Oh snap. What was that? My bank account if they announce a third pin and Pat Lawlor is doing it.

Fingers crossed still for a Harry Potter pin!

    #162 10 years ago

I'm going with they hired one or more actors from The Hobbit films to do custom voice work for Hobbit pinball.

    #271 10 years ago

A mini bowler machine will be announced that uses pinballs as the bowling balls!

    #394 10 years ago
    Quoted from mnpinball:

Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock and Star Trek's Khan) voice of Smaug will be doing custom Hobbit speech for the game.

    That would be awesome!

    #420 10 years ago

Hmmm, well if he makes the announcement in regards to being in London I'm thinking its going to be about one of the three things.

    1. 3rd pin is Harry Potter, JK Rowling lives in England, all the films were shot over there.
    2. 3rd pin is Star Wars, Episode 7 is being filmed in England.
    3. JJP has hired one or more of The Hobbit actors to do custom voice work and / or custom video capturing for Hobbit pinball.

    Quoted from teekee:

WoZ, The Hobbit, Harry Potter... all too similar.
JJP needs something different. A theme that will appeal to more than just 14 year old nerds.

By that definition isn't Star Trek a "nerdy" theme too? Isn't XMEN and Avengers as well?

All three of those films and film series you mentioned have been extremely popular. All of those films and the books their based upon are more popular among adults then teenagers. I'm in the "nerdy" group I guess, haha.

Looks like we should be expecting the update anytime now.

The last 2 main updates from last week came out at the following times.

JDA investment update: Weds, Jan 15th. Email arrived at 11:20 am EST
Hobbit update: Thurs, Jan 16th. Email arrived at 5:41 pm EST

Look's like no announcement tonight Hopefully tomorrow!

    #615 10 years ago
    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

Unless the announcement is, that he is going to drop NIB prices to 6k or less. I really couldn't care less what he has to announce.

We are not going to get a WOZECLE type game for $6k. That game would likely still be fun from JJP but there would be far less toys / features, no powder coat, if not then no stainless steel exterior parts, no wide body, who knows. If they offer that type of game I just hope they still offer higher end games as well.

Personally if I'm already paying $6k for a game I rather pay another grand or two and get the ultimate pinball machine ever made.

    #620 10 years ago
    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

See this is a bullshit way of thinking. If you really think even at 6k. Jack isn't making shitloads of profit off an LE. You are sadly mistaken. it's not as expensive to make a game as you seem to believe.

Do you know how much it cost for Jack to build WOZ? Pay employees? Pay for the building + heat + electric? Pay vendors? Pay staff like Keith and Ted? + pay for a thousand other things we haven't thought of? I want a Dodge Viper for $35k but its not going to happen.

    #624 10 years ago
    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

Yup, about the same as it cost Stern and they managed to kick out games for less than 3k, not to long ago. $200 extra of better quality toys doesn't raise you costs up, 5K. Jacks main reason for starting this was because of the insane profit margin he saw that he could tap into. People in the pinball hobby were pissing money away like nothing. Why not make 200% profit while it's hot?

If that was the case JJP would not have improved anything over Stern. Also Jack was asked at expo if JJP was making a profit yet and he said no and that typically it can take a new business around 3 years to start generating a profit. That doesn't sound like someone making a 200% profit.

I'm sorry but direct printing a cabinet plus clearing it, developing a platform to leverage an LCD, paying for animation / programming cost with a LCD, using a higher quality powder coating process on LE's, using stainless steel parts on standards versus painted steel, developing RGB LED boards + manufacturing cost, having multiple mechanical toys, paying someone to make a topper plus include it, paying a vendor to make a wood apron, toss in little things like clip connectors for items like solenoids instead of just solder points, design and develop hardware that was no longer being produced, and then doing all that plus hiring the staff to make a game like that...that cost more then $200.

    Quoted from iceman44:

He just made the "announcement" on the Google forum.

    That's mean! I don't see anything, lol.

    #674 10 years ago
    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

first of all, you should know that Jack is commonly full of shit. You've seen it first hand on multiple occasions. Secondly, he says that because he buys enough supplies for the next 4 games when ordering stuff. You think they order just enough boards for WOZ when starting out? No, they order a crapload to get the price break. Over stock on cabinet parts, and other generics. Plus the machining you need, and production equipment. So even at 200% profit, it takes a bit of time to recoup everything. Usually it takes 5 years and sometimes 10 if you buy the building. Jacks trying to do it by game 2.

Full of it eh? That's very rude to say about someone who has done so much for this hobby.

The guy set out to build the best pinball machine ever and did a damn good job. I bought two NIB machines last year, WOZECLE and ACDC Premium. Both are fun games but with WOZ there's no comparison and the game just screams quality and it's the first feature loaded wide body game in nearly 20 years. Sure it's taking Jack a bit longer to the games out then he wanted but games are being shipped out and code updates are actually being regularly released.

    #757 10 years ago
    Quoted from 2RustyBalls:

How long till no one cares? We all know Lawlor is a sub-contractor for one game so it's old news. JJP is just BORING!

Dude just stop with your negative, pointless and trolling comments against JJP and WOZ. It's old.

    #794 10 years ago

I also think the update could be that WOZ is getting an update to support wireless updates, player profiles with stat tracking that can be shared, and internet tournaments. The feature would then become standard on The Hobbit and future games. That would be a big first for pinball.

    #871 10 years ago

I heard a rumor that the reason we haven't heard anything yet is that the announcement could not be announced earlier then today. If this is the case it seems like the announcement could very well be a Harry Potter, Star Wars, or Beatles pin. Any of the copy right holders for those licenses would likely want a date set where the announcement can be made public.

    #876 10 years ago

There must be a time today when all the planets are aligned and only at that exact time can something be announced, haha.

    #877 10 years ago
    Quoted from scottc:

I thought the epic announcement was the partnership????

The partnership with JDA was announced last week.

    #1070 10 years ago

Can't wait to hear more about the game. I know JJP game #3 is still a ways off but that doesn't matter to me. WOZ is such a beauty and JJP did an amazing job with that game and there's still more to be added code wise to an already deep ruleset. The wait will be well worth it for not only Pats game but The Hobbit as well.

    #1075 10 years ago
    Quoted from cal50:

Any talk about a game #3 would be rubbing salt in an open wound for people still waiting for game #1.
Less talking and more doing would be best.

That's true. JJP is trying to get WOZECLE's out as fast as possible and I think this weeks Facebook photo shows just how committed Jack is to doing that. He has a lot of passion for his company and pinball in general. The wait will be well well worth it for people with WOZECLE orders. I ended up getting my game in November and still think "Wow, I can't believe they made this game for their first game". The thought behind that is to me WOZ is the most feature loaded / complex pin ever built and it's very impressive that JJP built that type of game with the a high quality level for their first game. It's taken longer then expected, there's been delays, but just look at how they finished with producing a beautiful fully loaded game.

    #1077 10 years ago

No, please read the rest of my comments.

I can tell how much Jack is committed to his company because of how good WOZ is. The quality of the game, the number of toys, features, improvements on old tech and releasing regular code updates for the game shows just how much JJP is committed to making high quality pinball machines.

A very small group of people think Jack is out there to screw his customers. Those people haven't either talked to him, owned a WOZ or just refuse to believe someone selling a high end pin can be an honest good person. Jack is a great guy who is passoniate about making pinball machines. I spoke to him at last years Michigan Pinball expo and we had a great chat about WOZ. Before I spoke to him he was standing behind the long lines of people waiting to play WOZ and was just smiling. You could tell he was happy to see everyone enjoying his product and having a great time. That's just cool in my book and I'm proud to be supporting a company whose mindset is quality and fun.

    #1092 10 years ago
    Quoted from SilverBallz:

pinside rule #4 - all WOZ discussion must be tainted by Panzeyfreak telling us how pretty the game is and/or posting a picture of the rules lcd screen telling us how deep the rules will be when the code is finished.

Calling me "PanzeyFreak" now eh? Resorting to name calling again?

I've posted the rule screens for people asking for them and while discussing the rules for the game.

So I can't talk positive about JJP but you can bash them whenever? Nope.

    Grow up.

    #1094 10 years ago
    Quoted from SilverBallz:

ha! my mistake! i'll fix that. R and Y are so close together.
but what do you mean "again"?

You know I would buy that if you were not negative or disrespectful based on your recent WOZ comments. Seems like your goal is to just start crap in JJP related threads.

    #1126 10 years ago
    Quoted from Rarehero:

You keep saying this, but is it? Is it really? How is it the most feature loaded and complex game? I think Judge Dredd is probably more feature loaded & complex. Look at all that shit on the playfield...it's so complex it confuses the hell out of me lol. How about STTNG with the whole opto subway system, cannons, etc. TZ with all its crazy crap. Man I think some 80's Zaccaria games might be more complex! WOZ, while having some firsts like color changing LEDs - the actual playfield and mechanics aren't complex at all.

Those are definitely complex games as well. I own TZ as well as STTNG and I suppose would find WOZ to be just as complex. 5 magnets (2 underneath for cool ball magnet effects) with one of them being on a toy that moves up / down and then brings your ball to a mini playfield, two mini playfields with moving toys (one having multiple targets + its own loop shot, 2 VUK's, crystal ball toy, the LCD, 5 flippers, single drop target (not several but it at least there's one), targets between the pops, 7 roll over targets and two different outlane mini games.

I speak highly about WOZ so much as a game like it in terms of a wide body with that many interactive toys hasn't been made in nearly 20 years. The last time we saw a game like WOZ was in the day's of TZ, STTNG and Indiana Jones. It's just awesome to me that the fully loaded wide body game is back and that JJP is taking it a step further with features like an LCD, RGB LED lighting, stereo sound, etc.
