Quoted from Quadrider:

I agree and that was one of my main attractions to the game as well. The beauty of Pinsound is that you can swap back to the original mix with the simple push of a button.

Me too, I like just listening to it play the attract music, very catchy.

Congrats on your recent acquisitions, VikingErik and NinjaBoot. Jackbot is the ultimate "one more game" machine. Fish Tales is a close second. Hopefully will get my hands on one of those someday.

What are people’s thoughts on LED OCD board or not on this game? Doesn’t seem like there is a lot of dimming so not sure it’s needed but I read responses going both ways in this thread. Anyone done LEDs recently? Thoughts? Thanks!

#1054 1 year ago

I bought JB with leds installed by the previous owner and couldn't stand them at all. I put in the OCD board and just so much better with the stock programming! Very happy I did it!

#1055 1 year ago

Mine is mostly LED and I think it looks great without the boards--totally not necessary in my opinion. You will want special non-ghosting frosted bulbs for the award lights above the playfield on the ramp and bagatelle. I had a tiny bit of ghosting on a couple of those and it is very apparent since they are bare bulbs. Another suggestion is to use a downsized flasher bulb for the visor insert in the middle of the playfield. If you go with a full size white bulb it is so bright that it will disrupt your vision when it fires.

That being said, everyone who installs the boards raves about them on JB and every WPC. So, if you plan on keeping the game you probably won't be disappointed.

#1056 1 year ago

Thanks guys! I have had the game for a while and I don’t anticipate it to go anywhere anytime soon, but I also don’t want to waste money if not necessary. I am going to be putting LEDs in Shadow, Jackbot and Strikes and Spares simultaneously so the expenses start to add up quickly. Also throw in color DMDs for Jackbot and Shadow and it adds up really quickly haha

Appreciate the input!

Can anyone tell me if these posts are all correct? This is the back right section of the pf. The clears don't seem right.

From other pictures I've seen the one stud that isn't tightened is wrong. Should have a top for the gate.

This playfield back board decal continues to be a mystery. I've checked with the few people that I thought might have been involved and I haven't had any luck finding it. I imagine it was a one-off, but I'd love to find who did it so I could possibly purchase the art file from them. Jack*Bot really needs this decal!
Anybody have any ideas who might have done this?

I spoke with the guy who posted the photo, he said the game came to him that way.

I think I remember that being the custom work of someone in this thread. Then the game popped back up later with another owner. User MustangPaul comes to mind, but maybe he was the second owner. I looked back in the thread but didn't see it.

Yes I also asked and it was a one shot thing. So i made this and I'm satisfied.

That looks great too! Great choice with the purple. What did you use for that?
I also like the slot machine toy you added. Cool stuff!

Thanks! It's just a roll I saw in a local shop, glitter decal roll and very thin, a little pita to apply but final result was good
The mini slot machine I got in a pawn shop for like 50 cents. I also made custom decal laminated decals with same art as the playfield and applied here and there on pf sides and on black ramp, to enrich them. Everything reversible, no permament change. Cheers

While I was installing the colored dome flashers on my JB, I noticed a missing screw at the back behind the vortex ramp. Looks like some kind of spacer is supposed to go between this plastic. Can anybody grab a pic or fill me on what's missing here?

TIA!

No spacer on mine. It looks like the top helmet plastic flexes up in the middle and is slightly bent down on the sides, so without the screw the end will hang a little higher. The screw on mine is the same as the others that fasten down that same plastic.

Got it. Thank you!

For that back panel, instead of the black I wouldn't mind just a generic decal with artwork of a starfield with maybe a few galaxies and planets scattered around.

Jack*Bot Pinball, how it started: We bought a Pinbot, ripped out the playfield, tore out the harness, and wired up a WPC harness to it. And that was the whitewood for the first four months.

There was a bit of spy work involved with getting that Pinbot. The biggest help was Rick S, a friendly local collector who we swore to secrecy. But the whole ask was a bit out of the ordinary.

"Can you help us find a Pinbot? And can we get it in the next 48 hours?"

pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png
Jack*Bot Pinball, how it ended: Field test game #1 at the Old Town Ale House, Chicago. Drinking a toast with Larry DeMar (LED) and Jim Patla. I'm not even sure the Ale House served champagne. Maybe Larry brought it along?

#1069 11 months ago

Is there a solution for the scoop rejections (early version of the game)?
Mine rejects more than half of the shots.

#1070 11 months ago

Hey so about a year ago someone had purchased a proto Jackbot that had “newer” software. I think one of the features was to press and hold the cheat button to get into Casino Run immediately (think TZ LITZ cheat). Was that ROM version ever saved for others to put on their Jackbots?

#1071 10 months ago

My late production version with the scoops still rejects a fair amount, though much less than 50%. There have been several posts on Pinside both in this thread and elsewhere on modifications to help with the prototype games. From what I remember, most solutions involve careful placement of dense foam under the mask.

I recommend setting the game up just a little steeper and using old school black flipper rubber just like the game originally came with. The fancy titan style flipper rubbers shoot with more speed than the classic black rubber. For a more extreme suggestion... try a powerball and see if that sinks the shot better. I have a powerball for one (of four) in mine and for whatever reason that one has a much lower reject rate than the traditional steel balls.

I never thought Casino Run was really difficult enough to warrant a cheat. I wouldn't mind a Megavisor cheat though, just to play it after a too-long drought of not being able to get it.

There could be more things in the code that were adjusted/fixed. Who knows if it’s not distributed

Megavisor cheat is the dirty pool. Don't shoot for that last jack-bot until you have a ball trapped up ready to fire just as the visor starts to close. Megavisor is way too hard otherwise!

Please help identify these molex plugs in my Jack Bot harness if you can.

Were they used for factory testing of the playfield? My game is working fine, and these do not look like they were ever used. Thanks in advance, mk

Has anyone had an issue with the Moving Target Assembly not dropping fully when the Visor is opened? Mine usually stays slightly raised and makes it difficult to lock a ball. Other times, the ball actually gets hung up on the top of the assembly and I have to lift up the machine to shake down. I have cleaned the target assembly and the installation looks correct. Anything that can help drop the targets further down? Appreciate any insights...thanks!!

There’s gotta be a way to lower that assembly a little bit

#1083 6 months ago

Yes, I'll take another look at the arms and how the motor is mounted. It seems like this is not a prevalent issue. Thanks!

#1084 6 months ago

Mine will rarely hang up if the visor traps a loose ball that is not in one of the lock scoops. As you know, the machine will go into ball search after a few seconds to free up the ball. However, the ball will rest in the groove between the play field and the top surface of the visor and won't come down without a little nudge. A minor annoyance.

The alternative is to mount the visor a smidge lower, but then you end up with hang ups in the recess that will probably be more frequent. It's a little flaw in the game design. It rarely happens when I am playing (once in 100 plays kind of odds), but seems to be more frequent with more novice players.

There's a vid on Youtube that shows some kind of easter egg where it displayed a simulated fire rescue video mode. Anybody know how to get this to show up? The video seems to show it just appear out of nowhere as he begins tapping in the flipper keystrokes to get the WOPR animation. Louis Koziarz mentioned it in the comments but no info on how you get it to run.

#1091 5 months ago

Is there anywhere to get replacement drop target decals?

#1092 5 months ago

I can't try to verify right now, but the easter egg should be [20R, L, 5R, L, 24R, L] while in attract mode. I know I have done it on mine before. It can take several tries since these long button sequences are harder to accomplish than you would think,

Yeah that sequence runs the WOPR animation on my game, but not the fire rescue video mode thing that started running in the video in the middle of him tapping in the WOPR sequence.

Does anyone have pics of theirs with white or translucent rubbers so I can see how it looks? Trying to figure out which kit to order...

Factory rubbers were black, if you decide to go original.

Already done… see post #1016. I added multiple Daft punk tracks (including robot rock, around the world) but there are also additional artists and tracks as well. I plan on tweaking it again sometime in the future, but for now, the file works great. A Powered subwoofer is a must!

I'm sure this was posted somewhere, but here it is again, the promo video promoting Jackbot as a return to simpler gameplay:

A couple of unusual games for me recently...

First is that I received a SPECIAL on the slot machine. That's only the second time I can remember getting that award in several thousand games. It was on ball three of an exceptionally low score (under 200 mil) so maybe that figures into the logic. I always thought specials were worth 500 mil, but this one only awarded 200 or 300 so I've either been wrong all this time or the casino run special awards differently than the slot.

Second is that I had, by far, my best ball 1 ever. I completed the mega visor including the ramp for just shy of 8 billion. I cheated a little bit by doing the dirty pool. Unfortunately, I didn't do much with the next two balls and didn't get an EB on the game so ended with a disappointing total of just under 10 billion.

This promo video is great! I had not seen it before. The game shown is obviously one of the prototypes with the saucer style eyes, different colors on the casino inserts, alternate plastics for the ramp indicators, and no bride stickers on the drops.

Watching the video reminds me of how silly the cabinet art is. The play on Creation of Adam combined with the ridiculous robot arm wearing a cuff to partially conceal a cheating ace makes the cab one of the best from the era.
