Not gonna lie I'm looking forward to this one. I understand why people have been enamored by the feature-rich JJP offerings thus far but the playfield layouts and themes have not been appealing to me.

Even a mediocre Lawlor layout is usually pretty good and the idea of another Lawlor original theme is intriguing.

I think after messes like CSI and Nascar he's likely to go back to what works, his generally winning formula.

Stern has the Star Wars license. They have a long, working relationship with Disney.

This was never in doubt, despite JJP fanboys wishing otherwise.

Here's what Lawlor will bring to the table that no one else really does: Unique layouts & unique mechanical features that define the game. Even his "shitty" games like Nascar have something memorable, like the full playfield race track...CSI's skull lock was really cool. Lawlor's games also feature tons of character personality. I'm really interested to see how they handle custom IP on the JJP platform. The only original theme we've seen with totally custom LCD animation has been Lexi Lightspeed, which has really poor art direction and looks dated as hell. I hope JJP's LCD art team is completely in sync with Lawlor's vision to really knock our socks off.

Oh, it was definitely in doubt. Stern ended up with it, but it wasn't such the lock you think it was. And, future Disney licenses definitely won't be exclusively Stern.

Full Throttle (Heighway Pinball)
Cannon Lagoon (Multimorphic)
ROCS (Multimorphic)
Barnyard (Multimorphic)

There will be more custom games at Expo with original themes and LCDs such as Casino (Rosh).

Nothing is definite, but other vendors have an extremely high hill to climb to grab something that Stern wants from Disney.

Quoted from kpg:

If JJP would have made GB, it would have been better IMO. Imagine the movie clips on the LCD, and I'd also think they would have use more original movie sounds and call outs instead of the ones Stern used.
GB is a fun game, but it doesn't have enough movie sounds, video clips, and music to feel like the movie in the way JJP's versions of WOZ and Hobbit make you feel immersed in the pinball version of the movie. They nailed the translation of a movie theme to pinball with them, hands down.

I totally agree. The videos clips from the movie they could have incorporated on the screen would have been crazy. I have WOZ and HB, and getting Lawlor #3. I'm still getting my GB Premium when everything is remedied, but that's the last Stern I'll buy as you get way more with JJP games.

Besides it being an original theme, the 3rd JJ release, designed by Lawlor, art by Youssi. Are there any other details of the machine confirmed?

Is Disney holding the clearcoat formula for ghosted inserts?

That one appears to be a timed exclusive, but Stern has the right of first refusal.

Looks like you and Captain_Kirk have a lot in common.

Captain_Kirk leaves Pinside on June 20th, 2016
Air_Pinball joins Pinside on June 20th, 2016

Both Captain_Kirk and Air_Pinball share the same sorry-ass upvote/downvote ratio and are both equally hated here.

Both live in Indiana.

Coincidence? I think not.

He must work for stern or a distributor. I just wonder how many fake accounts there are on here for people to boost or attack a manufacturer to support their own financial interests.

One more detail....It will be revealed in 9 days.
And Pat is pretty stoked about it and the design elements afforded by a full Pc platform and LCD a/v abilities of 2016.

I saw that there's a thread about JJP#3 on the JJP group where Jack is urging everyone to come and "see and play what JJP has created". Apparently it is to be revealed at the fireside chat on Thursday night 10/13/16.

Not Thursday - Friday , at 8. Too bad it overlaps Sterns offsite party.

Yes on Thursday night at the fireside chat and again at his party on Friday night.

Interesting ... the schedule has changed ... a JJP talk at 8pm on Thursday AND 8pm on Friday ...

Thursday = "Jersey Jack Pinball: Designing the Future of Pinball"
Friday = “Deep Dive into Jersey Jack Pinball Game #3: How it came together”

Hmmm ... How about THAT!

Too bad people can't just keep it real. Maybe they should take peoples sencere criticism as honest feedback from cash paying potential customers to improve their games instead of dismissing them as "fanboys" thereby guaranteeing that they spend their money elsewhere.

JJP have positioned themselves well in the seminar schedule. They have prime time on Thursday and Friday night with talks at 8pm on both days.

In contrast, representatives from Stern have a seminar at 6:30 on Thursday about Ghostbusters and then their party is offsite on Friday night. Gary Stern and Joe Kaminkow will also be talking at the banquet on Saturday night.

Heavens no. Stay home. Bore yourself to death at work. Why go to Expo and have the time of your life ?

Double JJP3 reveal, Jack and Pat showing off the games and then going into depth how they came about.

You'll have way more fun at your dull boring job. Any kind of luck your boss will chew you out for something that isn't your fault. Then you can go home and kick the dog and beat the wife.

Have fun.

I know I will.

I agree. I've already bought 3 tickets to the Stern party. Do it any other time then during this party. I don't want to miss anything JJP is doing, but because I've purchased these tickets I'm going to Stern's party. I think Jack needs to rethink this time. JJP is going to miss out on a lot of people who would want to come. We all just want to experience everything Expo has to offer. I'm no doubt a JJP fan but enjoy some Stern games as well. Jack please reconsider this time slot so pinball fans can see in my opinion the 2 main reasons to attend Expo this year.

#389 5 years ago
Quoted from PinballHog:

The JJP reveal is on Thursday night, so you can go to the reveal Thursday night and then the Stern party on Friday night. The JJP seminar on Friday night is a deep dive into the new game, so you'll miss that, but I'm sure it will be recorded so that you can watch it later.
Or...sell your Stern tickets and go to both JJP events.

On the phone interaction, multiplayer could be really interesting....

Maybe if you were playing a 2 player game.... while you are playing the pin, the other player can impact the game.... raise targets to block a key shot, cause your flippers to lose strength for some amount of time (or reverse)..... turn off all lights..., etc... turn a whole into a gobble whole so you lose your ball if hit that shot, turn magnets on and off... it could make multiplayer really interesting.

Hoping for sci fi theme.

#392 5 years ago

I think it is a gutsy call by JJP to try to pull people away from the Stern party. It's good that they still do not conflict with the actual reveal of JJP3. I heard the Alien reveal "party" is Thursday night after the JJP reveal so people will want to go to that at night. (The actual "reveal' for Alien is Friday.) Since the Stern party is limited attendance, it is quite a competitive play by JJP. See the cool inner thinking, logic, and maybe some new technology behind JJP3, or go to a party? Very interesting. I'll be at the JJP (and Alien) shindigs. Wow.

OK, remember the rules....it has to reference someone's mama, prison, a truck and/or train, and someone dying. Sounds like a few posts from Pinside should cover it.

Expo always has so much going on you can't always not have conflict.

Thursday night during the fireside chat heighway moved their Thursday time slot to Friday and during the fireside chat are having a party at Twin Peaks.

I agree. There is also a Pinball Life party offsite during the day on Thursday & Friday that I'd like to try to get to. But some of these seminars sound so interesting. There are some that are "the reason" I'm going. I'll just miss some parties.
I thought that Heighway's party wasn't going to start until after the JJP Fireside Chat. That might be another party that I miss ... or we are late for.
Having so much to do is good ... can't wait!

I wouldn't count those a 'theme's in the traditional sense. They are bare bones restaurant coloring book art 'demonstrator' 'modes' for the p3. None of them are fleshed out or professionally designed in a way that would make them selling points for the platform alone.

Honestly I find them to be huge detractors in their crude design and generic feel.

Excellent point! Don't forget drinking. "I was drunk the day my mama got out of prison..."
