And where is the reason for the price rise from Ken Cromwell.

#103 3 years ago

Explained by Ken I meant.

Quoted from bluespin:

And if you have issues with a Stern NIB playfield, and you bought from a good distributor, Stern will ship you a fully populated playfield ready to install in the game. If you have issues with a JJP NIB playfield, you have to buy a playfield from JJP and do a playfield swap.

Are you serious?I've seen bad playfields from both companies and Stern has had and still does leave people high and dry!

#105 3 years ago

Maybe that was extreme, but waiting 6+ months to get a game isn't ideal. If they really sold 3000+ GNR's thats almost 50 weeks of production time (I hear they make 60 games/week)....

#106 3 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

This is not strictly true. I and a lot of others got replacement jjPotC playfields for free when the playfields in the new machines were pooling and chipping.

Populated? or blanks?

I get the secrecy when launching a game but what would be the harm in posting a weekly build schedual where a company can communicate what was on the line the prior week and going forward .Just to keep people up on theyre machines .

What's the harm in creating a bunch of busy work for yourself, which will be almost impossible to ensure is accurate, and pigeonholes you into something you may or may not be able to live up to? There's a million things that can happen which would affect your weekly "estimate." And why give the pinside mob more grist to bitch?

"Oh they are only making 30 games this week? WHY? WHY DO THEY HATE US?"

"They said they'd make 50 games this week, but they only made 39. WTF!!!!!?

"They said my game would get made this week, but it didn't. Who wants to join my class action!?!"

I know you are new to this but come on man. They'd have ZERO to gain and a shitload of annoying things to lose by doing what you suggest.

It's the same as when a rollercoaster breaks down they refuse to give you an estimate on how long it's going to take to get it running again, even if they have likely have an idea. Would just create more opportunities for bullshit they don't want to deal with.

When suggesting stuff like this, I really wish Pinsiders would at least ATTEMPT to put themselves in the shoes of manufacturers. Think about your own job; you probably have a boss or a client. Would you go out of your way to make more promises than you need to to these people? How would that improve your life?

Now that you’ve said that it make me think of people asking me “when’s our basement going to be done ?”...I say “when I’m fing done!” Lmao ...Give an inch right ?

I was a Kitchen & Bath contractor for 40+ years.I learned early on to under promise and over deliver. But to the point, once JJP gets firmly imbedded in their new digs they should be able to have some time schedule to inform customers

Blanks. Even Stern rarely does populated swaps in the era of chipping and pooling. They're all shooting blanks now.

This. There is a pinsider who fought for a year to get a populated pf from Stern for their ghostbusters le that started ghosting after 20 plays.

On the flipside, same pinsider had a WOZ and had to buy a discounted pf as theirs was at risk for the art coming off. Then with pirates due to the issues they bought a pf, then later had to ask for a discount when jjp offered it to those who hadn't bought one.

Knell. I think you were going for death knell.

Stern turns out 50-70 machines a day. Granted, they're barren wastelands compared to the kitchen sink approach of JJP, but it stands to reason that JJP will improve over time and get more machines finished daily. Not Stern numbers, but even 1/3 the Stern numbers would shave months off JJP's backlog and is likely achievable.

I remember the Stern problem as ghosting inserts and one or two populated playfields being sent out.
It was wrong of JJP to charge people for badly chipping artwork missing playfields.Hell the 30 year old Pinball Magic I sold you didn’t have these issues!!!

So no, gonna stay JJP isn't the greatest. I would say Spooky is a better pick. They remain a small manufacturer, but their games sell out. They seem to be smart about what they make. The titles that haven't been hits were ones contracted (Domino's and Jetsons). The ones they pick the themes have been excellent, and they are willing to use unlicensed themes.

Dung their games sell out or get close to selling out because they only make a limited number. They made what 200 or something of Americas Most Haunted to 500 for other games. Stern makes nearly that or more in ONE WEEK. JJP has sold over 3000 Guns N Roses that’s more for one title than every game American Pinball plus Spooky plus Deep Root plus Pinball Brothers plus Dutch COMBINED!!!!!!!!!

Comparing Spooky to JJP or Stern is not even a serious statement. I have never bought a Spooky game because honestly I don’t fancy the art, or the layouts. Spooky is a young company who seem to get better and better with each new titles... I give them a TON of credit because they’re clearly on the way up but comparing them to JJP well just get real here. LOL

Lastly as for picking themes we’ll disagree Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie they tour together and can’t sell but 7000 tickets. Guns N Roses sells out stadiums with 80,000 people across the WORLD. Rob Zombie or Alice Cooper have record sales within a FRACTION of 1% to Guns N’ Roses and that’s combined.

Rob Zombie last couple albums have sold maybe 100,000 copies his biggest selling sold 3 million lifetime he’s probably around 4 million. Alice Cooper had one album that sold 1 million most of the others are very very low. Guns N Roses has ONE album that sold over THIRTY MILLION!

Wizard of Oz by JJP has sold about 4000 copies and is still going strong. Again you totally lost me. I give them credit for Rick and Morty but you lost me otherwise.

Can't we all just get along? Geez, the threads lately remind me of the battle of left vs right on the cable networks. And I change the channel when any of that bullshit comes on.

Not sure where you’re getting your info but Rob Zombie has sold over 15 million albums, and that’s not including white zombie. Also made 2 cult classic movies and worked on Pee Wees playhouse, believe it or not. His net worth is around $50 million. GnR is more well known, but not nearly as much as your claiming.

Yeah comparing Zombie to GNR doesn’t make sense.
Zombie has maybe 50 songs and almost 30 were radio singles and about 40 are awesome pieces of music.

GNR has 80 Songs and like 5 of them are tolerable to listen to. And of the 5, 2 of those are covers.

On a side note wayyyyy back when this GNR thing was a rumor, Slash gave me the list of songs for the pin. Apparently the catalog is full of duds. 30 songs listed and no body was happy about it.

It’s all here:

Your point? Spooky makes money. Full stop. It doesn't matter if you make a million if you can't turn a profit. If memory serves jjp was tettering for awhile until they got new investors.

Jjp also doesn't stock parts for games they made. Certain pirates parts are unobtainable. Spooky will, and has in my case, remade parts at prices well below what jjp charges.

End of the day doesn't matter if it's 1 game or 10000. How good is the game. Jjp, good games, shitty themes and if you have issues due to their own problems you pay for them.

Step off the hype train please and come back to reality.

His response was three part:

1) Pyrotechnics
2) Scantily clad women
3) Giant monsters

My wife and I have seen him perform several times. And when I say perform, I mean perform because he puts on an absolutely amazing show.

Billion Dollar Babies and School's Out albums charted #1 and #2 in Billboard's Top Albums in an age where Led Zep and Black Sabbath were roaming the charts like T-Rex's and super famous/still played 50 years later classic rock was being pumped out like crazy and EVERY kid over the age of 8 wanted to be a Rock Star cuz there was nothing else better on the face of the Earth at the time.

Just sayin...there was a time when Alice Cooper was a huge deal.

That is a load of short sighted BS!!! Stern has made some great machines: SM, ST, , MET, LOTR, Tron, not to mention recent titles like JP and DP. When all the other pinball manufacturers were pulling out 20+ years ago, they kept producing and improving on pinball. PERIOD

Then JJP came along with some great innovations - they needed to get noticed and have. I have a GnR LE on order and LOVE my MET and want a JP. GnR seems to be a game changer. ...and what is beautiful about all this? COMPETITION!!!!

Love what JJP and spooky and American, etc are all doing. They are forcing Stern and each other to get better and those of us who love pinball will benefit. This fanboi stuff is immature and stupid. In the future Id like to own a couple of pinball machines from each of the best manufacturer who survive this new era of pinball competition.
