I just got a EJ pe second hand for 10 basically like new. Still pricey but felt a lot better than 12 for some reason.

It’s a great game isn’t it. Congrats.

That’s 83.3% resale for those counting.

Anyone who shuns a pin before seeing and playing it is no true pinhead. Most my favorite pins are themes I do not care for. It just happens that way. I can’t wait to see this trailer. Really exited to see Mark’s first pin. Rookie pins have panned out recently. Imdn, PotC, TNA, Foo, Wick tbd. Let’s get it on!!! New Pin Day!!!

The Pandora inserts look strange, don’t they? Hmmm.

I think they are saying they have already seen a small piece of the game and based on that it sucks! lol.

Some didn’t learn the EJ lesson, bashing 1st and hard didn’t pan age well.

Not a big Avatar fan but if we get the JJP wow factor again, like EJ, it could be amazing.

Speaking of themes, let’s just pass on X-men 97 and move straight to Kong.

How much is Elwin and team worth to Stern? How underpaid are they?

#55 46 days ago

Love the theme, excited to see what JJP can do with it.

#56 46 days ago

After what they did with EJ, I am cautiously optimistic. Not a fan of EJ, but that pin plays great.

#57 46 days ago

Sleeper of a theme for me. Objectively the first avatar was a massive blockbuster hit, but seems like the second one was a bit of a bust. Pass for me, but I’m sure JJP will build a pretty game. Best lights in a box in the biz. Question is will it be fun to shoot? That will sway opinions more than anything long run.

#58 46 days ago

Don’t hate the theme or like the theme - but if it’s Avatar: Way of the Water based - isn’t it gonna already seem dated when Avatar 3 Fire an Ash shows up. Kinda like Strangers Things seems to be missing something just ‘cause it’s only first 2 seasons. Hope it’s Avatar World and not movie specific. Side note - I think I enjoyed both Avatar films but I honestly can’t remember a single scene from either - I remember it was about a bunch of hippies that had blue skin and . . . Nope, can’t remember anything else. Giant cruise ship sank and Kate Winslet watched a Hobbit freeze to death and sink to the bottom of the ocean? Or was that True Lies I’m thinking of . . .?

Total bust. Cameron eats instant ramen every day now.

An insider previously said a lot of Mechs in this one. Hope he's right. I'm out at that price. But I think it will be a good theme for pinball. Atleast it's not old as hell or for little kids. Can't wait to see this one.

#61 46 days ago

I didn't like the movie but I'm still excited to play one at some point. I'm very interested to see what Mark does for his first production game.

Top 10 'Merican release, massive world wide. Maybe they're going for outside sales?

#63 46 days ago

I think the 2nd Avatar was always going to be huge because of the massive success of the first. After seeing the 2nd though, I quickly reached Avatar over saturation (ha ha....ha).

And they will continue dropping and dropping. EJ owners are simply delusional. 10k now, 9k in less than 6 months. CE similar drop in price as well. Terrible theme yet again.

And speaking of, I’m so tired of JJP and their dumb there choices. Unless this game is pure magic it’s going to fall flat and drop in price just as fast as godfather. Hopefully it’s more loaded than just sticking on a ballerina figure taken out of a Cracker Jack box or better yet, cake toppers.

That was classic. What a joke JJP has become especially at these prices. Yeah let’s drop 15k plus taxes for cake toppers.

Load them back up Jack.

JJP takes mediocre/poor themes and makes them fantastic games. Why can’t they do that with a great theme?

And yes, I know what’s a “great theme” is highly subjective, but some themes are just doomed to mediocrity from the start.

Plenty of people were predicting Avatar 2 would flop. They said the first was popular just cuz it was 3D…the film didn’t have any lasting cultural impact…it was too long since the 1st came out…etc, etc. Never bet against James Cameron!

#69 46 days ago

Haha I’m happy to shit on the movies all day long, but I think it’s a good theme for pinball.

The color pallete suits JJP’s lighting and it’s a huge franchise that’s going to be releasing movies for the next decade.

Seems perfect for pinball and specifically for JJP.

Price will be a barrier for entry but maybe Disney will buy a few to put in their parks lol.

This is the artist on the game. Pretty nice work.

Stern avatar is a fun game, even with 1 ramp and pretty basic gameplay. I think this will be a blast packed with shots and mechs. My only concern would be too many mbs so hopefully that’s balanced out well. I think Also as a debut game for Mark, we can expect a great, well designed game.

Since we don’t have much to talk about except theme right now, I’m not surprised by the negative comments or muted excitement. But there’s tons of really fun games that didn’t have the best Themes.. a fun game is a fun game imo regardless of theme.

#72 46 days ago

Just got my first JJP an Elton John last week. Had never been a fan of JJP games prior to that, but the Richie design and snappy flippers hooked me. EJ is an amazing game!

So now that I’ve experienced a proper JJP they are first on my radar. I’ve kinda lost interest in Sterns because they just don’t seem like as much bang for the buck.

That said, I’m just a regular guy who’s into pinball and not a high roller. So I can’t go thinking I’m now going to buy every JJP that comes out. But I have a feeling this game is going to be stunning!

I've never met anyone or even seen anyone online talk in depth about Avatar lore the way people do with Star Wars, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, Ghostbusters, and Star Trek. Are there really that many Avatar fans out there that will buy this game? I don't know.

There are big fans of Avatar but we shall see if there is a pinball crossover. When Pandora first opened at Animal Kingdom you had to wait for hours to spend $150 on a Banshee toy that went on your shoulder. But we are talking 100 times the price of a banshee toy.
My kids love Avatar, both the movies and Pandora in Animal Kingdom. I really enjoy the Flight of Passage ride and the quick service Resturant there Sautli Canteen has excellent food. So we recently got the Stern Avatar game and it has been a big hit. I’ve had 12 games in our basement over the last 6-7 years and this one gets the most plays by my family by far. My daughters will play it on their own because it’s Avatar and they like the music and the callouts and the Amp Suit that moves and falls down.
All that being said I can’t wait to play it at an arcade but we won’t be buying. Even if it’s amazing we are getting our fill of Avatar fun for a third of the price of the base model.

#78 46 days ago

Why can’t JJP do something that everybody wants like Star Wars, The Matrix or Harry Potter? They seem to always pick a theme way off left field! The Godfather? Elton John? And now Avatar?

This is annoyingly reaccuring.

What jjp themes (besides DI), do you think is bad?
And how does theese "bad" themes compare to such as munsters and cartoonish versions of every uninteresting marvel char for example?

#84 46 days ago

Ill admit the game will be gorgeous.

The theme is not terrible by any stretch, just a big yawn IMO. Zero nostalgia.

#85 46 days ago

Ummmm, I know I know, shame on me... but... Im sure I'm not the only one that sees something sus in that playfield design....

Avatussy, they knew what they were doing for sure

Looks great!!!

#87 46 days ago

I wish theme and gameplay always intersected. The Big Lebowski is one of my favorite movies but the game wasn’t a keeper for me (needed constant fixes and got bored quickly). It looks great and it’s fun to hear the call outs but it just wasn’t fun after a couple months.

I dismissed Foo Fighters entirely upon release but I took one back in a trade and it is incredibly fun to shoot. When Elton John was released, I dismissed it as well but it’s by far my favorite game and I have owned Godzilla, Deadpool, JP, all JJPs. Point is, even if the theme isn’t a direct hit with you, it’s worth keeping an open mind because it could be a fantastic game. However, sometimes your favorite theme will also disappoint.

#88 46 days ago

I’m in on this one. I fear for my wallet as I love the theme so much I may have to spring for the top of the line model

#89 46 days ago

When I first saw this photo all I saw was "ANDOR" and got kind of excited. Then I realized...

#90 46 days ago

JJP is probably going to do some really cool things with the lighting. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring the small insert type lighting from the cities in GNR and tie that into the Tree of Souls (which we see the base of at the bottom of the playfield) to create some neat light shows.

Avatar is going to be a around for a long time at this point which will help the game. Avatar 3, Fire and Ash, comes out December of 2025. Avatar 4 is already in production and Avatar 5 will follow after that.

Now comes the licensing question with Disney, did JJP get actor video + actor audio from at least one of the films which appears to the second based on the inserts? Pirates of the Caribbean had a botched license with no film actor video and audio...Toy Story was significantly better in regards to licensed assets and multiple actors did custom callouts. Will see what happens with Avatar.

#91 46 days ago

I'm not a huge Avatar fan, but I think this may be the best (top 3 minimum) theme JJP has ever done and that this theme lends itself to be the best looking, most world under glass pin that has ever been created.

I think at time of release from a visual point of view, WOZ was the greatest pin released, then Hobbit, then G&R, then Elton John. All these games are beautiful. All these games sound amazing. I believe Avatar will be the best looking and sounding machine at time of release. Depending on what they do with sculpts this could be the most impressive game ever released and that the average non-pin person will likely think it so.

HOWEVER,

Avatar is not a "I gotta have it" for most people... it is a theme with potential that won't turn off a large swath of buyers like say Walking Dead, Elton John, or Beatles. It is also going to be the most expensive mass market pin at time of release ever. Alot will also depend on how it flips. If it shoots like Elton, looks like Hobbit, and sounds like JJP we could have a monster on our hands... but a monster almost all of us are priced out of.

#92 46 days ago

People can shit on the theme as much they want but its gonna be a banger art wise and gonna be a surprise a la EJ,no doubt about it

#93 46 days ago

I get it's the hype thread so I'll be seeing the door (as I have no hype for this considering the theme but respect those that do) but I do own 3 JJPs and I do like Avatar although like many - not a diehard.

I'm sure the game will look great but why do companies with money, like JJP, continue rolling the dice vs. buying the AAA theme? At best, they'll start from digging out of the theme choice (yet again) which is such a harder journey and at 12/15k - it's a tremendous lift.

How someone like Dutch gets a proven hit with BTTF and JJP does this? No idea.

At these prices, anyone who thinks the combination of TS4, Godfather, EJ and now Avatar is a winning formula needs to get their head checked out. Overflow of inventory and CE's still being available at JJP proves this out - dealers going to have to work overtime again on this. Buy Buy Buy.....

There's now a poll at the top of the thread. Excited to see the rest!

Probably right. This isn’t a theme with a fan culture so big or enthusiastic that a pinball manufacturer looks at as a market from which to bring in new pinball players/buyers. That’s what Pokemon might be. It’s what Star Wars is for Stern.
No, what I see here is the potential - the potential - for a fantastic machine targeting existing pinball hobbyists that delivers an immersive game experience that is better than the movies that inspired it. Will that potential be realized? Let’s see how it flips.

I wish I could upvote this more than once.

I'm sure there will be innovative mechs and good gameplay.

Pinside tends to be so negative and gives good games a bad rep, before ever playing it. Let's see what this can do!

I don't know how family friendly this pin with be with a vagina between the flippers...

#100 46 days ago

I was really hoping this would be Matrix or Harry Potter. I seem to be one of the few here who loved the Avatar movies, but having played a handful of JJP games (TS4, Godfather, Wonka), none of them made me say "I need to own this" (haven't found an Elton John to try in Orlando). They all felt very "off" to me and not engaging enough to want to keep playing. I'd definitely have to play this one first, but I'm sure it'll be a stunner after seeing video of the EJ CE.
