Quoted from KingVidiot:

Well, it’s an exposed metal post, for one. Narrows the shot unnecessarily for two, and it’s an obvious cause of airballs for three obvious problems.
If I hammered a nail in the center of the play field, I could also just say “just shoot to the right of it and it’s fine”. I want to know the reason why this metal rail is directly in the shot path.
It just seems like a strange oversight.

I'm guessing it's there to keep you from smashing into the the reel arbor, which may not be able to sustain a direct hit like that. It you moved it as you suggest it would be exposed.

Quoted from Laserbeak21:

So, my original gearbox for the fin motor failed. I received a replacement from stern and it is working well, not grinding like before. However, now I have a failed switch at a certain position of the fin movement. So, now am I dealing with an optical switch or other switch problem as well? Does this require a complete replacement as some have suggested or is it something I can fix on my own? I know there have been problems with this for others as well, looking for suggestions. Thanks all. [quoted image]

Switch 61 is stuck open or stuck closed? If it failed you need a new opto board.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

If you move it over it will affect the ball’s exit most likely. You shouldn’t get anything more than a slight ball hop if you hit the rail dead on full speed. It’s rounded so won’t affect the balls condition, but definitely keep an eye on the balls I guess.

I also bet you would heavily damage the reel rod if you could hit it full power.

That was my thought as well, but then wouldn’t angling the ball guide solve all problems here?

1. opens up the shot

2. prevents ball from hitting spinner post

3. prevents air balls

Would a small flipper rubber fit over it ?

I got a second Polk sub (1st is attached to games in another room) for a great deal. The webpage says it is referbished but it looks new (just the packaging was a little beat up). Never ordered from this webpage but the have a great price ($99) with free fast shipping!

Fixed my Ponwoofer installation and it sounds amazing with this game as usual. And yes...I was sick and medicated so it was user error.

This will be available soon, new precision reel bushings with oilite bronze sleeves for Jaws. I'll have this in my booth on display at TPF. I'm also working on an updated Reel spinning disc as well to replace the factory sheet metal part, similar to what I had designed for AIQ. Hope to have that out in a few weeks.

I think if you changed the angle it would prevent being able to hit the shot from both directions

It’s there so you don’t pound the reel itself and helps guide your shot.

Sure there are a few airballs. So what.

Maybe give Elwin a jingle.

Quoted from flynnibus:

Then you should check in with a neighbor... because you're doing it all wrong.
Glass is so inert you can easily use strong solvents on it and is so hard you can use razors or other hard scraping tools easily. A cloth rag for some friction with a solvent, or scraping and you'll be done in seconds.
It's why painters don't even bother masking glass and just scrape slop off after.
You all have the dumbest complaints sometimes...

Unless the glass is chemically etched to reduce glare, or has any other coating. Or the wrong reactive elements reach the edge of the glass and contact the backing of, say, a mirror or back glass.

There are ways people can eff up glass unless it’s plain, vanilla glass with nothing on it. Hopefully no one with HD or PDI glass is going to town on those.

If you call starting with a cautious approach “dumb,” then I’ll gladly take that insult any day. Meanwhile, Stern can continue being “smart” by not using any of the plethora other tapes that don’t leave half the tape stuck to the glass and require petroleum distillates to remove.

On the other hand, it was really nice how “dumb” BOF was and we didn’t have to clean anything off our Labyrinth glass when it arrived.

But you know, it wouldn’t be Pinside without someone overreacting to a tongue in cheek comment to a minor complaint

Just a quick post here to let everyone know I've been receiving your Pre-Orders for the Reel bushings. I was asked by a few if the upper playfield bushing is the same, the answer is yes. Thanks to many of you who have already placed your order for this new modification.

Been busy installing the plastic protectors for my Jaws LE that I got from Gameroom Mods. If you're looking to add these to your machine, he does very nice work.

Anyway, one thing that bothered me was that Stern only included two barrels on the Premium/LE, even though Jaws takes down 3 in the film. Since I had most of my machine in pieces and had to unscrew the right side barrel to install plastic protectors, I found a great spot to install the 3rd one.

Right in front of Quint's shack there is a ball trap deflector plastic with a round notch in it. As you can see from the photos the barrel fits perfect and looks awesome. It actually fits so good I wonder if Stern was going to put one there.

If that’s a concern… seek help. Meanwhile… the decades of people removing actual stickers, tax labels, and tar will soldier on, in the face of stern’s risky practices of using tape on glass. May we all pray for the brave LEs who out their future on the line every release… never knowing what kind of owner they may face.

Nice work! I had noticed that the playfield only has two barrels myself and was wondering how this could be addressed. I may have to steal your idea.

I am very interested but will hold off until the disk is also ready and buy a complete kit with all the parts for both.

Still looking for any Jaws Prem/LE (we did not care for the Pro - too empty) not too far from Richmond, VA that might let us stop by and experience it in the home environment so we can hear the game properly.

LMK if you would like to share.

Thanks

#1924 6 months ago

There is a pretty detailed “spilling chum bucket” plastic that comes with the goodie bag for Jaws. Does anyone know what it’s used for? A key fob? Alternate plastic for the playfield?

Cool. Before any new LE owners here take this advice and start using razors and harsh cleaners to remove the USA sticker or other adhesive residue from their HD glass, make sure your cleaning agents won’t damage the coating.

There is no coating on the front of backglasses or pf glass!

As the saying goes… you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.

Dude, did you lose a job as mall cop somewhere? No one said Stern coats the back glass. I even said pages ago that I’m checking out Goo Gone and you still went off. No one thought the tape was a big deal, and you blew up over some people joshing about it.

Are you 100% certain that Stern is coating the underside and not topside of their HD glass? Because if you’re wrong about that just to be a troll, you could lead someone to ruin the anti-reflective coating. (And for anyone with PDI glass, both sides are coated, so use appropriate cleaners in all cases.)

Chill out. You’re on a forum about overpriced toys. Take your drink or smoke of choice and come back relaxed.

this game feels like it has so many more shots because of how many different positions the shark fin comes up. The upper playfield is awesome.
Jaws and Jurassic Park are really fighting for my favorite game.

Very excited for whenever mine arrives. Can’t wait to play the Prem/LE playfield and JP back to back. Even without the upper PF I really enjoyed the layout on a local pro.

Upper and lower “running water” and led lights added to my topper. Came out great! Only thing I’ve had to do is replace the rubbers on the left side of the boat.

I used some of the cheapest Amazon projectors I could find for proof of concept. If they burn out I’ll get better ones but they look great.

Suuuuuper satisfying combo: Starting from right flipper, under-Orca lane to wave ramp to upper pf flipper to left Orca ramp to left flipper to Quint's shack back around to right flipper. I've hit it twice and it's amazing. Very crudely illustrated below:

Had to bring home a launch party plaque to put beside the LE!

Installed a shaker in my premium last night. Right now its coded fairly light, which I like as this title doesn't need a lot of crazy shaking. My Ironman shaker was going off all the time, which fit the theme and gameplay since IM was an ass kicker. Jaws is much more subtle, and so far I like the integration.
Also installed pro translite, powered sub and beach closed sign...

Thought I would add my 2 cents, just added Pinwoofer to my Jaws LE and wow......what a difference in the sound field, totally immersive, just saying.

I came in second at the other one we had locally. This second one came down to the me and the same guy again. I only had to play 3 games in finals as I qualified first. We did a ladder final, so I only had to face the final 4 players. In every game leading up to the last game, my ball 1 score was beating all the other players 3 ball scores. But in the final I completely biffed the first couple balls. Went into ball 3 down by ~125 mill. Did what I needed to do for the win.

Yeah, sorry. I thought you were in Petersburg. My reading and comprehension sucks sometimes. There has to be a premium or an LE coming near you soon.
