Finally snagged the machine I learned to play on as a kid. Dad sold it when I went off to college and I’ve been wanting one ever since. Been dialing it in and modding it into how it should have come from the factory, in my opinion at least. Got some ideas from what others have done on here previously and came up with a few of my own. All of the toy mounts are pretty crude right now since I’m still figuring out exact placement of the various toys. I made them from some left over zinc sheet metal I had laying around after we built our “mancave” bar and it works quite well actually. Soft & malleable, yet stiff enough to hold things into position while prototyping. The center lock target toys are ok for the time being, but I’m not 100% satisfied with how it is right now. Still need to figure out a final placement and mount, but it works for now. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions about what I used id be more than happy to share.

Quoted from swinks:

nice and noticed you have my modded satellite dish on - looks good
I am still on the hunt for this game, tough one to find down under

Yeah, you knocked it out of the park with the redesigned dish. It’s a great game that doesn’t get enough credit. I know it gets a bit repetitive, but if you’re a James Bond fan at all it’s great.

Nice machine! Can I ask is that a colour DMD or a pin2DMD if it’s a pin2DMD does anyone know where the colour file can be located? Thanks Tony

It’s a ColorDMD. One of the best upgrades you can do in my opinion.

Anyone with a colourdmd in their Goldeneye able to confirm which version is compatisble? LCD? LED? Or both? Thank you.

LED version in mine.

Has anyone had issues with their balls and/or ball trough becoming overly magnetized causing a "sticky trough" along with either two balls or just general inconsistent shooter lane feeding in their Goldeneye?

I've been fighting this issue in my Goldeneye off & on for the past year now. I think I've narrowed it down to having the wrong alloy balls in it for too long that has now caused the entire trough to become magnetized so even after a ball change to correct balls the issue comes back quickly. I have a PETG trough shim and I've tried degaussing the trough occasionally as well but I haven't found a permanent solution and it always seems to crop back up.

The shim seems to help a bit but that's only for the bottom but not the sides of the trough. I've seen a stainless Bally trough that's available for games like Cirqus Voltaire (which I've also had the issue with but to a much lower extent) but nothing seems to be available for the Sega games.

Quoted from JFresh389:

Have you tried examining the trough opto sensor boards? I had an issue with a magnetized ball a while back. I know for certain one or two were magnetized. I replaced with the “regular” magnet friendly balls from Titan. Also reflowed the solder connections on the trough opto boards. I changed two variables at once, so I’m not sure if it was one or both, but I haven’t had a issue since. Do you know for certain that the trough is actually magnetized?

I examined the trough opto boards initially but that was almost a year ago since I focused on the magnetizing issue, so I will do that the next time I'm around the machine. From my recollection, going into the test menu also showed the optos to be functioning but it could be an intermittent issue where some solder needs to be reflowed. Also now that I think about it, I think I was swapping to brand new, but wrong alloy, balls and had the sticky issue crop up almost immediately which made me think the trough was the problem and not the bad balls. I need to do another glass off test play to verify if the trough is actually magnetized or not because it could just be a figment of my frustrated imagination at the time.

2) I get 2 balls in the shooter lane time to time. The game will load them one at a time, not like it is loading them at the same time nor can it really. Replaced the trough mech sleeve and made sure all parts move freely. Also a bit random, not every game.
Edit: #1 looks like a dubious main breaker, oddly enough Goldeneye and the neon signs the only items having an issue.

I'd been struggling with a similar issue of the 2 balls in the shooter lane along with feeding problems and it originally started because I had the wrong type of balls that would easily magnetize and were sticking together/to the trough. Went down the rabbit hole of getting new balls, installing a plastic trough shim, checking the trough opto boards, going into the trough switch menu etc. but still had the same feed and double ball issue. I finally come to find out the trough micro roller switches were adjusted too high and were holding up the balls. Stupid & seems obvious now, but I'd make sure those are set as low as possible so they minimally affect the balls travel down the trough while still activating the switch. Although I feel like an idiot, my game now feeds flawlessly and no more double ball into the shooter lane.

Quoted from gdonovan:

I'll look into that along with swapping the balls out on general principle. I did find one switch that was high but it did not change behavior after adjustment.
It's very random.

Mine was also very random and wouldn't always do it either. I *think* what happens is that if the next ball takes too long to be seen by the optos and/or the trough switches that it's looking for to be active/inactive before launch aren't, it thinks there's a ball feed problem/restarts the sequence so it kicks a second ball to the shooter lane.

Quoted from gdonovan:

Mine will launch a ball into the lane and you were hear the second mech advance ball two into the upkicker and then it will instantly fire ball 2 into the shooter lane above ball one. The shooter lane switch tests out fine so the game knows there is a ball sitting there.

Mine did the exact same thing as well. Pull the glass and apron and start a game and watch the motion of the balls in the trough. That will help tell you what's going on. During my troubleshooting, I would go to the trough clearing menu with the apron off and start firing balls while watching the switch activation sequence on screen and everything seemed fine. Everything else tested fine including the trough opto, trough locking coil, upkick coil and shooter lane switch. Go to start a game, ball one single ball. Ball 2, single ball. Ball 3, double ball. WTF. This went on for months and it drove me nuts and I was convinced my trough was magnetized from running the bad balls for too long but it ended up being the trough switches.

Quoted from gdonovan:

Tried tightening up the switches and then making them loose, checked the balls but they seemed fine so replaced them anyways. Ran through the clear trough routine several times without noting any issues. Played 2 games and on the last ball of game two it chucked out an extra.

Damn….well, probably the opto boards then!
