Quoted from John_I:

JJP was number 2 when GNR came out and sold well, now Godfather is miles behind Scooby in sales which means they are a distant number 4 now. A few years makes a big difference with all this new competition. This outrageous price, lacking software, no mechs, Mirco playfield business model is not going to work now that the covid log jam is over and the market is flooded with cheaper better games. Anything but full license Harry Potter is not going to sell much. Maybe better than GF, but that is not saying much. Full license HP would probably sell a lot even at this price structure and very few mechs or software updates.

I hear ya about JJP software support, code support as of late has been terrible. 600+ days since the last public GNR code update. There's mechs in JJP games, just less compared to years past which is disappointing. Hell I'll argue that Toy Story has more interesting mechs in it then Godfather with it's rotating figurine and not much else.

JJP lost me as customer until they can fix their code support situation. Just got a NIB Godzilla Premium, that money could have went to Godfather but no way with how code updates have come to a crawl and 0 communication about them.

JJP games just feel terrible. I hate the way their flippers feel and how clunky the games are. Alien LV has been the best pin i have ever played for theme intergration, rules, and shot feels etc. It has some very rewarding shots and challenges. I really look forward to seeing what pinball brothers will do in the future. I know they will continue to improve their hardware quality. A lot of other pinball companies impress me but JJP is really disappointing. I feel the only good game they made was The Hobbit.

If you haven't tried Godfather, give it a chance. They made some kind of electronics change that improved the flippers greatly. I agree they had the worst-feeling flippers in pinball on every game before Godfather.

Agree about new feeling on GF flippers.

Wonka is a great smooth game (far from a clunker)and GnR,WOZ,Hobbit have the best integration of any games I’ve played.I mean shit Slash actually helped design GnR!And the whole flipper thing is a little blown out of proportion.Set game up right and they shoot fine actually they shoot like my B/W

100% - JJP originally announced they planned on using B/W hardware, so it makes absolute sense why they do.
And a side note, I wouldn't compare TH to anything else. It is truly its own beast and people either love it or hate it.

The comment made earlier about people not wanting TS and comparing that to HP .... I haven't played TS, but I can only speculate plenty of people like myself had every intention of buying one until the actual release came out ... Ts4. Deal breaker. HP would very much have to encapsulate parts of all 8 movies in some fashion. Anything less would make the world irate as hell. Taking on HP would probably be the biggest undertaking (and financial gamble) ever done in the history of pinball. The question is, who has not only the brass to take it on but who can actually afford the license? Where's deep root when we need em? lol (sarcasm meant and applied)

If what Knapp says is true, full or complete assets for Harry Potter are ten times what Stern paid for The Beatles. Even if JJPhas the money, I can’t see them spending THAT much. Of course that means we will most likely get stuck with a TS4 scenario for Harry Potter. And, like you said, people are not going to be happy with that. Very disappointing. I’m not a big Potter guy, but a full asset HP pin would be hard to resist buying…even though I’ve sworn off buying another JJP game after all the issues with GNR.

Thank you for the lead - I hadn't read the article until now. Stating JJP likely has the license but it's not a full license because it'd cost $10 million means JJP's only logical move would be HP and the Deathly Hallows. It could actually still be a great pin. Those last two movies were chock full of actionable items.
Still such a pity that the rest will be ignored.
For anyone else that hasn't seen it here's the link.

No I don't think that's quite it.
What I believe the article is suggesting is a license to make a pin set in the universe of Harry Potter, but with no assets to any of the films and likely not even the characters. Look into the Hogwarts Legacy video game that came out as an example..set 100 years before the events of the HP story..

Basically Jurassic Park levels of theme integration.

Quoted from Requis:

How do you do that??

You find a deal for Xbox Gold Live for $60 a year, usually happens around Christmas or maybe more often. Then you can go to Xbox account and will ask you if want to upgrade to Gamepass Ultimate for an extra $1 a month. It makes it sound like a short term deal, but if you have 3 years of Gold Live prepaid, it applies the deal to all three years. When three years is up you have to cancel and do it again.

I think he’s just having some fun cause he knows people have been waiting for it to happen which tells me it’s not happening soon.

If the next pin is Elton John, they're really gonna need Harry Potter.

If he would know then every distributor would know right. Pretty certain he just had a photo opportunity to have some fun with ..... nothing more.
Is anyone actually interested in this title if it's going to be comic bookie based on the upcoming animated series or hogwarts legacy game based? That's a hard pass on both for me. And if it is based on one of those two, they better not call it Harry Potter if it's not rooted in the 7 HP books.
Sadly I expect the worst simply because the license costs associated. Nobody is in the business to break even.

Toy Story was all the evidence I needed. Hard pass.

I like how Toy Story is used as an excuse for passing all future games. Pat isn’t even at JJP anymore and Dialed in is a pretty darn good game.

I’ve never played Toy Story but really enjoy Godfather and Pirates. Godfather won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I think it shows a promising new direction, less multi balls and better flippers.

I think JJP still has a lot to offer.

I think they have a lot to offer too. I owned a Pirates LE, and I loved it. I traded it for a GZ Premium and Rush Premium, two for one deal. Otherwise I wouldn’t have let it go. JJP makes many excellent games. What made me sour on them was the needless bullshit they pulled with GNR, particularly the part where they changed their warranty mid-run and refused to swap out chipped/damaged playfields. Also, I don’t think they’re at all concerned with how their prices affect the industry and prospective buyers.

I currently have 12 games in my collection from all major manufacturers, including Bally/Williams and Gottlieb. But I DON’T have any JJP games for the reasons I stated. I think a lot of people feel the way I do. Unless JJP does some serious fence-mending I think they’ll continue to suffer from negative opinions of their company…which, of course, correlates to sales.

My comment is directed specifically towards the usage of a license in a game. GnR excepted (since Slash pretty much offers carte blanche access), their choice to highlight only TS4 was dead wrong, full stop. If you're going to license a pin, do it right or don't do it at all.

When did that happen? Last I heard he was only done designing JJP games, but was taking on a more executive producer type role for all JJP production, which is a terrible idea. Is he physically out at JJP?

By the time they got back around to TS, after the Wonka interruption, TS was no longer on the table. Only TS4. That doesn't appear to have been up to JJP.

Now, does that mean JJP should have walked away, or have been more suggestive? Absolutely.
