Quoted from Zukram:

Correct. The outer shell is molded fiberglass. The problem was the shell was fairly thin, especially along the sides, and was easy to shatter / crack. The updated lock downs I have seen are thicker fiberglass.

Interesting. This isn't the first time I've heard of it being hard for companies to have lockdown bars made. Something to do with the stamps/molds necessary to make them being either expensive or hard to find.

Oh dear, now what will the naysayers and trolls do?

#2955 2 years ago

Yep, looks like Fathom with a few new light shows and sounds.

The audio seemed a bit simple but got the job done. It’s weird hearing it make different noises, so I won’t comment much on the chosen sounds and background music

The light shows are nice. I like the way the pops flash. Hitting the side bank of targets has a nice little show, though maybe the playback should be sped up a bit. The full RGB lightning was fairly subdued

I didn’t watch everything in the video, was there a tap pass for funsies?

#2956 2 years ago

Looks great so far!

#2957 2 years ago

Great job on the new ruleset and playfield lighting effects from Marty & Greg. Should make a for a fun and challenging game that will be eye catching in any collection. Great job guys!

Looking forward to seeing inside an actual production game with Haggs parts, just to see how they accomplished all the mechanical engeering required to produce the Bally drop target mechs and others. Hopefully Haggis will show inside the game soon, as they did with Celts.

Congratulations team Haggis!! Looks and sounds amazing.. This is the most excited I have been for a new machine!! New code looks amazing.

Has that "Disney magic feel".

#2959 2 years ago

Wow that looks great, but I am curious why you don't use the 28 bonus (and bonus x) inserts during gameplay? They are only used for lightshows unlike the original ruleset where they are incremented and stay lit during gameplay and do that cool bonus countdown at the end of the ball.

#2960 2 years ago

Just watched the video again and I am in love!

The voice call out and music sounds amazing!

#2961 2 years ago

No offence to Martin but those callouts should be done by a female voice (like a news reader)
I would have also like to have seen a close up on the lcds .
A great looking job by haggis .

#2962 2 years ago

Well done team Haggis! Game play looks fantastic and that is one sexy machine.

Yeah the inserts don’t show the bonus, and you see the green and blue bonus on the LCD screens at the end of the ball.

Still to be coded in I assume?

100% Sexy

Who cares. We have a machine to talk about now.

Game looks great and the new rules option is cool. There will be a lot of satisfied customers of this machine.

It’s FAST. I think it’s a requirement of PPS

#2972 2 years ago

Absolutely love it, seeing the mix of classic machine with the revisited code and LCDs on the apron is gorgeous
So glad I was able to sneak in late on this one

#2973 2 years ago

Wishing now i had the space for the machine and the extra dollars

#2974 2 years ago

I'm so relived . Phew!

Go Haggis!

I hope when we're not playing the 2.0 version, we get the original sound from the original game.

#2975 2 years ago

Quite a stunning way to break the silence. Looks amazing and I can’t wait to play the new ruleset. The “battle” aspect is genius.
The only nitpick: soundtrack seems repetitive. I’m sure that won’t be an issue while playing the game because you’d be focused on many other things.

Pretty sure that was their goal.

Quick update with 1 more built game. Wish them the best but still no real anything about actual Fathom production. Parts are hard to come by, & they had to screen their own glass. Do you see pictures of employees, cabinets, playfields assembled, etc. I guess people will have to wait more months for a proper update.

And here’s “that guy” ladies and gents

#2980 2 years ago

Did anyone else notice that the pops seemed a little weak? Curious if this was intentional or not. I’m guessing there will be a setting to adjust the strength.

Another question I have is will the game be updated via a USB? Hoping so as they uncover bugs and continue to update the machine.

#2981 2 years ago

Very impressive and we finally know something from Haggis about Fathom Mermaid. Game is way better than described imo, and we can judge it with our own eyes. Now that the game has been coded and graphics added and we can see 2 lcd’s in the apron working together, bravo . This video will increase interest for Fathom Mermaid.

I believe he talked about “finishing the run of Celts” where there were employees, cabinets, playfields assembled etc. to get those games out the door.

And the “build quality” reviews based on customers receiving those games appear to be exceeding expectations.

Great job Haggis, keep it up!

I did notice that too and the pop bumpers sound effect was kind of lame IMHO. On the plus side, the pops flashers are awesome. And, did you notice those slingshots! WOW! FAST! I like the positive "clack" sound of the flippers. I doubt these coil stops will turn into gold dust anytime soon.

#2985 2 years ago

Looks incredible! So excited to be in line for this game and confident that those who stayed in line for Fathom will be handsomely rewarded. I’m okay if it takes another 6 months or a year as it’ll be worth it.

#2986 2 years ago

This machine is a winner! If and when it’s produced. All I have to say is I want one…..badly.

#2987 2 years ago

This may be a stretch, but since we're playing as the ex-diver's daughter, perhaps some of the shot callouts should be her internal monologue recognizing the objectives and verbalizing them in her head / to us... ala Lara Croft / Tomb Raider...

The pops look tuned "to the era." There are many knobs and dials that can be used to make coil firing feel the way the game designer wants.

When Tattoo Mystique (a homebrew game designed in the classic Bally era style) was made Brian tuned his pops and flippers to feel like an old school Bally. I see the same treatment here in Fathom.

Can't wait to play this!

A few things about this video seem really odd:

1. The majority of the inserts seem not to be used. The bonus light inserts seem not to be used at all except for ambiance. The blue and green mermaid lights that on a regular fathom tell you which mermaid bonus you are building don't seem to do anything but randomly flash.

2. There are no inserts for spelling Fathom, collecting these items, or new the modes they added. Are we supposed to keep track of this stuff just by looking at the little screens?

3. On a regular Fathom when you hit the ball in the scoop the 3 inline drop targets come up. These drop targets are also individually controllable on a Bally Fathom. In this version the ball just gets kicked back out. In fact in the games shown the inline drop targets never come up at all, and thus are never knocked down. Do they have a working inline drop target mech?

At the start of the game, you can see the drops reset and knock down

How else would you do it?

If you add inserts, then the original version of the game would have useless inserts.

The intention has always been to make the game at original as possible, with an “extended” version as an option. So if you want to go beyond the original simple ruleset you’re going to have to rely on the lcd screen or some other feedback system. I can’t think of a better way that doesn’t interfere with the original game.

I noticed that also but this was a demonstration of the new code only. Original game play code will be an option in the game.
And because its one of my favorite features, I'm hoping the new code will continue to be written and that feature included at different times.

And maybe it already is there or will be as we only saw an introduction of game play. My guess is it will be included in the new code.

Wow looks great...obviously the new code is early and only gonna get better...heck it takes stern years after u have a game to finish the code. No one even has this game yet lol ...the code will only mature and get better give it time. Everyone is always so quick to look at the bad things that can easily be changed. Let's look how awesome this pin is and a great update for everyone that was getting worried.

Now that an update has released and the game looks beautiful, I’m surprised that none of the whiners who wanted refunds and talked about selling their deposits haven’t listed them for for $4000 in the marketplace.

Any deposit holders who don’t have the patience to wait approx a year or more to receive their machine please PM me.

The Bally Fathom was a masterpiece and in my opinion the best game of that era. I personally never felt it needed new rules, so I would buy a nice original Fathom and enjoy it. That is what I've done.

But since you asked, if I was going to build a new game based on this layout this is what I would do: 1) I would have bonus and bonus multipliers (as most pins do) and actually use the inserts on the playfield that were meant for that purpose. 2) If the game was going to involve battle with multiple mermaids i'd use the existing blue and green inserts to indicate which mermaid was active. 3) I was going to build a complicated mech that has 3 individually controllable drop targets I'd use this in the new code. 4) I would add inserts for any new modes (e.g. has Beatles did) and if I was spelling something I would add a way to see that such as a topper (e.g. the Beatles or JP topper) or even light the Fathom letters on the backglass.
