I bought Scott’s ramp support but wanted to fit the ramp first. Looks like I may have gotten lucky. This is how much the threads stick out....Does it look pretty normal? If yes, We got a winner!

Quoted from Yelobird:

Ok looking at you last picture the issue is your ramp is not in the correct forward position. It needs to slide further forward. By eye look for the previous threaded holes and line it up correctly Then push it down.the butt end of the plastic ramp should fit in the milled pocket the provided. Really best to take lots of pictures Before you tear down your game.

Looks like that was the issue! It needed to go a bit forward. Thanks!

Thank you all! You guys rock!

Glad you got it figured out was just about to chime in, as yes that ramp is kinda finicky to get in right

Tell me about it! I must say that Koops’/Scott’s ramp support is just what the doctor ordered!

Quoted from KornFreak28:

Did I install the hex spacer correctly?[quoted image]

Yes, that tall Hex Spacer is spot on right. Make sure your Black Pearl is seated properly towards the back of the pin as well. This will also cause improper ramp wiggle room.
I would suggest "slightly" threading each screw and nut to where the ramp can wiggle a bit before tightening down anything. My threaded wood screws that hold the ramp in place at the bottom are also slightly off being straight up and down. Mine screw in at the tiniest angle- leaning towards the flippers.

Well decided to LED my POTC a bit. Used a separate power source then the main system due to GI lighting is 12V and choices are limited on individual LED bulbs and I already had 6V bulbs on hand. LED the Maelstrom ramp with some small blue light strips and individual bulbs around the whirlpool. Ramp whirlpool looks evenly lighted in real life then the pictures posted. LED The Depths kick out (color changing), Bayou (green), Tortuga hole (color changing) and bottom of Maelstrom whirlpool (purple, but hard to see). The Maelstrom ramp is a bit bright, but does look good under operation of all lighting, hard to see with individual pictures. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks! I'm just about done with it. I changed all the rubbers for Titans and did a whole bunch of fixes to it. Installed Cliffy protectors as well

So I had a personal POTC quest fulfilled yesterday. If you play liars dice enough times in one game you get the option to bet “Your soul”. Well I lost the first time and apparently if you lose your soul the game ends.....which may be appropriate however I wanted to know what happened if you won that bet. I posted here and nobody seemed to know. Would you get double your points....triple.....double points and double the remaining balls?!?! I HAD TO KNOW!!

So I get to the soul bet again .....and lose. And lose. And LOSE!! I start thinking it is not a winnable bet. But determination wins out eventually right? Well after at least a dozen games that ended prematurely with a lost bet......I finally won!! The dice game was crazy. By far the highest I had gone with a bid. Started low at bidding 2 threes. He went to 3 threes. Back and forth we go. I was not losing this time. I took the bid to 7 threes having never gone past or won anything past bidding 5 of a number. I figured this time I was going to go down swinging. Well he bids 8 threes.....I finally call “LIAR!!” Now if you want to discover for yourself what happens when you win the soul bet eject from this post here.

Seriously stop reading if you don’t want to know. Last spoiler alert .....okay .....

What you win is.......an extra ball? That’s it? THAT’S IT?!?! Yep for ending so many games with a loss a win got me an extra ball. So the moral of the story is don’t bet your soul. The payoff is not worth it!

Great intel....a little disappointing on the crappy award....I think an extra ball + big points would be more satisfying....maybe they'll change that in the code update

You're better than I am. I bet soul every time it came up and kept losing, too. Finally stopped caring.

But really, what prize could they give you that would be satisfying? On location, maybe a free game? But for home? Maybe a special "soul snatcher" mini-wizard mode?

#13413 4 years ago

A soul is a ball. If you are on your last ball and bet your soul and lose game over.

Edit^ Not to be confused with souls. Souls are amount of characters you have collected during chapters which directly relates to you score level for wizard modes. And yes if you bet say 75 souls and lose its like you have never collected any characters in any chapters. Makes it for a real disappointing wizard mode

When you bet YOUR soul (not souls): you lose your ball like you normally do, but also your character (have to pick a new one). If you win, you get an extra ball.

An extra ball is potentially worth a lot of points. Good value in my book

#13416 4 years ago

My game stops when you lose soul. No option for starting a new character or continuing. I have had 2-3 balls left and could go no further. Couldn’t even put on initials or take a pic. Now when I have bet extra ball and lose that ball drains and game continues. My game is either glitchy or something if the game should continue because after all those tries it most assuredly doesn’t. lol

Yep, I see the logic there and it makes sense. But since it seems to be a rare bet and difficult to win it still seems like there should be something a bit more exciting as a reward that's still potentially worth a lot of points. Maybe award the start of a multiball? Or even better maybe have it award the start of 666666 multiball?

It's a bug in the code that they've acknowledged needs to be fixed. You're only supposed to lose your ball and your character. It's not supposed to end the game.

I spent yesterday in California prepping a CE for shipping to my house in Texas. Through the generosity of fellow collector Reznnate i was able to get a full set of POTC CE packing materials and pallet. It should be well protected for the trip now.

The people I’ve met through this hobby are awesome.

How did you manage to get that thing in the box?

#13421 4 years ago

My action button sticks all the time - I’ve tried loosening the mount, tightening it, rotating it. Nothing seems to keep it working smoothly. Is this common or should I just make a warranty request for a new one.

Sticking on the lever on the switch blade ? If so a blob of hot glue on the end of the button will do it.

Just buy the Stern clear lockdown button from Pinball life. I believe it’s in the tech faq.

Quoted from KornFreak28:

Boxing it was easy, everything involving lifting was not. I forgot what a heavy SOB this game is.

We stood it on end and slid the box over the top. Slid the corner protectors (and leg holders) into the corners and taped up the top.
Then laid it down on the trucking-safe side and sealed up the bottom, and ratchet strapped the pallet to the bottom.

Most of the day was spent figuring out what to do next, dealing with lifting issues and getting it out of the room it was in.

I think that may be Mike's older website rather than the up to date one at Automated Services (pinballs.com). I actually bought his last Standard earlier this year. But maybe he received more...

Go to Tests - Switches - Single Switch, scroll the whole way down past the D ( Dedicated ) switches to that number. A little square lights up on the playfield on the screen that shows you where it is.

Then check in Tests - Switches - Matrixed.

It flashes on the middle of the pearl. I hit everything on top and did not see it register
Inner and outer are both green.

I'm having an issue with my upper left black pearl flipper getting stuck in the hold position and won't release. I rebuilt the flipper with new coil stop, plunger, coil sleeve, spring, etc. but that hasn't done anything. I'm thinking it's something electrical but don't know where to start the troubleshooting process on that. Coil gets really hot to the touch. The flipper will release when power is turned off or coin door is opened. Pictures are attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not knowing your skill level, you may need help.

Most likely you'll need to remove the I/O board in the head.

Youtube has lots of short videos on how to check things.

If you have a meter, and can use it. Each transistor has three legs. Start on one side. Measure between an outside leg and the middle leg, then the middle leg and the other outside leg. And compare readings to other transistors around it. The manual has a high power coil chart with transistor number on it.

Page C-154 in the manual. Transistor on the I/O board is Q336

Resistance on coil is:

7.3 | 155.4 on the left coil
7.2 | 159.4 on the right coil

Guess it's the transistor then, correct?

I've never tested a transistor before. Is it any more difficult than testing coil resistance?

Those flipper coils are dual wound. Which were you checking, the regular power windings or the hold power coil windings? If the short's in one or the other, it may not show up if it didn't burn through to the other winding in the coil.

But if both check out, then yeah, transistor time.

$20k and $22k have happened for NIB CEs recently, so this isn't that far off from that.

Jack will make more 18 months or so out once he gets GnR and maybe Toy Story out of the way. Too much premium-level money on the table for too good a pin.

I'd imagine they'd pump out a special edition asap and cash in on the price craze sooner than later. How long on Jack's line would it really take to make 100 or 200 more? They'd sell out immediately if announced.

#13445 4 years ago

Yep, they almost have to at this point with the prices these are going for. The business case wrote itself. If anyone wants one, get in touch with your jjp distributor. That is what Jack said to do to get another run to happen

I thought there was no way they wouldn't make more, but now I'm really skeptical. I don't think JJP has the cash flow or where with all to even make 100 more games. My guess is they need to pump out games that will start making them money, and allocating resources on Pirates doesn't help that goal.

There's a not-insignificant lead time on all the custom parts for the machine (most of which JJP is almost or completely out of), plus he's not going to interrupt a GnR run of 1000s for an jjPotC run of hundreds (though I think he could easily sell more than 1000, especially if he sends a couple to she pinball show tour route for a year to give people more hands-on opportunities.

I don't know what the timing is, but I'm still betting he makes more.

I would say it's the transistor as I just had this same issue happen to mine. It was the hold transistor for the coil and was shorted out. Bought new transistor from Great Plains Electronics. I bought 10 as they are very reasonably priced and you never know when you might need another one.

At $12,500 a pop I don't think cash flow is the problem. $2.5 million for 200 more of a special edition that will sell out pretty much immediately? Yeah I think the money speaks for itself. It took a while for the pin to catch on but I think it finally has. The pirates demand is guaranteed business. GnR they have to earn and sell for a lot less. I think most of us agree its coming, just when. If I were Jack, I'd be pushing them out before going full production on GnR.
