Quoted from KirboTurbo:

I am going to design art blades. I own a printing & sign company. One of my graphic artists plays a ton of pinball in tournaments and she says she wants to give this a shot.
I’m considering using a special printable 22 Karat Gold inkjet material that I have used previously for fire trucks. With the right design, this could look spectacular. We’ll see what she comes up with
I’ll be happy to share the design if others are interested. Special “Club” pricing would be passed on. I’m not looking to make money, just friends in this limited Club. You’d be able to customize your art blades with your game number, name, whatever…. I just want to make sure the art doesn’t have any copyright infringements. They can also be produced on white decal material like typical art blades as the 22 Karat Gold is petty expensive. If I produce with white material, the cost will be less than what I see from other companies that sell art blades.
I’ve also contacted my material suppliers to see if there is are any other printable specialty material available. A printable black would be cool, I just don’t think anything is available. Waiting to hear back. Here is a photo of the 22 Karat Gold material. It is much more shiny and gold in person. Would look cool on the sides even if not printed.[quoted image]

I really want in on this. Man this is so BA!!!

MI6 and in lane drops are nearly impossible to knock down with a ball that has any speed. Bricked MI6 shots come back fast!

Quoted from Jason_Jehosaphat:

I read your earlier post - the one where you admit to being pissed about the chintzy shooter rod. I see your point. That shooter is reused on various LE's. I know the Stern accessory DP shooter was the same one. They just load a different medallion into the face of it and call it a day. Not nice!

To be honest, this is probably the single aspect that I found the most annoying (as stupid as it is, and to be honest… totally not my sort of thing usually as I never buy mods that aren’t protectors or color DMDs). It would have cost them next to nothing to have some special but unique shooter knob created for this game, or at least made out of something other than cheap cheesy plastic and something that keeps coming unscrewed from the plunger rod. This single piece of ‘luxury’ on a game that cost what it did… if you look at the ones they charge a premium for (Jurassic Park, etc) there is simply no excuse for this game to not have a little something like that.

Anyway all, I promise to do my best to not go off about the shooter knob again in here… just really makes me shake my head. I feel like I bussed a table for a party of 30 all night and they left me with a $2 tip.

Anyone know what degree to level the game at? Thanks!

#308 1 year ago

Man this game plays amazing.
Smooth as butter and very fast.

Quoted from skink91:

I would highly recommend dumping some money in it. It plays fast and flowy, with the spinners being a highlight of those shots on the left… is nice and bright… the MI6 and inline drop targets on mine are super stiff and brick/reject… when I set the sound package to be chimes and with the way it looks, it kind of reminds me of being at the casino for some reason.

For some reason?

So the cabinet is shorter, is it just the back legs that are drilled further up the cabinet?Or is the cabinet a different design ie. Not as angled?

When I set it up, we played the first game at 7 and because it played well I just left it. Though now I am curious how differently it might play at lower pitches.

I go mine on Wednesday and it also didn’t have a shaker. Seems like a rather simple step in the build process to “forgot”. I’m wondering if any of them shipped with shakers.

Maybe stock was low on shakers and someone made the call to omit them and ship after the fact.

I wanted a steeper pitch but at 6.6, I feel like my back leg levelers are already pretty far extended. And my fronts are at the lowest position.

Unboxed mine late last night, a couple of notes...

My box must have taken a little bump because my coin box was in the back of the machine and the pin was in the bottom of the cardboard box. The translight was also out of its slot and the lock was bent open. Luckily nothing was really wrong with it.

The spring on my shooter rod reels a little light so i might put a stronger spring. I cant get a full plunge around the pops with it so Ive been using the launch button for the most part for the inlane target skill shot.

One other issue is that my oddjob hat wasnt registering spins as quickly as it should so I lifted the playfield and adjusted the sensor a little bit. Does anyone know how that sensor works? I just moved it a tiny bit closer to the rod the hat is attached to and then it seems to work great, but im not really sure what I did. I also re calibrated the position in the settings menu. Maybe thats what did it. It took me a few minutes to realize the hat spinner doesnt activate in switch test.

No shaker motor. Ill send them an email.

I only got a handful of games in. Its probably everything you expect it will be. Its solid, shoots super well and smooth. I didnt set my expectations super high, but the spinners are more satisfying than expected. That upper left figure 8 shot is also super satisfying. The rules seem straight forward and super achievable, but the game has a great balance of challenge achieving the things you want to do. This game feels different than all my other sterns in a refreshing way. Similar speed and difficulty vibes to TNA, but with better flow and more shot options.

The score reels and sounds are fun. I have to retrain myself not to keep looking up expecting to read what to do. I like the sounds on this one better than the other bond game.

I didnt have time to get too many games in, but im itching to get back in there and try some more.

M16 shots definitely need some love as im also getting a lot of bricked shots.

The inlane target shots seem to register well, but man do they fly back at you fast. I like how that mission multi ball gives you a timer to restart the multi ball if you drain one in the process.

The topper is slick and the whole package looks great.

All in all Im happy with adding it to my collection. Its different than everything else I have. Worth the price tag? Thats obviously the only big drawback. We'll see how long it stays fresh.

I'm having the exact same issue. If you figure out a nice fix, please let me know.

Other small tech issues I'm having:
- MI6 drop targets do not go down a decent percent of the time when directly hit with force. It seems to be lighter hits that randomly bounce into them that make them go down.
- no shaker motor

The game plays great and is a blast. Such a fun layout. I dig the score reels and switching between Modern vs 80s sounds. I'm upping the timer on all modes because it is soooo hard to complete them (especially the pop bumper one) in under 30 secs.

#330 1 year ago

Im thinking just a stronger spring on the rod inside the machine will do the trick. I forgot to check what color strength it was, but ill probably probably just up it one or two.

Ive never adjusted drop targets, but I know some people in the other bond thread talked about cutting the springs down? Im assuming that might be the same fix. Will put some more time into it over the weekend.

If it is like my Beatles the rear legs are just mounted higher thus dropping the cabinet. My Beatles cabinet and head measure identical to my other sterns. It is just leg mounting dropping it.

Unboxed it today with a couple of friends.

Brutally fun… Hard to keep the ball going for me.

Had to tweak the shooter rod. It would not fully plunge. Also missing shaker motor.

The topper integrates well with the spinners. It goes crazy when they are spinning.

Got my Bond 60th (#225) today just before a snow storm hit.

My thoughts:
1. Everything worked great out of the box and other than leveling the game didn't need to make any adjustments. Was a little concerned because when I opened it one of the score reels was between numbers but this fixed itself when the game was turned on.

2. The back glass looks great in person and in my opinion is the best of the Bond games.

3. Topper looks better than I had expected (the 007 sticks out a bit) and is signed on the back by Keith Elwin. It shipped already attached to the game with this specialized bracket to allow the straps to go over it without damaging it.

4. The game actually has foil decals. Only the names of the movies on the side of the head show the foil and the 60th logo. The 60th logo is on the front below the coin door and there is one on each side that is small with the movie posters. Was a bit of an odd choice that none of the movie posters included the foil but probably a restriction of the license.

5. The powder coat is matte black and appears the same as that used on Rush LE. I think it is a great choice and better than a gloss black for this game.

6. Much has been made of the game not having art blades. It actually does have art blades installed but they are just black. Why did they put art blades in if they are just black? Who knows but they are there.

7. It did not come with a shaker motor as others have described. i wrote my distributor to ask for one. The shooter rod you need to screw the end on after it arrives. It has a cheap feel and doesn't really belong on this game. On my the spring was strong enough to make the skill shot, but I can see a good argument for a stronger spring.

8. At the start of the game each player can choose between different sound options (Modern, 80s electronic, and several types of chimes). The chimes sound like real chimes so I don't see much reason to include actual chimes. I feel like if you chose a chime mode the Stern Insider connected achievements should also be announced by chimes which they aren't.

9. The score reels are cooler than I thought. They work differently than EM score reels in that they are silent but the game makes. If you score 100 points then only the hundred digit will change. It is easy to tell everyone's score in multiplayer games as it will appear on the playfield screen at the start.

9. All of the inserts on the playfield are single color LEDs.

10. The inline drops work differently than games like Metallica as the software can lower the drops also. This is most noticeable with the skill shot where if you hit the first drop it will lower all of them which allows the mission multiple to be started with one additional shot.

11. The game plays differently than any Stern or other manufacture for that matter before. There is nothing else like this on the market. I'd describe it as the ultimate classic game. It shoots better than any classic, has better rules, better sound / music, modes/multiball that can be stacked, and balanced scoring.

12. It can be set to 5 (or more) balls. If you do this the back box only has lights for 3 balls so additional balls you need to follow on the screen.

13. The small screen in the playfield shows ever players score (and insider connected username if logged in) at the start of every ball. It can also be used to adjust game setting using the same fake DMD interface that all Stern games use. It also shows IC achievements. The game plays so fast that you really don't have time to look at it much during play. If you do it usually shows what you need to do to complete the current mod, etc. Perhaps some simple animations or design choices would make it a little better. That said it would be ridiculous to show movie clips on this thing. This isn't that type of game.

14. It is easy to start the modes (complete MI6 targets). They are simple (e.g. hit drops, or hit spinners) and there is variety. The Mission Multiball (inline drops) was also easy to reliably start and can be stacked with modes.

15. The mission multiball had fun rules. Essentially try to lock the balls in play in the two locks then hit the jackpot shot. You need to be quick to do it and it fits the theme well.

16. In the 3 or so hours I've played I was never able to collect all 6 Bonds to start Bond MB or collect the 4 Gadgets needed for Gadget MB. I also didn't see anyone else do this.

17. It seems the gadgets correspond to the 4 inserts in the playfield and always need to be collected in order. Was a bit dissappointed there wasn't more variety here (e.g. be able to collect the BD-5 jet or the submarine car as a gadget).

18. A reasonable scoring strategy seems to be to build up the bonus/multiplier then collect it (which can be done without draining). This can be worth up to 3,000 points with the 3x multiplier which is huge in this game.

19. This is a great game to play in groups. The ball times are short and it plays very fast. It seems it is always possible for any player to have a great ball and pull ahead with a win. No one is waiting around long for their turn. In this way it fills a niche that no other modern games really does. Probably the closest comparison is Beatles. Playing alone will not be as fun.

20. Is the game worth the price? For the money you can get 3 Stern pros or 2 premiums, and for most the pros would be the better buy and more fun. In my opinion this is a game for people who have larger collections, like to play with friends, and can afford to pay a premium to have something special. A good argument can be made that number of cheaper games are better certainly a better deal (e.g. Metallica, Foo Fighters, the regular Bond, GZ, Stranger Things, DP, etc.). Those types of games are also very popular and can be found everywhere. This will be a game that isn't seen often and will stand out in pretty much every collection.

It doesn’t sound like it to me… super odd. That being said, I did get mine delivered from UPS today so other than the absolute mystery of how it happened to begin with I am not overly annoyed about it (though also still wonder how a shaker could be integrated into this game and make sense, but will know soon I suppose!)

Very nice write up. Thank you!

I think it would be a great game to play for dollars with friends and could see it possibly being a good tournament game as well.

Wow..what a great review...thank you!!

Makes me more excited than ever for mine to arrive ( shipping Tuesday I believe).

Everything you've highlighted is what drew me to this game. Sounds like the shooter rod has been only consistent " cheap " aspect complaint thusfar.

No work travel for the next 2.5 weeks and getting a spot ready for this bad boy.

Enjoy!!!!

Quoted from twenty84:

Thanks for taking the time to post such a comprehensive review.

I will just have to drool at all the new owners and pics. Our game will not arrive for ages yet.

using a headshot of Craig that covers half his face with a gun sure is...a choice, by that designer. the cartoon gun flipper bat stickers are too cheesy.

sorry but that is one lazy ass accessory package. I hate it
