Quoted from snaroff:

No I don't work @ Stern...they couldn't afford me I worked @ NeXT/Apple for 20 years, developing a little language that enabled people to right apps more efficiently.
I've been collecting/restoring/playing pinball for a very long time. This was my dream theme and they f-ed it up. While I can afford anything I want, I don't buy art/pinball/car/whatever that doesn't inspire me. JJP's engineering team isn't firing on all cylinders...sorry if that upsets you! And if they are listening, play better! (as the great SR loves to say when I play AC/DC
Lastly, if you think my "taking a side" might contribute to them going out of business, you might want to consider meditation or therapy. I'm far from an influencer in this space!

It’s a good thing that you help people right their apps.

Quoted from Haymaker:

lol wat.
Tim Allen has his own recording booth at his shop. They just sent him the lines and he sent the files back. Who TF is flying celebrities out to do call outs? If anything they'd go to him, like what they did back in the day. I doubt his fee was that high either

OK cool, but what does that have to do with Wonka (and toy story 4) sounding like a slot machine? They both do.

Wonka got a pretty big update recently, I agree that the bonus collection screen (end of the ball) sounds like (coins/slot machine cash out) but the rest doesn't sound like a slot machine to me. The current sound works really well with the game and there is a reason why they are all sold out.

One thing I do know is it doesn't sound like toy story 4 from the videos I've seen.

Quoted from snaroff:

Yes they did...and I sold mine my TRON LE last year for 21k. People pay up for it because there are only ~275 in the US. Also no "Premium" back then. I'm really not a huge fan of the license, but I LOVE the game...have a wildly modded Pro (mostly done by delt31) that actually looks nicer than most LE's. If I didn't have the modded TRON Pro, I wouldn't have let the LE go.

That Tron from Delt31 could have been mine at one time (small world). I also had another Tron pro less modded but it played better to me. But I sold it before the price spike. I miss Tron, I have games that are probably better overall but something about Tron is just magic.

Quoted from McDoom:

Wonka’s a really good game. When people come over to my house they almost immediately go to Wonka or at least play it a few times before they leave. It's more than likely my family's favorite as well.
I've heard people say plenty of times it's the best JJP machine out there and I have to agree it might be, I've played them all.
The theme integration is there with the modes, art, good use of the license, etc, etc. The toys are pretty cool too, and the sound is better than decent, with plenty of movie call-outs, etc.
I'm shortly arriving at the point where I'm going to have to make some room if I want additional games. I've considered Wonka as one of the games to let go but every time right after I play it I always say, I'm keeping this game which I more than likely will.
With that being said, TS4 isn't Wonka at all.
IMO, TS4 appears to be a watered-down Wonka clone mixed with no good golfers, with an Amazon fire tablet slapped on the upper playfield. (No thank you).
I would never pay 15k for TS4 or 12 or even 9k. It honestly doesn't do anything for me. (I haven't played it and I'm not too interested at this point).
While I'm at it, I'm done placing non-refundable deposits down on these expensive toys. I've rolled the dice enough!!
For me to invest this type of money into your products in the future, it better be worth it!! This Sir is not.

"You get NOTHING good day sir"

So funny do your friends just laugh when they get that call out? Nothing comes close to making one talk to a pin as that one!

#4109 1 year ago

Whelp folks I'm in with my CE. I know, but I have 2 girls (8,6) that actually liked TS4. I only have Met and SW at home and while they like playing those it does not last long.

I get the angle for TS4 was for non-pinheads. I'm an average player and wonder if I can finally beat a game. This one could be it.

We shall see. I hope the rules give the game justice spite lack of Mechs.

Personally, I can see games in the future being similar to this as time spent Development, production will be MUCH lower than before. Hence, JJP could produce 2 games a year using this model.

However, I do hope they change the price. Ouch, luckily I can fund this, but not moving forward.

Someone described the sound in this game, Wizard of Oz and Wonka as being like walking through a casino. I've been trying to explain this since Wonka came out and that is the most amazing description! So true, the sound in these games is ear-bleeding bad. It's basically an overload of things playing at the same time with no coherency at all.

Oh well this game never was for me anyway especially now because it's Toy Story 4 instead of the OG; which is the only one I've seen or ever will see. And do I really want a game where there's a bash toy that's a cute little girl's face? Maybe her character is evil in the movie or something that I'm not aware of? Even still, its just wrong to do and I can't see how Disney let this one by.

Great Distributor!

#4112 1 year ago

I think it looks lovely and i do think you will get the toy story feel, thru call outs and such, but....
Here in sweden you will end up paying 17k usd to get a le toy story in your game room.

For the same money you will get two really good computers with racing wheels (for head to head racing) and that stuff + an air hockey table + a two player multicade with 7000games + a 70 inch flat screen tv + an older game suchs as wcs in good condition.

Thats alot of decent entertainment.

Now I think about it, I think the 3 mins may not be enough time to actually check out on a website with your purchase, but sold out under 15 mins I believe.

And selling 1250/5000 LE’s on day one is a big achievement for JJP. And that with Mirco playfields!!! From this we can learn that the complaints on Pinside are not representative for the majority if their buyers. By that I mean, many people said tg

Quoted from Thunderbird:

Thanks for trying, but those are not actual sales facts and figures, with provable receipt numbers being shown, which is what I asked to see. Words are quite freely and cheaply spoken. Please show the receipts. Also, deposits represent a sector that can easily change their minds. Just ask UM/HWN buyers about that one. Until we can see actual proof, it is still smoke and mirrors, but thanks for the link. This kind of “no actual proof” happens in businesses attempting puffing all the time. Just ask anyone in the real estate or insurance business if this happens. It happens to quell the descent from any companies offerings. Jack employed a good strategy, now whether this is actually true or not, only he knows, as he’s given no real proof, just words. Anyone can make up figures and many in business do that all the time. We have no way to verify, nor will JJP offer actual proof.

Ok fair enough they can say anything, but a quick call to distributor here will quickly give you the answer: ‘longgg time sold out’. There were long lists with buyers a long time before the actual release, so all the available games they could sell twice, maybe more. If you want one now you are at the bottom of the list.

So CE’s sold out all 1000 I believe.

The LE is a different story, that one will not sell out really fast I think.

#4117 1 year ago

I hope the pinsider begging to have someone find him a CE at MSRP was able to buy that pin. I gotta feeling more CE's will be hitting the market place coming up.

So can we officially say Jack (customers fault) was not accurate in his claim all the machines were sold yesterday?

Quoted from turbo2nr:

Paying Tim Allen for the voice work is what made this expensive.
I bet they paid over $100k to fly him out for that.
Could have been $9k for an LE if they didn't pay for this.

It's highly unlikely they flew Tim out for a recording session for several reasons including unnecessary cost. Typically what happens is the studio/JJP in this case will set up a session at a local recording studio (to talent) and fly a director to meet the talent at that location where talent is comfortable working. The director come out to be in the studio and interact with the talent while producers will be on the line remotely to provide feedback to talent.

That is traditionally how it's done. That all said, with COVID things have largely changed and any producers, writers, directors, etc. will all just join a zoom conference routed into the booth with only the voice talent and mix engineer on site.

Now how much Tim's rate was for that and how it may have affected total price, that's another question.

all they do is just keep putting bigger displays on the playfield

Tiny screens added for the witch's crystal ball in WoZ and the TV set in Batman '66 are clever, they add atmosphere to the game, but if you're wanting me to play a video game, or show me redundant game play information, I don't need you to toss an iPad onto the playfield, the 27" screen on the backbox will do just fine.

I don’t like the wonka sound at all, I don’t have any other jjp’s to compare with but I turn wonka down. It’s more sound quality for me, hurts my head. I’ve thought about the pinwoofer upgrade but for now I just plug a Bose revolve into the front jack when I want to hear it and it sounds 100x better.

I hate the sound in casinos but I love the music and sounds in JJP Wonka. They represent the movie and theme perfectly.

I initially passed on BOTH Wonka and POTC due to all the pinside whining and negativity. Fortunately, I bought them months later after getting a chance to play them. They are bolted down.

This post-launch bitching and whining is entirely predictable at this point.
Fooled me twice but based on the JJP quality I see in gameplay videos, I'm all-in on Toy Story.

FYI - I got an email from Jason at Classic Gamerooms (GREAT distributor, sold me my Wonka) and they are sold out of CEs (LEs available). I agree with everyone that is questioning the value at the $15K price, but apparently the market is speaking a different story than I would have expected. For folks buying the game: more power to you ... if you and your loved ones will enjoy it and can afford it, good for you!

Kaneda brought up a good point today "Nothing that divisive is good" and that's what is sadly happening here with Toy Story 4. This is the opposite to the reaction that Godzilla and Guns N Roses received for example.

Two things are causing this divisiveness, the choice to call the game Toy Story 4 along with restricting assets to just the 4th film and a lack of mechanical features as well as molds on a $12k - $15k pinball machine.

Same comments were made for GNR. "It's missing 'Crazy' song. It's new concert concert footage instead of late 80's. It's a stripped standard width game but still costs same as POTC CE."

It's the same whining... and that was BEFORE the hobby went stupid.

Way I look at it is they are selling an SE at an increased LE price, charge another 3k for a topper and some bling. Add the fact that it's based off of the least popular movie of an iconic brand, dumb down the code for less experienced players and not putting any innovation in the game. We'll see if the flippers and distributors who marked the price up will make out this time or will the reality set in once the FOMO wears off that this is not the JJP that stunned the pinball community with WOZ.

Sorry. He's a f**king idiot.

What, no game has launched with divisiveness and turned out to be a gem?

Please.

A great pinball experience doesn't need all of the crap he bitches about. If you want toys - go buy Toy Story toys and set up a play land in your living room. If you want to experience the story, chapter by chapter - go watch the movie!

No CEs have sold yet. Only the deposits. Payment won't be due until September at the absolute earliest. Plenty of time for flippers to flip without having to pay in full, to back out, or to transfer their deposits to a different game. We have no idea how many of those at dealers have even received deposits yet, and how many of those people intend on playing the game rather than put it in a storage locker and sell it later. To suggest otherwise is incorrect or dishonest.
