Unless the layout is reskinned for future games…

Yep. Stern could later make it into another "Private Label" game that they could sell.

The "only 500 freakout" seems a little overboard to me.
500 isn't THAT rare. You'll be able to play one. They'll show up at shows and select pinball palace locations, just like Lebowski and other "rare" games before it.
Even Supreme showed up here and there and they made like 20 of them!

Agreed. Only 192 Big Bang Bars and most everyone has played one by now.
I shake my head when I see, 1000 Limited Editions!!

No it’s not. There is so much more to this hobby than NIB games.

Shut up!

People might discover the true pleasures of this hobby and then prices will really explode.

Quoted from Dan1733:

The opportunity to own the most rare Elwin game ever is enough. All will sell. Quickly. And expensively.

I think you mean the most rare Elwin, *Bond* game.

Have none of you learned from Stern's Vault games? You know, the dead, retired games that will never be made again...

Also, long before Elwin, Whoa Nellie was sold as a single level, one of kind, designed by Dennis Nordman. After its run, Stern put the Whoa Nellie design into their "Private Label" category and re-issued them as Primus and Pabst Can Crusher. ...and TBD.

Hats off to Stern. They have us right where they want us.

Forget the ramps and mechs. What this game will need is artwork with a proper gradient fill along with consistent insert fonts.

Quoted from Kkoss24:

So are the high rollers that spend 30k on a pin the same dudes that build custom $30 mil homes only to find that buyers have them by the short and curlys when they eventually have to sell it ?

I would think that swatch of sofa fabric in Elvira's House of Horrors would be the exception to that rule. lol

Quoted from skink91:

I finally decided that all the odd mismatched details, seemingly bizarre concept (at least to me) of limited-releasing a possible gold mine layout idea from the hottest designer in pinball piggybacked on a cornerstone from the same IP… all things considered: I think we are being trolled by Stern, at least in terms of the details as we believe them to be so far.
Stern is pulling a Keyser Söze on us.

Stern will reveal its Super Limited 60th Bond game at the Texas Pinball Festival. Or not.
Keith Elwin is Keyser Söze who is in reality, John Greatwich.

Hopefully, they reuse this layout for other high-cost licenses the way they did with Woah Nellie, Pabst Can crusher, and Primus.
I’d like to play the layout, but not with this theme. Original themes from pinball artists at home pin prices would be awesome. I really want to see some Brian Holderman art on a retro-style pin.

Congratulations to all of the original buyers of Elvira House of Horrors, 40th Anniversary. At $25K, your record high purchase price remains intact.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I don’t know where all this “no content” stuff is coming from. It’s gaining steam with zero evidence. Why would they buy this license and not use any of that stuff?

I agree. I just read the transcript of the interview with Elwin. Can someone please prove this, no content rumor?

https://insider.sternpinball.com/documents/27/SIPP_Bond_60th_final_transcript.pdf

The only thing I found was this quote that people must of misunderstood. Which happens often on Pinside.

"Keith: To give you an idea how much studying Mark has done, he knows all his
different chimes. We have a chime sound package that's selectable. He's like, "This
chime package, it does five hits and then pause, five hits and pause. And this one does
three just based on various eras of electromechanical games." That's how much
homework he did in some of these sound packages he's putting together"

#2561 1 year ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Listening to the interview they didn’t elaborate on content much beyond the “chimes”

The key phrase in that quote was, ""sound package that's selectable".

Quoted from Damonator:

OK, so are demandecan55 and Mr68 still in on one?

For the record, I did not buy the Bond SLE. My WTB ad was sincere and I was privately offered the game below MSRP, including free shipping. This, all on day one mind you.

But as the reveal unfolded, my FOMO to buy faded and my cognitive reasoning kicked in, even at the reduced price.
That's my personal decision and not a judgment of others that see it differently.

For those of you that poo-pooed my WTB ad, it was a success beyond even my expectations.
Try not to dismiss what you don't understand.

#2696 1 year ago
Quoted from pinmister:

You know what the ironic thing is? We all sit here bitching about the price of 20k but know months from now you will see ads for 30k on second hand market. Oh the irony

Respectfully disagree. We might see those ads but I doubt they will sell at that price.

#2725 1 year ago
Quoted from onemilemore:

But I can't get on board with the fact that he just went with the flow here and the higher-ups did all the decision-making.

Then the cease and dissist arrived for all music and video clips and volia, that's what's we're left with.

What cease & desist for music and video? Please post a link

#2746 1 year ago

I'm unaware of any cease and desist about the Bond assets as you posted for this game, and I politely asked you for proof.

#2771 1 year ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

So anyway, you've got two clips from two different Bond music pieces...and that's just the Match Sequence. Seems like the game will be a treasure trove of asset delights!

It's amazing what they can do with only 4 chime bars in the bottom of the cabinet.

#2781 1 year ago
Quoted from gdonovan:

What makes you think there are chimes?
It is advertised that it has a premium sound system and the sound effects change with the era being played, I'll assume any chimes are sound samples.

I was being sarcastic to the doubters of the Bond assets.

#2819 1 year ago
Quoted from LORDDREK:

One of the things I do not care for is the LCD screen located on playfield. Not sure this is a good direction for future titles. For me it is somewhat of a distraction. I do not care for mini LCD TV's anywhere on PF's.

So, on the score reels.
I was thinking they would have been better used as a topper. You'd need to hit certain shots to line up 0-0-7 and then you'd get a 7 ball multiball or something.

Oh, and I notice some of you guys like to work the name Pussy Galore into the conversation. And now you have my non-sequitur contribution.

Would any of the Bond 60th buyers be upset if this layout was re-used in another game? Part of the appeal for me (if I were buying) would be to have a unique Elwin layout you can't get anywhere else.

Quoted from demandecan55:Nope the ad is legit. Lol - I talked to a few people before I ran out of daily PM messages. I had to buy the yearly sub to keep messaging last night. I talked to a few people and almost made deals but they either changed their minds or went with another dealer. At the time I thought shipping would be extra, but I do think shipping is included. I might up the price slightly and confirm that shipping is free.
I had some funny low ball offers as well. All good. And if I don't sell it (and I did try, a few people in this thread reached out and I gave them my phone number) I will happily keep the game!
I am NOT a distro, lol. Look at my post history. Any type of effort would show that. Thanks for the nice words 68! I appreciate it

Spinners on the coin mechs

#4047 1 year ago
Quoted from NeilMcRae:

Stop talking nonsense man.
You may have got paid but not everybody did, and the pinball brothers were an investor and sat on the board of Heighway and ran the company after the lead bozo left - but then decided to shut it down and some without clearing what was owed - miraculously assets of Heighway then appeared as owned by another company…. So yeah buy it or don’t but make sure you know who you are buying from.

People seem to have forgotten how Aurich elevated himself from Heighway artist, to Heighway Carnival Barker. He spammed Pinside for years, promoting Alien and pretending to be Andrew Heighway's right hand man. Then when Heighway Pinball tubed out, Aurich claimed innocent of everything as he was only the artist.

He's a clever guy, I'll give him that.

#4062 1 year ago
Quoted from ASAC_Schrader:

Also, does Hardy ever do positive videos or is he just another one of those overly negative pinball people that seem to be everywhere.

Hmmm, he was negative on Deeproot...

#4081 1 year ago
Quoted from Thunderbird:

Finally listened to IC podcast with Keith: there is no Bond film footage in the game. It’s strictly a throwback game, with throwback code and old style scoring and game play. If anyone thinks anything different they’re kidding themselves. Direct question to Penacho where he replied its all old school. No Bond film asserts like the cornerstone.

Yikes, an old school, street level game. And again, 500 machines is not rare at all. This is sobering news of a $20K fantasy.

Snice the price reveal came out, I've been scratching my head why Stern was not asking the expected $25K. I guess we're beginning to find out.

#4086 1 year ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Don’t let the negativity get you down. Pinball is MOSTLY great.
At least that’s my experience the past 12 years I’ve participated on Pinside and buying great games, getting to talk about them here, good and bad, and most importantly getting help from fellow Pinsiders on technical issues
There are some NOT great parts of it as well, just like anything else. Scams emerge, Distributors and yes the manufacturers will do shady things and we have seen a lot of that over the years.
Thus, the necessary “negative” side of pinball.
It’s a FUN ride, Pinside is what YOU make of it and I tell myself many times to focus on the MOSTLY good part of pinball.
Bond is a great theme and I’m sure you will love both games, which is all that matters.
Also, when you around long enough you will get to know the really good people that might be justified is saying negative things and don’t mean it as anything personal. You will end up disagreeing and making friends with them
Those are the motives of MOST here, not all

Excellent comment, Ice, and I mean that.

The only thing I can add is: Pussy Galore

#4342 1 year ago
Quoted from skink91:

Please don’t get me wrong - by all means, back out good people, back out please. You will make our games more valuable.

Here we go again.
Simple rarity does not equate to value. If you believe that, get yourself a Cosmic Carnival, only 25 made.

There are a lot of ingredients to bake that rare & valuable cake and you will need the perfect storm to ever see that happen again.

I now celebrate my mixed metaphor with an appropriate song.

#4345 1 year ago
Quoted from Zablon:

I mean... I kinda like Cosmic Carnival lol

Nothing wrong with that. I have games no one likes too.

#4360 1 year ago
Quoted from skink91:

I concur… and did Keith Elwin happen to design Cosmic Carnival?

He did not. Nor did he design Big Bang Bar.

Big Bang Bar was designed by Rob Morrison. Ever heard of him?
Well now you have and BBB was the only game he ever designed.

#4362 1 year ago

I apologize if my reply seemed snarky. I simply meant it as a counter to your comment of Elwin designing Cosmic Carnival, which we both already knew he didn't.

I'm satisfied with my decision not to buy the SLE and I'm happy for those who have. I really am happy for them as it has no effect on my life.

But I'm in on the Bond LE, which is soon to arrive, and I'm having sympathy pains for the SLE buyers.

1. At this point, neither the LE or the SLE is sold out. - Take a deep thought on that.
2. 500 copies is *not* rare and 1000 "limited" copies is ridiculous.
3. Code wise, none of us know what either is going to get and we both have to have "Faith in Stern". 1 year? 2??
4. Forget the price difference between the two, at $13K for my LE, I'm now feeling like I may have overpaid.

We are both in a similar boat and we just might see the Pro buyers smiling as they sail passed us on a catamaran.

Quoted from Aussiepinwiz:

If some distributors are sending back to Stern some of their initial allocation, what is the general consensus:
a) Stern won't produce all 500 unitsor b) 500 units will be produced and all will eventually sell to other distributors?

#4821 1 year ago

$17500 + free shipping and $18000 + free shipping. From my wtb ad.

#4831 1 year ago
Quoted from JohnTTwo:

What other collector games have 250 or less available in the USA?

I don't want to sound snide but your comment tells me you're playing a psychological game with yourself. The total number of Bond SLE machines will be 500 world wide, not 250 in the USA.
(People buy, sell and trade games internationally)

And even at 500 total games, which is not rare, I see other people playing a similar mind game of rarity. There were 500 Sega Godzilla's games made and you don't see them selling for insane money. - That's just one example off the top of my head of many.

Then there is the Keith Elwin mystic. He's currently my favorite designer too btw. But no one has played this game and yet already people are fantasizing it to be the greatest single level machine ever. To me, this is just blind optimism. What if the code is shallow, which would seem very possible given this "old school" approach Stern is taking here.

Simple rarity does not equal value. There are several ingredients to make a winning recipe and again, 500 is not rare.

And to directly answer your question about other rare collectable games under 250.
Big Bang Bar (192), Kingpin (9), The Pinball Circus (2), King Kong (9), Krull (10), just to name some.

Edit/ Looks like some of you type way faster than me. Good thoughts all and up-voted

#4834 1 year ago
Quoted from gdonovan:

1) There are several videos of this game being played so this is in error.
2) Whom stated "it was the best?" that will be subjective at best.
3) 500 is "limited" not necessarily rare. It depends on what your personal view of rarity it. They made 20,000 Addams Family pins so in comparison it is rare if you want to play the "rarity game." The made 10,000 Supersonics, so again 500 Bond SLE will be rare in comparison.

Your points 1 and 2 conflict with one another.
And I'm happy for those that can determine by a brief 30 second video what makes a great game.

Quoted from gdonovan:

1) "But no one has played this game" FALSE.

I'm referring to the general public spending some real time on the game. Not just a game or 2 at a show.

Quoted from gdonovan:

2) Someone stating IT IS THE BEST is subjective which any rational person should be able to grasp. No different than cars, Pokeman or current wife model. It's subjective and anyone making the claim is engaging in hyperbole.

I agree with this 100%

I don't think people should hold their breath on a retheme for this.
People wanted one for the Beatles and it never happened either.
And if they did retheme it, do people really think they would sell them for less than $15k? Maybe $12.5k at best?

You're probably right.

But going back to BM66 and the way Stern deceptively changed conditions and arrogantly treated customers, still lingers for me. Other examples exist and the exclusive toppers for Bond SLE is a recent example. Stern has lost a lot of trust with me over the years.

Thank you, right now I intend to be at TPF.

I have some regrets for some of my insensitive comments/jokes towards John Greatwich and his Trailer Trash build. Even though myself and many others were correct in assessing the state of things, I'd like to buy him a meal and speak to him in person.

Bumping up Munsters LE after reveal, and then doing color versions of the premium down the line

Maybe an official stream coming w Elwin playing? IDK. It's not like at this price point and oddity of the approach, they needed hype. Geesh.....
So NOT seeing something makes it shit? Nope....price, price, price, or 3/4 of this thread wouldn't have materialized, and the context much different.

I'm not a buyer here but I also am tired of the price discussion. Lets encourage people from all of us, to vote in the thread poll and STFU

Quoted from skink91:

I can only speak for myself, but I actually have been reading every post in this thread… and totally appreciate the few posts about the layout, rulesets from Tilt Forums, etc. (you know who you are, thank you!)
The reason I haven’t really interacted about any of that good stuff is when I come in here I just end up wanting to fight… because to get to those few posts one has to wade through so much shit from the same people over and over about the same things that I feel like ‘what’s the point of trying to interact in there?’ and so instead just pick a couple of what feel like most obvious/worst offenders and send venom their way. Just being real about why I haven’t personally contributed to those discussions despite begging for it a few days ago.

Take heart. I've been on both sides of this issue, most recently on the buyers side with my Haggis Fathom pre-order. I understand the overwhelming negativity, redundancy and sensation of being gang-banged by Pinside for more than a year.

These days, I get to punish Pinside whenever the mood strikes me. My favorite podcaster too.

Quoted from Beechwood:

Ok, if the deal was to make a high priced machine because of the licensor, so be it.

My comment is in general and not directed towards Beechwood.

This assumption that the licensor demanded two different machines be manufactured, one of them an old school game, just doesn't compute with me. Even if it was some sort of compromise between the two company's, I don't get it.

To me, it feels like Pinside gossip, begun with attention seeking, speculation.
I can't count how many times I've seen that sort of thing happen and almost immediately, it becomes an acknowledged "fact".

I'm happy for those that just accept things at face value, and I don't mind being proven wrong.

I'm just wondering if there's any direct evidence someone could point me to.

Careful… you are teetering into dangerous point-of-no-return territory. I am still trying to figure out how to cure my addiction to these games.
Definitely stay away from Frontier, Mata Hari, Stars, Quicksilver, hell… any early Bally or Stern SS for that matter. Kids - don’t try crack!

People are likely to start downvoting me because I wont shut up about the Haggis Fathom. But I am blown away by the entire machine, especially with the new code.
I had an original Fathom for about 8 years and this game shoots and plays 100 time better than the original.

Centaur and Medusa should be considered.

Back on topic. I was originally very interested in buying the Bond SLE. And not just because of Elwin, but because it was Elwin AND a single level.

Single level games are an OCD, cleaning freaks' dream.

If Stern wanted to show good will to their customers, they would ship one of these games ASAP, so the owners could form a Club thread and get away from this side show.

#5650 1 year ago
Quoted from skink91:

If they are still tweaking things over there before shipping these out… I hope they take as long as they need to get it right.

Well, don't tell me that. I'm not a buyer and I'm holding out as best I can not to express myself here. (I'm waiting for sanctuary city to open)

And for the record, I'm ambivalent about those Club threads. On one hand, I welcome constructive criticism. Thats, *C-o-n-s-t-r-u-c-t-i-v-e*criticism, and I don't want to live in a bubble. But on the other hand, it's tiresome to have people explain the obvious over and over again with a potpourri of price opinion, misinformation and personal insults.

And it just occurred to me. My, shot in the dark, out of my ass guesstimate, is that Stern sold about 150 of this games. They certainly didn't sell out.
I wouldn't expect the Pinside flame burning for very long on that club thread.

Quoted from Roostking:

Jealousy must suck to repeat the same thing over and over, which has already been covered weeks ago.

Just for clarity on the redundancy madness, allow me to defend Pinside a little bit. (Just a teeny bit as I've been on both sides of these fiascos)

Every now and then we will have an idiot that becomes a non-stop broken record. Fortunately there is a rule violation for that and the mods can take care of it.

But the madness enters when a series of Pinsiders, one by one, make the same basic comment, and it becomes the never-ending clown car trick.
ANd it's always something obvious that people already know. Like the price...

1. $20K for a single level game? No way!
2. I could buy 2 premium games for $20K
3. Only stupid people would spend $20K on that game
4. I've got a lot better ways to spend $20K than like that
5. I could buy 200 EM machines for $20K
6. There is no pinball game worth $20K

...You get the idea. The point is, the buyers already know how much they're paying. IT"S $20 F'ING GRAND!! ...and that works for them no matter how badly it doesn't for you.

Eventually things will quiet down, when suddenly some innocent Pinsider pokes his head in without reading anything and say, "$20K!?! IS THIS A JOKE?" (Wash, rinse, repeat)

And that's when a buyer or two eventually lose their shit and explodes in a angry comment at everybody. ....Followed by, "Dude, chill out. I'm just saying".

This is just an isolated example as Pinside will do the same thing on whatever the topic du jour is.

Jesus, If I heard one more, condescending,"know it all" comment about Heighway, Deeproot or "obvious scam" in the Haggis thread, I was going to wire my body with C-4 and hurl myself onto the Pinside hosting service.

I'm looking forward to seeing it in action also. In addition to seeing how it shoots, I'll be tuned in to seeing the assets provided and especially hearing the sounds. Music, call outs and sound effects are really important to me.

And if it's true it's beings released at 1.0, we should have a pretty good idea.

I think it's unlikely, but I would love it if both sides, (owners vs haters), could take an objective step back and give an honest critique as best they can.

#6678 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

It matters if that means you have half the chance of actually seeing one in the united states then fifty percent means something. Put it this way. I've only seen one other Metallica le in this country and that was my buddies.

Quoted from Rarehero:

Wouldn’t shock me at all if they didn’t make all 500. Stones LE was numbered to 350, but there were rumors that they didn’t make them all. I don’t think they were gonna build all The Beatles, but Covid demand saved it. I just don’t see 500 buyers for this game at this price when Gomez Bond, other Elwins, and TNA exist in the same market.

So, six months or later from now, is it fair to those who buy this game on the secondary market, believing only 250 were made?

Stern said 500 and you guys are guessing/justifying less.

Fly, Pinside rumor, fly

#6684 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

If a buyer isnt aware of how many were produced, even though its been advertised, how is that my fault. I think its fair to state 250 are available inbthe US, with the rest outside. Is that not a true statement?

Thats creative writing. A more accurate truth would be, 500 games worldwide.

#6689 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

All I know is MetLE was announced at 250 in the states, 250 overseas.
Personally, I think its a sales dud and they were trying to create FOMO by saying a majority were going overseas.

Pinball machines are sold internationally back and forth, are they not? So what's the point of splitting the total number?

#6693 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

Ask Stern. Seems thats what they announced back then. In fact this press release specifially designates US and International allocations.
MELROSE PARK, IL – April 18, 2013 – Stern Pinball, Inc., the world’s leading maker of real pinball games and the AAMA 2012 Manufacturer of the Year, announces the availability of a second Premium model Metallica pinball machine. The initial release of Metallica pinball captured the attention of gamers and fans alike. Stern sold out of both the US and International allocations of its 500 Limited Edition (“LE”) games within an hour of each respective customer announcement.

That's a sales technique (manipulation) to promote FOMO and perceived rarity.

#6700 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

No need to create FOMO on something sold out.

Please read Trybo69's comment directly about your post. They're creating FOMO to the end customers, and not sold out.

#6704 1 year ago

(sigh) I'll be moving along now

#6712 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

Im over it. The press release distinguishes between US and International. Not my doing. Met LE did sell out to Distros and Customers rather quickly.
My point is, we may never actually see one in the wild, regardless if 1 stays in the states and 499 go overseas, or vice versa.

Ok, one last response and then I'll do my best to get out of this rabbit hole.

Here's what owners should tell people. "This is the Bond 60th and they sold only one on my block"

#6715 1 year ago

Zilch! they better get together and find a way to show some appreciation to their loyal customers. the opportunity to buy a 20k pin with 3k BOM was not it. they have alot of sucking up to do to get me back. my last pins were ultraman, LOV, now scooby doo. Gary i dont need and will not buy another Stern until i see some appreciation. i like to get kissed before i get f'd Gary .
