Quoted from Merendino:

So randomly when the ball goes under the Pearl the VUK doesn't always seem to register to kick it up to the ship itself. When this happens nudging doesn't seem to help; I carefully lifted the front of the game and then it registers. Any advice?
Also, my lockbar and action button are giving me more hell than any other game. Those will be easy fixes I imagine.

What pitch is your game at? If it's steep then the ball could be getting caught on the transition from the subway to the VUK. The ball rolls away from the player from the hole into the VUK. If your pitch isn't steep, then this post and the response following it would be my next suggestion:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/jjpirates-of-the-caribbean-troubleshooting-tips-issues/page/39#post-5142208

Action button and lockdown bar are standard adjustments. If the lockdown bar isn't fitting well try adjusting the two screws on top. If the action button is sticking or not registering try adjusting the metal leaf switch under it so that the leaf switch stays directly under the bottom of the button and doesn't slip to the side of the button and cause it to stick or not register.

This is somewhat obvious, but have you checked to make sure that there's no cable partially obstructing the ball's movement? I seem to recall this occuring on my game at one point.

Buy a new button from JJP. Some of them are just c**p.

Just changed the battery in my JJP POTC. First time for that one - purchased NIB. Lasted six years.

I guess I am lucky.

Did you change it because it died? Or preventative?

If preventative, did you change it while the machine was on to keep all the settings? I may want to do this as well.

#19306 58 days ago

If is dies you've got problems. Problems that can be straightened out, but still you don't want that battery to die.

Preventative. I did the same thing for WOZ. I don't want to lose settings, high scores nor have to do that jump on the board to keep things going.

It is not terrible to do. On POTC, the only annoying part is getting the monitor released (I forgot that there are wood "stops" on the latches), then getting the four screws off the case without dropping them. I love magnetic sockets.

I followed their instructions both times with the masking tape on the battery to keep from dropping it.

You really need to do it with the power on. Doing it with the power off defeats the purpose of replacing the battery preventively.

My LE came with a factory JJP topper.
I’m not a topper guy. But I thought I may dress it up a bit, rather than take it off.
Anyone ever buy from this company?

Thanks!

My game came with this mod.
It makes a positive difference.
I have also purchased mods from this vendor. His silent spinner is good and the apron magnets for POTC are good too.

Yes - I purchased this mod as well as others from them. The flame mod is a nice effect and Pinballmods is a reputable mod maker/seller.

I am not the one to ask. I have installed Cliffy's in many older games to cover up blems (already worn areas) and they are a necessary evil. The chair hole in TAF is an example.

But they always seem to interfere with game play at least a little bit. When I put a new playfield in my TAF, I did not reinstall the Cliffy's.

I am the original owner of my POTC. The only issues that I notice are where the sling posts hit the clear - and I put the larger washers on and that seemed to take care of it.

Eventually, I might get some hole wear or something. Then I will cover it with a Cliffy.

But putting a Cliffy on a new game reminds me of when people put plastic covering on their new couch.

It is a pinball game, not a museum piece. It will never look new again. Get over it.

[Yes I expect to be in the minority on this topic. That is OK. ]

Yeah my newer game (GNR) had the CMOS battery fail before the one in my POTC did (replaced preventatively). Maybe JJP switched to cheaper batteries.

Everyone I know that has this game says it’s the last they’d sell. Is it really that great and worth $20k? I have opportunity to get a loaded CE for a good price but it’s soooo much money still.

When I was looking for my LE a few months ago, I contacted a ton of owners. Offering to trade my MMr and my AFMr SEs for a LE. All said no! Finally found one a guy didn’t have listed and he sold it to me!!

That made my decision easier to spend this kind of cash on a game. It must be worth it, nobody would sell it!

#19320 50 days ago

What's the going price for a nice LE right now?

#19321 50 days ago

I'd sell my LE. It has #1000 stenciled on the bottom of the playfield.

The game is great! If it wasn't, I would have sold it a long time ago given the price it now commands.

FWIW, I'd much rather have a customized LE than a CE. Never preferred Davy Jones on the playfield or barnacles on the rails. Gives me the creeps like a scaly sea bass.

Arrr!

What's "a good price" for a loaded CE. How much we talking?

I ended up with a NIB Pro, one of the last three in the US. I thought that was a lot of money at that time.

I have added a shaker to it and the open chest mod.

The others can chime in, but other than the Star Map and a few toys, I did not see a lot of differences and the game play is the same. So you maybe able to save money on picking up the Pro model.

While I have no immediate plans to sell it, I have burned out on it a bit. But I have 20 or so games (it changes) so I usually just rotate onto another one for a while.

#19326 49 days ago

Has anyone noticed any significant changes in the game play with the most recent approved (not beta) update.

Maybe I missed something that others know, or else I now have a switch matrix issue, but when I get a chapter running, it seems a lot easier to make the shot. Almost like I just have to get close and it gives me credit for making the shot.

It is tough to document while playing, but I noticed I had to make the left spinner in the Black Pearl, I didn't go through the spinner, but it gave me credit.
I may have to take off the playfield glass to see for certain and run it by hand.

Am I nuts or is that part of the new rules?

I don't have any errors on startup. And this seems to be new since upgrading to the newest software.

That is the attribute of James Norrington and it is not a new thing with the code. Also just so we don't confuse anyone, there is no Pro POTC. It's called the SE(standard edition). That's the same model that I have. I agree you're not missing too much compared to the LE/CE.

What character are you playing? If you are using Norrington, then you just need to hit targets around the character you need. If you are playing Cotton, then you don't need as many spins to to get the credit. Finally, are you using a preset difficulty? If it is set to easy, everything that needs to be done is much, much easier. More time, less gold needed for Tortuga, pieces of 8....just about everything

No RGB GI lighting on the SE either.

One of the locations I go to has precision flippers on PotC and it’s kept clean. I’ve played a game or 2 here and there at shows or peoples homes but now I’m damn hooked! I can’t get enough now that I understand the game. This is one of my top 3 movie series and if I was in pinball just a year earlier I would have 100% had one. Now I have to wait. Can’t swing the price anytime soon but I’m glad I have a spot to go play it. I really hope you all get made whole with this code. They should make a side game in it just for the wait.

Double thanks. Now I feel better. I don't have a Pro model!

Is anyone in need of a front decal for a LE? I bought an extra when I had my game because the decals always seem to be wrinkled about the shooter rod.

Asking $50 shipped

Please pm if you have any

Friendly reminder: If your coils aren't working it'd be a mighty fine idea to check your coin door switches to ensure they aren't broken, bent or disconnected.

In short: Don't be me!

Just used the headphone jack with good headphones for a game of POTC. I was blown away by the quality of the David Thiel sounds. For the first time, I noticed that when the starmap is blasting the ball around in chapter selection, the cannon fire sounds are timed with the magnet firing to throw the ball around. Next time I go to a convention, I am definitely bringing headphones. Do all JJP games have a headphone jack?

Unless you had an SE. At least some of those did not have a headphone jack at all. I had to add my after the fact (just by ordering one from JJP).

Has anyone tried the CE topper on a SE or LE? I have a CE topper and put it on my SE and while it shows the light the ship does not rock back and forth. I understand the code for the CE is different from the SE as I do get a greyed out selection for the speed of the ship. For the CE owners does the ship automatically rock back and forth or is there a certain mode you have to enter to get it to do that?
