I was fortunate enough to play this today. I had a VERY skeptical reaction to the theme as I listened to pat talk about it ... and looking at the comic, BUT the theme is really Sim City 2000 and the phone is just the display indicator over the scoop. The art design is a strange mix of styles (some cartoonish, some sims/sim city style CG) BUT the layout was a lot of fun to play. It feels less cramped than it should and doesn't seem to suffer from one side being much less useful than the other (like monopoly does). You'd have to really own it to know for sure. These are all impressions from a single play so you should probably take them with a grain of salt.

Another pic. I played the game and watched others play it. Not one person I saw needed to use his/her personal phone at all

Quoted from jwilson:

There's a reason Road Show isn't an A-List game - it's the confusing title and mish-mash theme of road construction and country music. The playfield is actually really good and has some great shots, but the theme is so "meh" and the music is "bleh".
This is Road Show 2.0.
That said, this can still be saved. Drop the meaningless "Dialed In" title and call it "Quantum City" and de-emphasize the phone in the central theme.

Yes, but instead of quantum city, call it Chaos City. Your role as the player is the role of a player in sim city (2000) "crazy bad stuff happens to this city --help stop it". In many levels of red and Ted you're the one destroying the city, in this game you're on the receiving end of externally caused damage.

The biggest problem thus far is that of marketing.
