Must have been a decent party after all!

    #202 10 years ago
    Quoted from Quiddity:

AND PEOPLE CALLED /ME/ A DICK?

Haha, my comment still stands about the daily award. I just didn't think it was cool to bust someones balls who is trying hard to do something neat like this.

Looks like most everything worked out in the end.

Your opinion that you're entitled to, just as we are to ours based on OUR experiences with Jared. Nothing more, nothing less.

    Glad ya had fun TL.

    I heard it was EPIC.

Someone on FB said they were charging $11 for PBR... really?

Having helped produce large events like that, I know there's no way things ever go off 100% smooth. I hope everybody had fun that showed up. I still don't know about the whole crowdsourcing-party model. It's an interesting concept but also an easy way to give people too many great expectations.

    #206 10 years ago

well im glad it worked out in the long run....kuddos!

    #207 10 years ago

I would like to say that I take back my comment saying it was an epic fail while we were outside stuck in the line. I realize events such as this, to this caliber and being a "first" there are going to be problems out of your control.

Jared got on stage between acts and got pelted with nerf bullets and apologized to the crowd for the delays getting in the door. I appreciated that.

As for the event, it was truely epic. We had a blast. The musicalperformers were awesome and they didn't dissapoint. The whole event was eye candy and people watching. Diamond Jim Taylor is an amazing magacian, he did some tricks for us....and I don't know how he did them. I'd love to see him again.

Baby Chino was great too. Such talent for a little 12 year old.

It was nice to finally meet pinsider Fattrain in person...good times.

I took plenty of pics with our camera and ill need to upload them. Until then, here is one near the end of Tone Locs setwhen he invited all the ladies to the stage.

How did the games in the game area get treated, Craig? Getting conflicting reports off facebook and there's apparently been a lot of comments deleted off their facebook page, along with Brandon running around brushing off any kind of negative feedback, talking down to people like they're toddlers and he's their parent. Hard to make sense of all the gibberish that's coming in my email box.

    #210 10 years ago

Must be "Jared's Epic Hangover 2014" today seeing posting is slow from people who attended.

    #211 10 years ago

I feel like crap. But I have to say it may the best concert I have ever been to. It was an awesome event for sure. Epic? Absolutely. My only complaint is I would have had the same experience without ponying up for
VIP. Waste of money on that upgrade.

There are a few other issues I had but I do not want to complain too much as it was an awesome party.

Craig, sorry I didn't come back buddy, we had an awesome place at the stage. I looked for you after
Ice but think you had already left.

    #212 10 years ago

My game was played and not abused. No problem that I know of.

Frax your local and should have been there.

Oh but wait you and your wife would rather keep inquiring about the event and bash it. Give it a break dude.
I would have liked to have seen yall do a better job with an event the size of this. I give props to Jared for actually pulling this off.

Simply put, my wife said to me this morning "i had fun last night."
Funny being a pinball person, I didn't play one pinball machine last night. I had my fun socializing with friends, people watching, enjoying the music performers, enjoying the magician and most of all boxing with Rusty (cidco) in the oversized boxing gloves arena.

How many plays did it get ?

I've got a big long response for that, but I feel like I'd just be wasting my time. We both hate each other's guts, don't think that's about to change...why should I bother posting it. I don't like Jared's attitude, and certainly not his methods of putting on events and asking the public to give him lots of free things. I didn't ask about the acts, because I don't care. I asked about the games, because that's what I care about. Sorry for being interested in finding out if anyone's games were damaged or not. There were some reports that some of the games had gotten beaten up on facebook and I wanted to know if they were true or not.

Glad you had a good time.

    #215 10 years ago

    Awkward.

Anyone get videos of Diamond Jim Tyler?

    #216 10 years ago

Wow. Some guy named Stephen Young must be Jared's biggest fan in the world. Just searching google for reviews came up with a hit on his blog. Total groupie, but there ya have it, takes all kinds.

The reviews are in, successful event, when is the next one? Please take it on the road Oh and New Orleans gets my vote for next stop.

    #217 10 years ago

I typically go to metal concerts, but I can't believe what a great show Vanilla Ice put on! It by far exceeded my expectations. And when Tone Loc raised up his sunglasses and made a comment about the unusually small percentage of brothers; freaking hilarious! Those two guys were the highlight for me. Great show Jared!

    #218 10 years ago

I spent quite a bit of time playing the machines.

    They were not abused.

Everyone I saw was respectful. Those that didn't know the protocol about drinks were the closest thing to abuse I saw all evening.

My games made it through without any physical damage from abuse.

My Barracora had a pop bumper lock on and start smoking, but Evan Smith fixed it quickly.

While it did suck waiting 2.5 hours in line, I really enjoyed myself.

Based on my discussions with random people at event, I would say that this party was a great success.

In my mind, the best part was the spectacle. The boxing ring, sumo ring & arcade games were great.

There were plenty of great pinball machines at the event. WOZ, Tron, Star Trek, TSPP, Silverball mania, Paragon, Taxi, Flight 2K, Team One, Barracora, Lethal Weapon 3, TMNT, Genesis are the ones that I played.

That is a great line up IMO.

With all that, the greatest indicator of a great time was the feedback from my nephew and his friend.

Neither was aware of all the drama that surrounded the event.
Neither was familiar with the musical guests save Vanilla Ice.

Both had a truly Epic Night. They got past the waiting in line drama and had a terrific time.

Both enjoyed the diamond Jim the magician, boxing, pinball and concert.

Even though I did not pay but brought machines to get in, in hindsight, I would have not been upset with spending money to attend.

It made one middle age man and two 18 yr old kids very happy.

Congrats to Jared for pulling off a great event.

    Marcus

    #219 10 years ago

I don't know how the machines fared - yet. I do know that they were not in a separate area with security and no food or drink. Had I known that I wouldn't have left my game. I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning. - Barry

    #220 10 years ago

Thanks for clearing that up, Marcus.

    #221 10 years ago

From what I can tell, all the major complaints have been from the VIP backers, who paid hundreds of dollars and didn't get half of what was stated they would get. So I could see, were I in that situation and payed $200+ for features and benefits which weren't "delivered", why I would be upset about that; no matter how good of a time I had.

To put it in pinball-ese: if you paid the full price for a ST premium, but instead recieved a ST pro, wouldn't you be upset? The pro is still a great game as you'll enjoy it a lot, but paying the premium price and expecting the premium for something that others have gotten at a fraction of that cost would still rub you the wrong way.

I'm glad great times were had though! It would have been a daunting task for anyone to make run smoothly!

    #222 10 years ago

    Exactly my point. Thank you

Oh wait... you don't go to parties.

Well my wife was about to make a vid of one of his tricks, and he turned the trick on her and did a trick where he sucked her phone into a balloon. He was very entertaining.

All in all a great event. I do agree with those that paid for vip and didn't get all they were promised. Heck I remember early when he was requesting games on pinside, Jared stated pins brought will get them VIP status, be there for sound check, meet and greet with the musical performers and that pins would be in one room under tight supervision and that they could be removed today (sunday). Found out yesterday while dropping off my game that I couldn't remove my game today and now I have to leave work early on Monday to remove my pinball from the location. None of those things happened, to which I'm a bit pissed off about but ill get over it. Just note to self that I won't bring a game again at his next event I feel like that bridge has been burned as it wasn't one promise that was broken but several.

So what you're saying is that they should have gotten a couple of extra plastic toys haphazardly thrown their way?

Yeah, sorry. Never been much for the drunken idiot frat boy crowd. I had my fill of that at the UTD Dorms with all the potheads back in the day. Never went to a party that cost me 100 bucks to get in the door, that's for sure.

    Quoted from hassellcastle:

That's kind of crazy. Too bad her phone wasn't already recording at the time it happened.

any pix of this party yet?

Nobody remembers how much something cost years later. The only thing that is remembered is how good something was and 100 bucks isn't a lot of money in the grand scheme of things. On top of that, you are just trying to dig up things to complain about for a party you never went to.

    my favorite complaint:

"The other big thing I feel worth mentioning is on top of not meeting Vanilla Ice, he Ninja Rap for 2 minutes and 28 seconds when the song is 3 minutes 46 seconds."

I can't believe all the bitching on that page?!

Flying back to Sac and just touched down in LA. I have pretty solid videos from almost all the performances and plan on taking most of my "work" day tomorrow clipping and editing.

And for the record PBR's were $10 (not 11) but it was for a tall double size can so not as bad as it sounds. I maybe spent $30 on drinks after my free tequila and beer that came with my VIP ticket. All in all it was VERY awesome and I am extremely glad I made the trip out

In the meantime though here's me and a hammered Ernie Reyes Jr towards the end of the night

Which begs the question.. is it a dick move for Vanilla Ice to throw water on the audience, or is that his way of discouraging people from whipping out their camera phones?

    #236 10 years ago

Thats just what some people do in their acts. ICP likes hose doen the audience with Faygo, a generic brand soda.

    I thought it was fun!

    yeah... um. wtf!?!
Glad I only pondered bring my game(s) for a millisecond.
If I had been told that; I would have promptly pack mine back up and left. That's some bullsh1t right there.

Good for them. I don't tend to get drunk enough for that to happen.

I'm not trying to dig anything up. If I want dirt, there's more than enough to go around on Facebook. I'm part of the local groups that got bombed with requests to bring games. I took a game to Jared's prior event, but it was not of this magnitude. It was 100 people, not ten times+ that. It was a controlled environment of people that are familiar with the courtesy that we generally extend to other people's games. This wasn't. Knowing how they were treated MIGHT have a bearing on if I was to volunteer up one of my games in the event that Jared DOES do an event where I feel like it's worth my time/risk to attend....so whatever. You want to blindly throw your games to the wolves, be my guest.

If I hadn't been able to remove my game when they said I could, I'd be screwed bigtime. My employer doesn't let people take days off 'just because'.

Heh. "Jared's Epic Mens Room". Gotta love the Observer.

    #243 10 years ago

That was an incredible party and effort. Anyone who disagrees should attempt to top it!

    Random TMNT Dancing
DJ Baby Chino Spinning a little bit
Partners in Kryme singing Turtle Power

After reading the thread and the FB page it looks like some people went to this party/concert for the wrong reasons...

That review mentions there was a monkey. Miki must have stuck it to PETA and showed up anyway.

Nah, it was awesome. We were right up in that front center area on the floor and got totally doused with the water but thought it was great. It wasn't enough water, even with a direct hit, to damage an iPhone in any way.

No Prob! 20 more or so are being uploaded now... They're just raw video from my iPhone 5 but came out pretty good and I was able to kinda break up the songs as I recorded them

IMO Tone Loc and Vanilla Ice stole the show with the best performances
