finally played gnr LE. It looks like the coolest pin in a very long time. lights, art, and PF are very attractive and pleasing to the eye. that said, Eric is NOT pat Lawlor. He doesn't design games the same way. GNR shoots kinda clunky; it's nowhere near as good a shooter as wonka or DI, TBH. however, the art, lights, and mechs (locks, upper PF etc...) and hotrails make this game a serious keeper in a home environment. it's hard to achieve goals, like wonka, but that makes it a keeper too.

Eric could use some mentoring on shot design and layout. the biggest downfall of GNR is the scoop. Its too frequently used, and disrupts the game IMO. the scoop should've been a wide shot like MET; it would have opened up a lot of real estate in the middle PF for something better and more flowing design on the PF. also, the top hat is a miss. its so large and obstructive, and does nothing to add to the gameplay experience. that's slash's ego right there; his top hat had to be prominent and in your face!

Overall, no regrets for me. I'm excited to unbox this game at home and play the crap out of it!!

i think the LE/CE edition does not play clunky and is rather good for combo shots / the loop orbits either way are butter as is the spinner off the loops and or ramps .
Each Designer has their own thing and i have for the longest time liked Steve Ritchie games but his games get Turd art packages most times and after so many titles you get tired of that same design of flow . This is my first Eric design but am rather Happy with it . More than happy

    pie hole the demogorgan

I have yet to play a location ST that the ""PieHole"" shot can be made at all.

Wow... Not one "you're just jealous because you can't afford it" post. Pinside snobbery must've taken the day off.

Do you know any of the OPs? Plenty of help out there to fix it if they want.

Sorry I know everyone has an opinion but I don’t think you could be any more off base. This is a great shooter once you put some time on it to learn the shots and dial it in (especially the SE imo). You shouldn’t be hitting the scoop accidentally too often unless you are missing all your other shots...

there definitely is a clunk type situation if you are hitting the ball on the fly as it comes down from the right hand side on the right flipper of the game. but I agree its a great game once you find the shots - the risk reward is epic. I haven't had a game where I wanted to sneak off to play it so much in a while. And those that rate the build quality are deluded in my view but if you are happy...

I agree with you on learning the angles and shots, but I just firmly believe that eric's design style is drastically different from Lawlor, resulting in less flow and more difficult shots. the upper flipper, for example, is pretty challenging (not unlike WOZ), so it takes away from the end product a bit.

the scoop could have been in a better place to ensure a more deliberate approach to using it. In the smack middle of the PF, the scoop will be hit waaay more than necessary. It could have been placed more effectively somewhere else.

Its still a fantastic game! I'll probably never part with mine once i get it. I still think Eric, Lawlor, Elwin are the three best designers of our current time. I simply hope that eric benefits from exposure to Lawlor and creates games with a bit more magical playfield shots and angles, like lawlor has done for decades. He's only going to get better to be sure. That's awesome to think about...

Sounds like the sim card shot, maybe they are closer in design than you think

you're right. the sim card shot was a huge let down. could've been so much better....

Funny you say this because thinking that the Center scoop is so easy and when that time comes where you need to hit it to end/Score the jackpot for the song and collect the album to finish the mode even with multi balls going and the need to hit that shot in the time allotted to hit it i FAIL to do so ,so many times.. So if it was so easy why am i missing it . ok i suck at pinball! , but i am above avg i think and the scoop is not that wide and takes precision just like any other shot. , I actually find i hit the center spinner more by accident on the fly that that of the scoop .

Yeah he used to be Hazoff or something like that. New name, still a JJP hating troll.
