My first solid state after a few EM's, so a lot of learning to do. A system 80A Jacks to Open. Machine lights up when on switch is pressed. Shows 0 credits. All scores do light although right side scores are very dim but do show 0. Credits are set to 1 quarter is 1 credit. Dropping in a credit either passes through to coin box or is rejected but either way no credit is registered. Manually trying to add credits doesn't do anything either. Start doesn't work as a result of no credits. Self test button doesn't seem to work to get into bookkeeping. Sound test on SB1-1 works and I get sound. No obvious damage from battery to the boards, it has been removed. Original owner had removed the battery several years ago when machine stopped working. Fuses look good.

Any advice for a new solid state owner?

Thanks for the replies. Coin door looks to have ground connected, seen in images. Molex connector I reseated but no difference. When the machine is powered on it simply shows a single 0 in each of the 4 score displays and credit display. Here is short video, not overly exciting.

Hi,

I am thinking this machine does not power on correctly, since it instantly displays 0 in scores displays without any delay. Watching video of other Jacks to open, there is a delay before it powers on the displays. It is not cycling the displays to the high scores 0000000 and back on boot as it should.
Any other ideas, work through the pinwiki for system 80a I guess. I am ordering a replacement 15000 uf 25v capacitor to get rid of the 2 large orange 6800uf 25v in the bottom of this unit.

In the attached image, is this battery damage. This is where the battery was that was removed several years ago by the original owner.

Hi

The coin switches dont seem stuck. I did pull the coin mech out to examine the switches and they are clean and in the correct position. There is no power to them it seems.

The scores don't display strobing zeros they just instantly turn on to 0. The slam switch is closed on the door. The switch is open on the tilt in the left of the cabinet which should be right according to the schematic.

I will clean up the battery area. No mods have been done to game yet. It looks like you are pointing to the slam switch mod in your example. I did use alligator clips for a quick attempt at the slam switch mod briefly (perhaps that is not a good way to do that), but didn't make any difference. I would need to do ground mod still and the orange filtering capacitors are on order, but they will be a couple weeks from the US to Canada. I tried to source the 12000 or 15000uf 25v capacitors locally from electrical suppliers and they all looked at me like I was crazy. "You want what now? 12,000? you serious?".

I have pulled all the connections several times and reseated them hoping that would help. Woz, did you unplug the reset board and then leave it unplugged and it booted?

Home made you say? Woah. I unplugged the reset board but it didn't help.

That pinwiki article about displaying single 0 or 1 I had read but it seemed vague. Basically says the 3 chips are screwed? Or what does IC stand for? Integrated circuits z7, z8 and cpu are bad?

Yes cr7 burns hot which I guess should be corrected although I was hoping to leave it for now.

I will try the wiggle Raff. Wiggle didn't help. Too bad, I like the idea.

Also check out Z7 in this photo of my board, that part on the IC doesn't match the original part number. Perhaps it was changed once already?

I ordered new Z7 and Z8 chips from digikey.ca . Having a hard time finding a new CPU, any idea where to get one? I am taking a guess that this is the issue due to the single 0 showing in the display from pinkwiki article, and the fact that z7 looks to have been replaced before. How hard is it to remove and replace these? I thought you had to desoder the points from the board or hope for a socket holder. Is this youtube video accurate, looks like he is using a heat gun. That can't be right?

Is there a way to test the integrated chips, using voltage out as a indicator of whether it is working correctly?

On the Z9 IC, it looks like the legs are darker than all other IC's.

Hi,
I replaced the two 6700 uf electrolyte capacitors today with one 15,000 uf capacitor.

Where to start with this machine. Many many thanks to Chris Hibler for the extensive board repairs. Ram u4, CPU, z26 all socketed and replaced. Socketed and replaced z12, z13, z15, slam switch mod, ground mods to all boards and harness. Power supply updated with all recommended fixes, cr7, r10, 5v trim pot and more. Power led on MPU was a super nice touch. Can't say enough about Chris.

Then I was able to correct scoring issues with all 3 pop bumpers, 2 broken rollovers and lighting issues.

That was a learning experience.
