The number of these sold will be closer to 699 than 6999. Just my opinion. Too much ego death to change the name. But it should be changed.

I gotta believe Jack had trouble sleeping last night... and Gary probably slept better.

Everyone has a smartphone. EVERYONE.

I don't and 95% is way off fella, if that was true then why is the negativity towards this pin at 95%?

b/c no one wants anything to do with their cell phone when playing a pinball machine. For me, playing pinball is a nice stress releaver. Something to do after work, the kids go to sleep, more work, etc. I don't want to even look at my cell phone let a lone have it play a role in my pinball machine.

The more I think about this game and how much potential there was the more frustrated I get. I might need to stop looking at this thread. What a waste.

Las night, Jack said the game will be released in the 2nd quarter. If the Stern rumors hold true, Star Wars will be announced around the same time Dialed In goes into production.

Luke Skywalker vs. a guy holding a cell phone...............

#1409 7 years ago

I bet you will see some subtle changes, based on feedback. This has a lot of potential, and everyone that has played it so far seems to like the action. They can save this.......so just like the famous line in the movie Christine....."OK...Show Me!"

I want so bad to be in love with this game. I was ready to do a deposit. It's not terrible, just not must buy material. Not a swing and miss by any stretch. So far, we have had more fun playing ghostbusters. My 12 year old son is in love with ghostbusters. I really hope I come around on dialed in. It represents everything I want in pinball: Jjp working their ass of to put out awesome games, lawlor and an original theme. I will put more time on it the next two days and see.

#1411 7 years ago

Reminds me of the following scene from BIG:

#1412 7 years ago
Quoted from jwilson:

Get whoever did the sound and music for Hobbit to re-do the sound on this so it's not so 90's and more epic.

When the periscope stream was running last night, I was talking to my wife in the kitchen, and we could hear the midi style tunes coming from my computer, and I told her "that's the game" and she couldn't believe me.

That style of music was fine in its day, because that was all we could do. But now it's all about hi fidelity orchestra scores. Listen to the brass on the Batman theme, how that pumps you up.

Ghostbusters has a great score of new and old music, all played by real instruments (or reasonable facsimile to sound like the real thing).

There's no going back to midi style.

#1413 7 years ago

I'm gonna withhold my final judgement until I get some time to play the game.

The presentation last night was actually detrimental to the launch, so it jaded my opinion of the game.

You know what else is really "hip" besides cellphones and selfies? Rehearsing a launch presentation and actually putting in the effort to make it solid.

#1414 7 years ago
Quoted from teekee:

I doubt Jack has gone to sleep yet.

Is it true that the game is going to be in production on Q2?

We might see a bunch of revamps again like we did with TH.

Jack does listen to feedback and he better have is ears wide open on this one.

Maybe they make a few hundred Dialed In's to sell and then re skin it to Quantum City or something else?

#1415 7 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Dumbest theme ever and really the height of arrogance to think you could roll something, anything out there Lawlor related and people would buy it.

Coming from the guy who owns a roadshow and whitewater...and who apparently buys every game before you play it...whatever.

#1416 7 years ago

They could save it...get rid of that ugly ass phone....and rehash it to this

Quoted from teekee:

I can't disagree with you. Based on what I could see on the shaky GoPro on Periscope, some of those guys including Keith looked a bit uncomfortable during the reveal. As for the reveal, it was your typical corporate hype, delay - delay, and then reveal once the crowd starts getting a little restless. When Jack got up there and asked "what do you think?" and the claps were pretty sparse, I think it hit home for all of them.

One other thing, its no longer a cell phone people. Its a mobile device. And you don't "dial" people on one either, you "contact" them. Heck, even the term mobile phone is antiquated.

I'm with others on this board who view pinball as an escape from my mobile device. It just puzzles me how this theme got through the meetings like it did. I have a feeling there is more to the story than we think and that serious concerns were probably brought up early on which were ignored by decision makers.

As for doing a quick re-theme before launch, I can't see it. Significant dollars have been invested in the code, animations, toys, etc. Based upon that reveal last night, this is it....take it or leave it.

The one that plays better of course.

I'm still in a state of total shock about how the attitude towards pinball has changed from a gameplay centered view to complete focus on themes and low production numbers.

Really? This shocks you? It seems to be the formula for success in the last 10-15 years. Theme and the perception of a limited product has been the winning formula... JJP doesn't have either. GOOD LUCK DIALED IN!

#1420 7 years ago
Quoted from Euchrid:

And i love em both!

Thanks for making my point. I paid $3k for my very nice RS. I'd gladly pay $3k for Phoned in too.

Bought GBLE "before I played", love it, bought TWD "before I played", love it, buying BM66LE, and will love it too.

And so its really only 3 of 10 pins that i've bought before playing, and batting 1000% by the way. How about that?

#1421 7 years ago

Theme isn't a huge draw, I'm sure the game will be a riot to play.. The price is just way out of reach for me.

#1422 7 years ago

I can't wait to start "Can You Hear Me Now?" multiball.

That big phone on the playfield: LEs will have the Samsung Note 7. If you complete the wizard mode, it explodes!

Yep, JJP certainly didn't "dial in" the formula on this one!

I mean, if you are going to F somebody for $12.5k at least do like Stern did and put a number on it!!!

Money grab going from 30 to 80 was predictable but to stand up there and say, "we will make as many as we can sell of the $12.5 ripoff to be FAIR to everybody" is a mind-blowing arrogant joke.

It's like saying, hey Gary, I saw what you did there and I'm gonna one up you, you went from 30 to 80 on the SLE Gary and could have sold 300 of them, what a fool you are.

Watch me Gary, I'm going to say come one come all, if 300 people want my great SLE then by all means to be FAIR to us poor pinheads, we will make them!

Wow, wow. Talk about a sleazy $$$ grab. Put a NUMBER on your SLE, but oh no, you guys are so greedy you aren't going to leave one sale on the table!!!

That is NOT what a "limited product" means. Mind blowing stupidity.

#1424 7 years ago
Quoted from cavalier88z24:

Dialed in is fun as hell. I love that the camera interacts with the player. Get a lottery ticket and scrach it off. With your hand. How cool is that. Great flow. Super fun to play again

Explain the lottery ticket?? I didn't see that part.

Collect ability cannot be produced very easily IMHO. It is usually the result of things like unfortunate circumstances or mistakes. I will give you some examples:

1. Stamps - One of the most valuable and collectible stamps is the upside down Jenny. It was a printing mistake and a few sheets made it into circulation. Now they are highly sought after.

2. American Cars - Two examples. 1. 1967-69 L88 Corvettes - overheated, pricey, meant for road racing. A total of like 300 were built and they languished on Chevy lots for years. Now worth their weight in gold. 2. Chrysler winged cars (Daytona and Superbird) - produced to fulfill NASCAR homologation requirements. Again, overpriced, people thought they were ugly. Sat on lots for years. Now the stars of Barrett Jackson auctions.

3. Pinball - 1. BBB - Great game, company went out of business. The few that got out are now extremely collectible. Even the small run of remade ones, very collectible. Kingpin is in the same boat. 2. Loch Ness Monster - Gameplan went under before it could be put into production.

I could go on with other hobbies. Actually, the stars might be aligning for Dialed In to be a collectible. Think about it....

#1427 7 years ago
Quoted from someoneelse:

It's not a focus on themes as much as the fact that the *theme needs to mean something*.

"Dialed In" means absolutely nothing to me. Certainly nothing exciting or interesting. Earthshaker is exciting! Whirlwind is exciting! Funhouse has "fun" right in the name!

That's the crux of the issue.

#1428 7 years ago

I am not there, but it sounds like the Dutch Dudes had a good day yesterday....

I agree but if Dialed In becomes a big time collectible it probably means something very bad for JJP...

#1430 7 years ago

when it was unveiled you could hear a pin drop! can you hear me now!!!

#1431 7 years ago

Do you have to write an essay or make a video to get the collector's edition......or will a phone call be ok ?

Yeah, if he wants to arm wrestle Gary, at least say a number, like a 100. I had heard there was a finite number but sounds like that was dropped in an all out cash grab.

#1433 7 years ago
Quoted from teekee:

As in they only produced 200 or so like BBB. That's not how to make it collectible and go out of business.

The only guarantee out of JJP is that there is zero chance of any collectability on that 6,999 version.

Maybe a dozen people or so get unique 12.5 k version? But then again, Jack would make 20 more versions of that SLE

In regard to themes. Go into any casino. All the slot machines are based on themes.

#1435 7 years ago

i don't think ops and pinheads will be the majority purchasers on this one. Much as Mustang was showing up in Ford dealers, the Domino's pin, and the JBM beer re-theme are aimed somewhat towards corporate entity buyers.
AT&T, Rogers, FIDO, and countless other cell retailers when i am walking through a mall they are all about gimmicks to draw you in but they all look the same , nothing really makes them stand out from one or another. If one of the retailers were to place a machine in a store as a draw, i would bet they would see an additional 20+ people a day in the door they normally wouldn't see. of those 20 , 3-5 will end up with a new phone cell contract. If that was the case that machine would pay for itself in a year without a single quarter being dropped into it. If a large retailer "buys" into it and believes it would work as a draw and and commits a tiny potion of their national ad fund towards it , they could sell it out overnight. Very well could be a brilliant idea, and i hope it works out in JJP's favor. i am dissapointed in the reveal also, the crappy video quality , price point and meh theme.

So the theme's not great. Big deal. The gameplay looks amazing. I have to laugh at all of y'all saying how time has passed Pat by as you line up to buy every pin based on a 30-40 year old rock band or movie licensed pin. Alien might have the best theme, but besides the xeno eating the ball, the gameplay and shot variation is very blah. The art is as bad or worse than a Sega pin, definitely the worst of the three new games.

Batman '66 knocked the art package out of the park. Definitely a gorgeous game, but we've played it all before. I hope that new rotating mech at least adds something original to the gameplay.

At the prices being asked, none of the offerings make me want to open my wallet. I'm not going to spring that kind of cash unless it's a total knockout. Solid gameplay and a perfect art package that I wouldn't mind in the livingroom. I'm a solid nope on owning any of them, but on location I'm definitely looking for Dialed In.

Quoted from iceman44:

I wonder who this is?
Is that a joke? We don't understand how economics work?
Might be the greatest playing pin since Roadshow, I love mine, but I'm thinking its Jack that doesn't understand economics.

What do you mean you wonder who this is? I'm a person who loves pinball, and has an in-progress PhD in economics. Jack definitely knows what he's doing. He has two goals, as professed by himself: make fun games, get women and children into pinball. This will do both.

Perhaps you should listen to what the actual distributors are saying in the thread rather than crying and downvoting people who disagree with you. This isn't Reddit.

#1439 7 years ago

Interesting to see if any major changes will be made. Lawlor may have creative control. He probably demanded it. I hear he has a bit of an ego.

He may insist it stays the same, even if Jack desperately wants changes.

Not from anything I've seen yet.

$40 million profit on WoZ alone is not knowing what you're doing. Okay.

You guys are delusional. No wonder so many well respected players and distributors say this place is a cesspool.

What profit? He ran his company into the ground and had to take on external investors.

He doesn't even own his own company anymore.

You really don't understand how businesses work. The investor is a material agreement to cut costs on building machines through parts distributors. You realize EVERY major firm in America has investors right? Microsoft, Kellog. Ya know what this is a waste of my time. You just want to be negative so you're going to be negative no matter what I say.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nullam id velit vitae elit vulputate efficitur nec non diam. Nunc sed est quam. Pretend that says whatever you want it to, and then just argue against that.

$40 million profit on WOZ....then why did Jack sell out to those guys in Florida last year? I met them over the winter (they are great guys). I met the new CEO. His exact words were: "I was hired by the new owners."

Ok Jack, the only thing that is delusional is you claiming a $40 million profit on Woz! It's just not true. Jack you went so far into the red that you had to bring on venture capital to stay alive and grow. I'm an "in progress" CPA so i can count too.

I'm glad you did but you have an epic fail launch of Pat's game. Maybe you can turn it around, i hope you do. But your execution illustrates that you don't know what you are doing.

Theme matters and you guys blew on this one. Price matters and you blew it again. 6,999 LE edition? Great move Jack
