Historically when has JJP announced standalone topper? I know they don’t have all the features of the CE, but seems to be something they do (which I like and wish CGC would do).
Quoted from JohnTTwo:I had three distributors call me today to see if I wanted a CE.
I understand the hype train but something smells funny on this release.
What distros?
Quoted from jandrea95:It should bother you as its fucking horse shit. They really couldn't differentiate the differences in the 2 games so they felt compelled to withhold some fucking audio clips that were already bought and pay for?
Not sure why I am surprised coming from a company who changed their warranty mid production.
This isn't new. Wonka CE also had special callouts. Cope.

You sound angry?
Really thought there would be more mechs on this game. Seems like the giant screen on the playfield took all the money. I would take mechs over extra screens anyday.
Quoted from Rarehero:Did you watch the JJP Gameplay video? That drove me from “not buying” to “never wanting to even play it”. The sound FX are horrid and extremely annoying. The bell ringing spinner sound will make people smash this game. They’ve learned nothing about sound design since WOZ’s shitty DING DING DINGs. High pitched bells are ANNOYING.
My wife hated them way before I did, but reading posts like this make me realize how little I like JJP sound effects in general. Doesn't mean I am right necessarily, but I can certainly see why folks don't care for it.
Quoted from Hollywoodbone:And it will…………….when we review it!!!!!!! That haven’t happened yet!
Thought this game was revealed 7 hours ago. What’s the holdup?
Quoted from flynnibus:If your point was TS isn't going to earn - that's your opinion and speculation you are free to.
But your post was that the game cost was the issue itself - and that alone isn't what moves the needle. COIN DROP drives behavior - not equipment up-front costs. Something hobbyists struggle to grasp.
Initial Costs are largely offset by residual value. A category that JJP games in particular have done very well in.
Know what kills a game more than initial costs? Parts and downtime - because THEY LIMIT COIN DROP and drive up costs that will never be recovered in resale.
All I'm saying is 2 equally attractive games will pull in similar money but if you can say buy 2 Godzillas for 1 Toy Story your return on investment could be double.
It's about effective use of capital and I would argue that $12000 pins aren't the most effective use of capital unless they are getting played substantially more.
Down time I totally get!!
Quoted from JayLar:Really thought there would be more mechs on this game. Seems like the giant screen on the playfield took all the money. I would take mechs over extra screens anyday.
That big screen is meant as a distraction so that you don't see the missing playfield mechs...
I miss the old JJP.
Quoted from zaphX:Glad to see the SDTM video turned some people around on the game. It made me considerably more excited.
Without question it was well done. It’s sad to read so much hate. People I’m sure worked really hard on this game and poured their hearts into it to make it special while a bunch of folks who haven’t played it bash it. This game is expensive, but being decent doesn’t cost a thing.
Quoted from zaphX:This isn't new. Wonka CE also had special callouts. Cope.
Didn't know they were so lazy in creating contrast on that game as well, my bad.
Quoted from JohnTTwo:I had three distributors call me today to see if I wanted a CE.
I got a similar call. I’m 100% positive I would not have gotten one if the demand was everyone thought it was going to be yesterday as I haven’t talked to this distributor in over two years.

I don’t think it’s decent to only release information after they sold out of 15k CEs with non refundable deposits. That trend in pinball needs to stop.
This CE outside of maybe DI. Literally has the least amount of features. Its close with Wonka But Wonka has the Super Physical Ball lock mech. This has zero gameplay changes.
Quoted from dnaman:POTC's audio is amazing. Need David back in a seriously bad way.
These pins are not and should never be consider on the same level as casino gambling games, yet here we are.
Totally agree

LE and CE wonka both have super lock

All by design for bottom line.
Quoted from jandrea95:My wife hated them way before I did, but reading posts like this make me realize how little I like JJP sound effects in general. Doesn't mean I am right necessarily, but I can certainly see why folks don't care for it.
The sound design on GnR during normal gameplay, not song modes, was a total mood killer for me.
The Joe Kat’s gameplay video was both good and bad. Good in it shows the features and objectives. However, bad because watching TS4 gameplay is impossible to follow without narration. Fortunately, his narration was spot on and very helpful. JJP pins are a little bit complex and at any given time, 25-50% of the lights are going off. Shoot the flashing lights
is no longer sage advice. The video shows game play but I couldn’t get any feel. Will have to play this game before forming an opinion. I was hoping it had a big main toy, maybe, exactly like a crane, but that didn’t make the cut.

I thought the sound package was great, but I like Wonka's too. Subjective response.

I was really disappointed in wonka's sounds but I've gotten used to it... But that's not to say it's necessarily good.

My wife won’t shut up about how bad Wonka sounds ha!
First, Hollywoodbone awesome production on that video! Besides great quality video of the machine, the interviews and editing was top notch.
On the pin itself, the rule set and video assets sound incredible. The playfield, however, is entirely underwhelming. It seemed like a stripped down No Good Gophers. You get a ramp with a less interesting target, and one pop up bash toy instead of two.
This isn’t the world under glass and innovative design that earns the JJP premium.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who threw themselves into it. That animation looks amazing, but it also looks like a slot machine.
The truth is: The pinball makers know people want mechs. Pure and simple. What are they not making? Mechs. Should they get a hall pass for not making what they KNOW people want? Nope. They need to be beat over the head with it until they listen. Sadly, people will buy anything and there's no reason for them to listen to anyone at this point. Even sadder, they probably think they hit it out of the park since they sold out in 1 min.
Next time they'll be sure to have even more and larger screens since that's what players really want
Now we need someone else to come along and be the JJP replacement for what JJP used to be.
Quoted from jfh:I got a similar call. I’m 100% positive I would not have gotten one if the demand was everyone thought it was going to be yesterday as I haven’t talked to this distributor in over two years.
I’m feeling sad nobody called me

Oh god, we've gone from "sounds like a slot machine" BS to "looks like a slot machine" BS?
Do better, Pinside.
Anyone who bought from JJP.....did your card get charged? I have the confirmation email and the order shows up in my account but nothing on my credit card yet.

Couldn't have said it better.
Quoted from greeneye:If you pay for a opportunity to buy a CE from a flipper seek help
Why do you care?
Quoted from zaphX:I thought the sound package was great, but I like Wonka's too. Subjective response.
Derek has no ears CONFIRMED
See if JJP can keep the streak alive.
To date any game where people go nuts over the art and theme on release hasn't been a great game.
The ones everyone has bitched and moaned about day one have been (DI and Wonka)

This is a $15k product. We’re allowed to share our opinions, and those who worked on it shouldn’t take it personally. They did their jobs & got paid. They’re not entitled to positive feedback or reviews. Artists must always deal with the visceral reaction from their audience. Either accept it or ignore it. It’s not “hate”
Quoted from JayLar:Really thought there would be more mechs on this game. Seems like the giant screen on the playfield took all the money. I would take mechs over extra screens anyday.
No, the point of the giant screen is that its cheap. it's not an ipad... probably paying $20 a unit or so off alibaba. A toy would be more expensive and be much more subjective to supply chain issues.

More if it's 1080p and IPS. A TFT 720p would be in that range. IPS 1080p is more.
Quoted from JayLar:Really thought there would be more mechs on this game. Seems like the giant screen on the playfield took all the money. I would take mechs over extra screens anyday.
If "all the money" was the $35-40 bucks an IPS 1080p panel with LVDS interface costs in quantity, there's a problem.
I realize everyone is hating on this release right now; that’s mostly understandable. There’s at least one element that looks innovative. The jump ramp is a very nice implementation. The slam ramp on NGG was a fun feature, but looked pretty clumsy, coming down onto the PF. The combination of hidden ramp and benson posts on TS4 is nicely done, IMHO. Great feature, and clean. Now, back to your regularly scheduled whining…

No excuses. They are professionals, and should understand that when you are charging 12k for a pin, pinball buyers expect more, not less than last time.
It’s a business, we are the customers, they need to listen to these criticisms and make better on the next go round.
I bet it's probably a pretty fun game though. Sorry it didn't have your favorite cartoon characters in it
Quoted from metallik:The question was, is it more work?
The answer is yes.
The amount of additional work was not a topic, but you're so damned insistent on never admitting you're wrong you just can't accept that, so here comes the paragraphs of BS.
Yup, typical.
Did you log your timesheet with that post? I mean… its work following me around all the time…
Make up nonsensical shit - people will call it out.
Quoted from dnaman:POTC's audio is amazing. Need David back in a seriously bad way.

For sure. Once you know the sound designers for this were mobile game and low-budget video game guys, it explains why the sound design is so unpleasantly in-your-face. If they haven't done it already, I agree that JJP needs David Thiel back in a major way.
Quoted from indypinhead:Totally agree
The guy they hired for sound was from Bally or IT slot machines, correct?

Wasn’t David working at Deeproot?
Maybe he can come back to JJP!
Quoted from romulusx:Wasn’t David working at Deeproot?
Maybe he can come back to JJP!
Yeah, that's what I meant. I *hope* JJP snagged him when the Deeproot thing imploded and he was free again. Dunno if that happened.
