That's a mouthful.

JJP4 is a nautical theme. (IMHO)

#1303 2 years ago
Quoted from vireland:

If it really is PotC, I expect it to be more like WoZ in the toy department, which is F-I-N-E with me because WoZ is a great game, and lots of cool toys would somewhat cover the disappointment of another PotC pin in just 10 years.

I actually hope the toys aren't like WOZ. I'm over plastic sculpts that spin or move up and down but don't really DO anything. I want to see interesting mechanical devices that you interact with or affect shot paths.

You're discounting the mechanical action items that are in WoZ:

Flying Monkey
Castle entrance doors
Double castle doors to bash
Crystal Ball with VUK
Multiple magnets

None of those are molded plastic, and none spin or go up and down. That said, I think the witch and the spinning house add to the game, too, and you DO interact to make them do their thing, it's not random.

#1306 2 years ago

If it is pirates who would have thought that a POTC pinball game would be redone so soon? Whos begging for that>

#1307 2 years ago

I was being sarcastic earlier. I really can't believe that SW play field was made so bland because of Disney. I believe it was all up to Stern. A jjp potc will probably show a packed play field completely opposite of SW. That was my point.

I would love to see a cannon like in acdc with a tight shot into a ship across play field to sink it. Magnets hopefully used well to. So many cool things they can do.

That's a cluttered clunkfest. All I want are interesting mechs and features like the great 90's games had. Time Expander on Dr. Who, MM's castle, Shadow's ramp divertors/upper playfield...something like NGG where each ramp is a ramp, a bash toy, and a lock shot. I want to see creative use of space - where one shot can have multiple outcomes.

#1309 2 years ago

Do we know if it will be a standard or wide body?

Then u sld like the stuff on the new potc.....

Personally I think it's a "bleh" idea...but I can see the logic behind it. Stern POTC came out over a decade ago...that's actually a long time! It was one of Stern's best sellers for home sales AND location....so, they're hoping ops remember how much POTC earned & Disney-fan home buyers want an "upgrade". POTC is kind of a whatever franchise in the US, but it's still huge overseas...perhaps they're hoping to hook foreign market sales?

Look, I think it was a great first effort from JJP and even though I'm not a big fan of the game, I do respect it...but none of those mechanical features are that interesting or satisfying to me. The Monkey is just a magnet that takes the ball up...not nearly as cool as magnet toys like BSD's mist ball or TAF's Thing. The castle doors just reveal a kickout saucer...would have been more interseting/satisfying as a lock or shot reveal. Crystal ball, just an LCD...magnets, tons of games have magnets. Look, it all works for the theme and brings the game to life - that's fine...I just want to see something REALLY INTERESTING and UNIQUE in terms of engineering and function, especially considering what these games cost now.

Well the good news is JJP is moving more that direction. Stern is clearly moving away from that. So at least we have one manufacturer TRYING.

Yup. I don't see myself buying another new game...but if I DID, it would be a JJP.

GB is full of unique toys and devices. Just because Ritchie goes spartan on Star Wars doesn't mean all Stern games are going to be like that.

#1316 2 years ago

Although I am in the same boat (heh) of not wanting another POTC themed game, I think back to all the negativity towards DI after the leaks and look how that turned out!

I don't think POTC is a bad theme, just an odd choice. I am excited to see what they do with it.

No it's not, but it's somehow fooled people into thinking it does since it looks cool.

-Pro has a booger on a string...aaaand...that's it.

-Prem/LE's booger has extra movment that's irrelevant cuz there are no optos/switches on his mech.
-Magna slings ruin a fundamental pinball feature by trading something that worked well for a shitty gimmick.
-Ecto Goggles weren't developed enough to be a useful feature.

What else? Some molded buildings? Those aren't unique or a device. The stupid fucking game couldn't even get flipper placement right.

#1318 2 years ago

I'd love to see a Pirates of the Caribbean, but based on the Disney ride, not the movies.

At least Trudeau TRIED with unique designs every time. That party's now over before it really got going.

You basically listed the standard toys of any cool pinball. What other ideas would you like? Most games are often the same mechanical ideas reused. There really is only so much you can physically do. I thought maybe holographic ghosts going across the play field would be cool. Again, only so much to do with ball interaction. No doubt about it though, if you want high tech gadgets, cool toys, magnets, great immersion, and great rules, then jjp is the only way to go.

You're a well known GB hater, so your opinion is about as valid as confederate money.

Slimer mech is superior on Premium. Magna kings are HIGHLY regarded by GB owners. To say the ruin a fundamental pinball feature is just asinine.

Ecto Googles are interactive, and if you actually ever played the game more than one damn time you would know all of that.

Ramp system and under playfield lock is unique as well.

Sorry, but you're dead wrong....pretty much like always.

Shadow has some very unique toys.

You're a GB lover, so your opinion on pinball is fundamentally irrelevant. Newbs like you love GB because you haven't experienced all the great games out there. Play some more games, you'll understand what a vomit box GB is one day.

Quoted from Sinestro:

Slimer mech is superior on Premium.

Why? What does the movement offer? Unlike BDK/B'66 crane or Mick-on-a-stick, the game doesn't know where Slimer is, so his side to side movement is meaningless.

Quoted from Sinestro:

Magna kings are HIGHLY regarded by GB owners.

Yeah, GB owners! Not by people who've actually played pinball. They barely work, and when they do, they sometimes swirl the ball to a stop, so it falls straight down the middle. Not what slings are supposed to do.

Quoted from Sinestro:

To say the ruin a fundamental pinball feature is just asinine.

No, it's true. Slings do a certain thing. Magna slings fuck it up.

Quoted from Sinestro:

Ecto Googles are interactive, and if you actually ever played the game more than one damn time you would know all of that.

Played it tons to convince myself it wasn't a piece of shit. I know what the goggles do. They show a few different ghosts & a child porn guy's cat. They don't fundamentally add anything to the gameplay. Pure visual gimmick.

Quoted from Sinestro:

It's a ramp.

I'm always right. Sorry you like playing garbage for some reason.

Looking forward to this reveal. This one is going to erase my disappointment from last year.
Got a feeling JJP #4 is going to be HUGE, major wow factor.

Ice I hope it's good. If not, it will be a sad day Thursday.

Oh, I want to play along.

Order from KingPin Games and get the absolute closest line possible to the game designer. No distributor is closer than we are. Eric is my younger brother. Not going to get much closer than that.

In all seriousness, order from whomever you feel most comfortable with. Whomever is going to give you the best "deal" (cost, support after the sale, follow up calls, etc). No matter where you get this game you will receive an amazing machine with wonderful service staff to help if there are any issues.

Show JJP they were right to bring in new blood to the designer rehlm. So excited to let the world see this. Tomorrow can't get here soon enough.

I think its going to exceed expectations. Jack always talks about making the next game better than the last. I really do think this is going to deliver the wow factor from the get go.

New designer and a popular theme for the most part is exciting.

Technically, yes. But, I've been in the gaming industry for over 25 years now(I'm 29). My dad started a route operation when I was around 3, and I was repairing games for him since the age of 7. Age of 12, every weekend, night, and summer was working for him repairing games in the shop and 100+ accounts we had around the Wisconsin Dells. I got an Electrical Engineering Degree and Mechanical Engineering Masters from UW Madison, and I've been working for JJP for 5 years now as the Electrical Engineer. I'm a decent player, and know pinball from many aspects (Operator, Collector, Tournament Player, Manufacturer, and now, Designer).

Can't wait to show you guys the game tomorrow! Hope to see most of you there. Some of you guys....not so sure about

Cheers,

Eric

The latest Coast to Coast Pinball Podcast from Nate Shivers, he said that his sources are pretty much confirming it will be a widebody. Take it for what it's worth (still rumor), but Nate does seem to have connections.
