I don't think I'll give Kaneda my TWIP'Y vote this year , as I don't like how he puts stuff behind a paywall .

Which is a darker and heavier theme: Godfather or Lord of the Rings?

I’m gonna say Lord of the Rings.

Although Godfather has little to no comedic relief so it comes off as a more intimate depiction of real world violence while Lord is make believe. Point is both can be bad ass pinball themes.

Quoted from screaminr:

The Blues Brothers is my grail pin , but don't think there's enough support behind it , for it to be made .
For me a more realistic theme is Big Trouble In Little China . It's got everything you could want , Monsters , fantasy , humour , action , sexy girls and jjp could do such a good job with it .

Blues Brothers would be one of the best themes ever. Unfortunately it would be a licensing NIGHTMARE.

I like JJP because they keep reinventing pinball. I could see Godfather as an opportunity, it’s a story about making tough decisions - every pinhead has but one destiny…

#55 2 years ago

Could it be that JJP have taken on Kingpin?

LOTR is a quest with lots of action oriented or intense set pieces. That all makes for great modes. Godfather is a slow dialog driven drama. Not sure how you make that into a game. But hey, they turn any theme into slot machines these days - and JJP games are very slot machiney - so, we’ll see.

I smell flop. This will come out when pinball FOMO dies down a bit, supply issues clear up, Stern will still have all the desirable themes. This will land with a thud in 2023, IMO.

#57 2 years ago

I guess JJP doesn't want any of my money. Also, fuck their shitty ass playfields.

#58 2 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

Scarface and goodfellas probably would be better gangster themes, but I’d guess the artwork and depth/breadth of rule set would be tough to work with, just not a whole lot of material to fit a pinball machine. The drug aspect of those movies may not be so appealing, however.
The matrix is the holy grail, it’s a gold mine for any manufacturer that can get it. So much material to work with, sounds, rules, art, light show, etc. The license might be tough to get and expensive, but people would pay for the theme, I know I would. Really wish/hope it would be jjp, only they can do it justice.

Personally I’d go with The Untouchables for a Gangster Movie Theme as my top pick. But The Godfathers are masterpieces and if done well I do think it could be incredible.

Well I just got a personalized electronic Christmas card from JJP. Made my Christmas time even better.
Thanks JJP

I love the mobster genre, I love my Sopranos table, and I want more adult themes in pinball.

I cant afford a NiB JJP machine, but I cant wait to see this on location somewhere.

Godfather and Pulp Fiction... never would have bet on those ever happening

#61 2 years ago

Someone's obviously mad he didn't get to reveal the game first.

I think Kaneda is going to reveal Eric Munier's new game is the Godfather .
What are your thoughts ?

Let’s start by listing the actors whom presumably will need to have a name and likeness use license: Brando, De Niro, Pacino, Caan, Cazale, Vigota, Castellano, Montana (Luca), Keaton, Garcia.

Of course both Puzo and Coppola will need to be made $$ happy.

Yes some of them are dead, but my guess is that there estates will still care.

Seems like a tough sell.

#65 2 years ago

I like Forest Gump , The Revenant, The Departed , Argo and I wouldn’t necessarily want a pinball game after any of those but I owned the double CDl soundtrack of Forest Gump. I think with the right mix of music, film clips and theme implementation any great film could be a great pinball. Personally I’d think of a lot easier of films to translate into a game. I’d probably start with the top 50 box office grossing films like Stern does instead of the Academy’s best picture list from 50 years ago.

#66 2 years ago

but aren’t we glad that JJP doesn’t do “like Stern does?

#67 2 years ago

Another horrible theme from JJP! Who this #@$& do these people at JJP think they are selling games to???? Simply clueless!

#68 2 years ago
Quoted from Drac:

Sounds like a great adult theme for pinball. Much better than the kiddie stuff they usually work with.

Guns N Roses? I think this is a red herring to distract us from The Matrix Resurrection.

I guess if the JJP marketing department has identified you as their target customer, they have screwed up!

Kaneda dedicated a whole podcast to me .
If he was smart , he would have put it behind his paywall

Hope not true. Been enough outdated themes. Wonka theme was bad enough

I believe they call it classic not outdated!

Good job Paul Revere!

Are you mad at the world?
Should all information be out there on blast? Should people (podcasters or manufacture) who work not receive compensation or respect for their efforts?

I don’t understand the hate for the “pay wall” it seems the anger only comes from those who expect something for nothing or they are entitled to others efforts.

Heck, he was looking real old in Falling Down!

Yeah he's a classic "never looked young" guy.
But he's got his "Slingblade" look for real now.

I'm kind of surprised at the negativity towards the Godfather theme. It's the quintessential mob franchise. One of the greatest films of all-time. It's been developed into video games, board games, etc etc.

It's not an action movie, but there's a game to be built around the theme. Select your family (Corleone, Barzini, Tattaglia, Cueno, Stacci), then base the game on the 5 families battling for turf & control of NYC. Running rackets, bootlegging, gambling, drugs , etc. Make moves & hits against the other families to gain power & control. Recruit family members & build your criminal empire. Consolidate your power by bribing cops, politicians & judges. Be the last Don standing in NYC.

There's a lot of content here to build a great pinball game with. You don't need movie clips of expensive actors either, and JJP has a track record (on POTC & WONKA) for doing it this way. Most people enjoy a good mafia movie, so I think the theme is a winner. This is probably a fond theme for Jack too, growing up in Jersey.

JJP's pricing/quality issues & long development times though? That's a whole other can of worms. But this is the first theme in the history of JJP that I would actually be interested in if it was done right.

#77 2 years ago

The theme is definitely in that pin buying demographic age group, but I just don't see it being a very good jumping off point for a pinball adventure. Not a lot of action scenes to replicate and doesn't have the dark humor of The Sopranos

Is a major mode going to be closing doors on Michael's wife?

What toys are going to be on it? Some kind of horsehead reveal? Oranges? Maybe a can of olive oil?

Best of luck to the design team. Maybe they're just going to slap it onto a more generic mafia/crime game rule structure (where's that Kingpin game btw?). It kinda makes sense to approach it like The Sopranos game where you're a new member and work your way up the ranks. Or like someone else mentioned, start with controlling a small part of the city and slowly expand (EA made some Godfather games like this)

Give the guy a break...he's 90.

If a pin maker was to going to go mobster pinball, Goodfellas would be the best option. Plenty of good action sequences that could make for modes... "Get your shinebox", plenty of pistol whipping throughout, Tommy getting whacked, "How am I funny?", Henry getting followed by a helicopter. The list goes on.

#80 2 years ago

Not excited to hear about Godfather theme. JJP doing Bond would have done the trick, oh well. Bond pinball demands theme integration that only JJP can do. Would be nice for JJP to do one following Stern’s release. Plenty of room for 3 Bond pinball machines where we currently have one. .

Maybe it it is, but when his name was tied to this information, I don’t think he had much of a choice but to make it abundantly clear he did not leak that info.

He was likely to be at risk of loosing his source of information had he not cleared the air and defend his position.

You're right, GnR is the exception and a theme I love. I would prefer John Wick to The Matrix as well.

Great that there's enough games going around to suit all tastes!

Probably not a good time to tell but Wilford Brimley never looked young either. Hope that didn't trigger you any further snowflake

#86 2 years ago

I think the main takeaway is that Hagen looks, sounds, and most likely feels every inch of his 90+ years and the last thing he - or anybody else realty - would want him to do is record voice clips for a pinball machine. They couldn’t afford him anyway.

I can’t think of a single actor from that movie who would be a good candidate or in the budget for doing original speech for that movie. Is Johnny Fontaine still alive?

It would be a sound-alike fest with lots of dvd clips probably. Really does seem like a head-scratcher theme if true.

Game DEFINITELY needs a “McClusky’s Revenge” mode.

#87 2 years ago

Nothing quite says 'I don't care' like opening a thread and voting on the subject you apparently don't care about.

Brilliant

#88 2 years ago

Really enjoy The Godfather movies but as a pinball theme? I'm not seeing it. Why? It's too serious of a theme for pinball, there's very little comedy in any of the films. This isn't like Sopranos that is filled with comedy bits in just about every episode. Also, imagine seeing The Godfather as JJP's latest pin for a year or longer until another game is released, is a Godfather pin going to be able to hold JJP up for a year or more? Again I'm not seeing it but hope to be surprised.

Personally I would prefer a Goodfellas of Casino based pin over The Godfather, there's at least some comedy in those.

#90 2 years ago

I wish jjp, would go do new versions of some of the stuff that stern is never going to vault.. go make a new tron, or LOTR… give me a good video game licensed game…. Godfather just does not do it for me. Doesn’t mean it’s bad… just not for me.

#91 2 years ago

Finally listened to this podcast.
Pretty hilarious this guy lecturing people about rumor etiquette.
Quite a character.

Blues Brothers would be great. Try to collect all the bands members, while not getting caught by the cops, Illinois nazis or the Good Ole Boys. Damn, now I'm all excited.

#93 2 years ago

FBI don't respect nothin match sequence.

Luca Brasi multiball, when the last one drains Luca sleeps with the fishes.

Kill the heads of the five families to get to the wizard mode.

Leave the gun take the cannoli to achieve the special.

For a really long game. "How did things ever get so far?"

A man who doesn't spend time with his pinball can't be a real man.

You come to my house…on the day my daughter is to be married…and you ask me to let you play a game.

It’s not personal Sonny. It’s strictly pinball.

Luna Mezz 'O Mare for the soundtrack.

LTG : )

#94 2 years ago

A modern day Sopranos pin by JJP with full assets would could be incredible and could be filled with a ton of content that is also funny. Would much rather see that versus The Godfather.

#95 2 years ago

I keep hearing manufacturers can't afford this or that. I really don't follow. We are living in modern pinball days. Manufacturers have never made the amount of money they are making right now. Manufacturers have been on record paying a million dollars for a license game in the past. "BEATLES" I would like to think every game after BEATLES was a bigger success for them then that license. Manufacturers now know if they charge high people will pay. We want great themes and complete assets. I believe we will start getting just that. These are huge companies that have near unlimited resources and a community that is chomping at the bit to buy. I say we will continue to see huge licenses with real actors from the license contributing.

I'm already checking in www.cameo.com for some actors to start doing voice work on future games. Lol

I think he got his panties in a wad and left the podcasting world again
I really do/did enjoy his show and liked most of his content, but the 30 min rant against the OP was just really odd.
If he felt it was really needed, a 2 min statement to clarify that it was not his leak would of sufficed.

Where do you get this from? Hobbit? With a terrible uninspired playfield? Wonka? A musical pin without any music? Pirates? A pin based on a movie with zero movie assets?

Not odd, that's simply the kind of person he is. Take away his schtick (revealing secrets) and there's not much left worth listening to.
