Well it's a balmy Sunday evening here in Brisvegas and my latest project is all but complete.
Jaws retheme of Fishtales.

I'll do a good write up soon, but it's beer'o'clock and I've been keen as to share it with you.

Projects like this and my Mad Max take a team effort...thank you so much to all involved.

Enjoy the pics..

I'll do a full game play video when I can get my phone settings setup right...

Here is a short clip testing..

Happy Sunday

Kurt

#5 2 years ago

Be nice to see some pics with some lights on ...
Pinball news game style would be nice

Looks cool though

#6 2 years ago

Nice
I wanted to do this with my Sopranos- turn the yacht into the Orca, the safe into the shark cage, yellow barrel pop bumper etc.. but I sold it.

Now I'm thinking of converting my Dirty Harry into a John Wick

#7 2 years ago

That’s awesome! Jaws is my dream theme. Congratulations on a job well done.

#8 2 years ago

Great work. Love the barrels.

#9 2 years ago

Wow it's beautiful.
Can i ask how did you change the sounds etc. from fishtales?

#10 2 years ago

Thankyou yes all custom music and callouts from the original movie plus all custom animations.
I'm going to put a nice video together on YouTube and will post link.

Great theme the pinball companies are missing out!

#12 2 years ago

Retheme look great! I’m pretty sure that Stern or JJP or Spooky will make a JAWS in 2025 for the 50th anniversary.

Richard Dreyfuss is still around and would be great to have him provide custom call outs.

6 years ago I thought they would make a 40th… https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/jaws-ideas-to-have-stern-sink-their-teeth-intodun-dunn

#13 2 years ago

Just when I thought it was safe to go back into the water.

Awesome work, and looking forward to seeing more.

#15 2 years ago

To be very honest...I have alot of trouble taking pictures or video. I am just using a Samsung A52 phone to do it all.

Getting the settings right on the phone so it doesn't blow out the colour or just look wrong along with the challenges of reflection in my shed is harder work than building the thing!

Thanks for the nice comments...

As I said it was only possible with help from others who I listed in the credits on the game. Special thanks to Martin, Tim, Chris, Stuzza, Gary, Alex, Flippercraft, Pinsound and Pin2dmd tech.....

#19 2 years ago

Still some sounds to add as you will hear!

#24 2 years ago

Hooper drives the boat Chief! Any callouts?

#25 2 years ago

Yes...pretty much all the classic lines from the original movie are in there....particularly Quint.

Here's to swimmin' with bow legged women!

I used to own this model.. this orca or something similar would look amazing as part of the playfield.

Bit more game play recorderd yesterday.

Man Fish Tales has always been a game that I loved playing but didn’t really like the theme. Maybe I could talk you into selling me a kit!

KJS can you share some more pics of your amazing machine? Like to see some closeups of the playfield. You did such a good job

#33 1 year ago

Sure....
Moved some inserts around from the original layout.
The game code all fits in with the original movie.
Hooper, Quint and Brody are the Jackpots. Stretch the truth changed to different prey and meals for Bruce, balls to barrels, long cast to long swim, monster fish to monster shark , stringers spell Jaws with takes told as the victims - Pippet, Alex, Chrissie and then the scuba tank and so on - lots more integration.
The whole theme and movie fitted perfectly to the table. Very proud of it and big thanks to all involved...especially Martin, Gary, Chris, Craig, Alex, Bob and Tim.
Robin has been kind enough to list it up in the games along with my Mad Max so I can add them to my collection. Next retheme is something a bit left of centre and more focussed on down under.
I'm still tweaking the pinsound mix a bit more as well.
Thanks to Quint there are some awesome callouts in there.

It’s just f-ing ridiculous how cool this thing is. One of the greatest things I have ever seen.

#36 1 year ago

Fantastic.. impressive art work.
where did you end up using the shark figure you showed in a previous post?

#37 1 year ago

I've mounted it above the top right pop bumper with a metal scuba tank in his mouth.
This week I'll be finishing all the small touches and will do a better video. Thanks again for the nice comments.

Everyone be sure to submit JAWS as your favorite Homebrew for this year's TWIPY awards: https://twipys.com

#47 1 year ago

Hi all. A very big thankyou for everyone who nominated my JAWS project for the TWIP awards this year.
It was a mile of hard work and I'd like to thank everyone involved to bring it to life.

I've decided not to accept the inivitation for a few reasons. Firstly, when I went in it some time ago with Mad Max the picture/blurb was not the best stuff or all of the material I submitted and felt like it was just a filler to other favourites by them. Even the tone of the communiction was strange at the time.
I also thought Steam Boat Willy was beautiful and miles ahead of all and deserved the win.
Secondly, the debate about rethemes vs homebrew means alot understandably, to many people and I totally understand it. There are weak and strong examples in both areas in my opinion. I really dont want to be in the debate, but believe there should be two categories.

I'm extremely happy with the end result, all of the original movie content in sounds and art etc, and how fun it is to play. If anyone is in the Brisbane area down under please touch base if you would like to have a game or two on it.

I'll do a full write up or you tube clip expalining all the features over the festive season at some stage.

Stay tuned for more custom games from me in 2023.

cheers
Kurt

Classy response. I’m sorry you feel caught in the middle. This is a fantastic job and you should feel enormously proud of it.

It’s honestly hard to imagine a commercial licensed Jaws game looking better than this, let alone as good. The passion shines through in ways that can be hard when “playing by the rules” in the real world of money and politics.

I was just in Brisbane for an entire week with lots of time spent visiting Netherworld and other spots. Wish I’d seen this thread months ago! Looks amazing!
