where is the option. Would like to buy both, but think the price is ridiculous and can't justify it. Could also have, would buy DI if priced less. Would buy POTC if priced less.

don't kid yourself. B/W diamond plate chips all over the place. Just let an insert shift so the ball hits it direct and chips off like crazy. only reason the shooter lanes didn't chip as bad, is because of the way the ball entry works on b/w vs stern systems. Stern is a much more violent ball entry, than B/w was.
Quoted from jwilson:Well, on the other hand experience collectors tend to have deep pockets so technically they're saving the hobby. Just that the games that appeal to them don't appeal as much to me, at least as a buyer.
I own a DI but I suspect it'll be many years before I buy another new game, and there's 50 years of games to choose from as well so I'm fine with that.
That is true. Guys who have been in this hobby for a long time, know what it takes to bring back beater games, and don't overpay to do it. We had to be frugal and resourceful as parts were hard to come by, and we where there when games were dirt cheap. Community was small. You couldn't get by with halfass knowledge on how your machines worked. You had to be able to do at least basic troubleshooting and maintenance. Many newbies just throw cash at problems without wanting to learn beyond that.
Quoted from dgoett:The playfields and printing are top notch. It's the crappy brittle clear he uses that is the problem.
A brand new hobbit out of the box had clear chipped away where the metal wire guides were put in the playfield. If you've ever installed one of his new playfields, you have to pre drill every screw hole or the clear lifts right off the artwork.
I've had MANY playfields cleared over the years - mostly by Playfield Renovations. NEVER had that kind of issue. Even HSA doesn't do that.
And don't even try and hammer in T nuts on a mirco like they do at stern. Have a TZ at work with cracks in the clear from hole to hole all over the playfield - completely unusable.
The below photo is a hobbit smaug that was on location about a year. Not over played because league doesn't like it. If I spend $9500 on a game it better damn sure not look like this over time.
that can't be a JJP game. Only stern has clearcoat durability issues. Say it isn't so. Now what are the NIB pinside buyers going to point fingers at, if they both have issues?
