#4362 1 year ago

Just got home from playing it. Layout seems pretty cool, but is hampered by the trademark JJP feel. Slingshots that lightly flick, flabby pop bumpers, you know the drill. At this point you've either learned to accept it or will never like it. I'm squarely in the latter camp.

Right flipper is a wet noodle, just crawls around a very shallow, short left ramp. Left flipper is stronger, maybe even cranked up when the jump ramp is active, not sure. But it's weird having two vastly different strengths. My brain can't adjust back & forth. Found myself shooting late on every flaccid right flipper shot, and early on the jump ramp, hitting the left post most of the time. Gotta shoot pretty early on the upper flipper as well. Seems nigh-impossible to hit consecutive loops if you hit 'em clean for a fast feed.

Rear of the playfield feels like a total waste. Four pop bumpers in a cage where the ball is never in danger? Saucer you have to randomly fall into for a Buzz super jackpot? I had one in the pops for 30+ seconds with SJP lit, no luck. Unsatisfying.

And the elephant in the room, the iPad. Don't know what they were thinking. Biggest backbox display in pinball and they need a second one? Looks even bigger & more ridiculous in person. Just on a primal, kinetic satisfaction level, I like seeing the ball go around the ramps. This thing covers up half of them.

As jeffgoldstein2 said a couple hours ago, the jump flap is sitting too high and getting beat up. I had an airball off it that actually completed the jump shot when the ramp was down. Spinning disc could also sit a bit more flush. Scoop kicks out along its right edge, made the feed squirrely a few times.

Anyway, probably sounds like I hate the game, but it's fine, whatever. If you like JJPs this is one of the better ones. Unsurprisingly shoots like a cross between DI and Wonka.

#4364 1 year ago

Oh, forgot to mention, I had an airball land on the cross-playfield habitrail, got stuck on the ramp make switch. Nearly had to get the game up on two legs to dislodge it. Just in case JJP folks are reading this thread, first off, I commend you, secondly, might want to reduce the tension on the switch blade or use a less severe bend. No way to free that stucky without tilting.

#4366 1 year ago

Everything in pinball is just "something but it does something else." It's a ball in a box with solenoids. Innovation is overrated. I'll take a juicy spinner loop any day over a bluetooth app or whatever.

#4744 1 year ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

Ask any tournament player. Bally/Williams pins are not immune to flipper fade, especially with the caliber of players now that can play them for hours straight, one after another.

I believe you, but in all my years of playing a ton of WPC games, I never really noticed it. Have you done any measurements to compare WPC heat gain to those same mechs on a JJP?

#4746 1 year ago

Random observation from that under playfield photo, assuming standard Williams coil colors, they used blue (strongest) for the left flipper, and orange (second strongest) for the upper & lower right flippers. Makes sense.

Someone will have explain to me like I'm in kindergarten how Williams could run these at like 70 volts or whatever, with acceptable fade, yet in a JJP game the exact same coils have to be under-driven to avoid horrible heat fade. And they're dual-wound, which I thought was supposed to avoid the hold side ever getting hot, which is apparently still an issue for JJP.

I have a TOTAN with (factory?) blue flipper coils that, after I rebuilt them, felt like they could knock a hole in the back of the cabinet. And I've never noticed them fade enough to change how the shots feel.

Next up, let’s cheer the Stern LE that Elwin is doing, Jaws, 1,000 units for $15,000

DOES THE SHARK EAT THE BALL?!?

#4945 1 year ago
Quoted from roffels:

Can anyone demonstrate to me that the skill shot is physically possible?

Yeah, on Saturday night I hit it twice in two games.

When you plunge, look at the washer below the shooter rubber. See where it is on the shooter gauge. Find a way to hold/release the plunger that you can repeat. Stand in the same place every time so your viewing angle of the washer relative to the the gauge is consistent. Adjust the release point up or down as needed on future plunges.

You'll still need a little luck to drop it in that saucer, but the method above will get you close.

#4951 1 year ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

What's the difficulty level? WOF or Big Guns?

Been too long since I played WOF, but I'd say it's comparable to Big Guns.

Best comparison is trying to plunge up into the Gem switch on Tron. Very similar plunge strength & drop-off angle.

It's a hands-on review, with detailed & specific praise/criticism, the thing everyone claims to want. Read it. Or just wait & play your game, whichever.

#4963 1 year ago
Quoted from delt31:

anyone that gives you their impressions and doesn't talk about cost to value is [...]

In my case, I didn't talk about it because 1. the coil counters already beat that topic to death, and 2. there's zero chance I'm buying a $12-15k game, so my review was strictly from the vantage point of a guy dropping a couple bucks on location.

Anyway, I agree with the VAST majority of your review, pretty much dead-on, except for one thing... I like the Woody spinner sound.

#5065 1 year ago

Powdercoating is only perceived value. It's actually cheaper than stainless hardware. Might save a couple bucks going from a two-stage color to simple black wrinkle, but that's about it. Data East didn't switch from stainless to black hardware in 1989 because it was an upgrade.

#5256 1 year ago
Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:

it came with a wrench for assembly! It doesn't fit the leg bolts!

Interesting. Even if it fit perfectly, I can't imagine removing AND reinstalling eight bolts with a can opener. For the price they could include a socket wrench.

Strange but true. When casuals play our games, I see stuck balls in places I've managed to avoid in thousands of plays.

There's a setting for Tiki to make it one-drain-and-done.

Not sure if it was a joke.

The survey is a nice gesture and all, but they already have access to a mountain of feedback here. I don't think it's any mystery at this point what bothers people about TS4. It's like, if you still need a survey to know what your customers think after this thread, yikes.
