Continuing with lighting. Going to work on the right side of the playfield as this area always appears to be very dark. Looking at the vault shot, very dark here and not much room to add lighting, but think I have figured it out. Mounting a light to the underside plastic appears to work.

Note, I forgot to post at the end of yesterday that I added strip lighting to the plastic at the lower left of the playfield similar like I did in the upper left.

Got the light attached and soldered in for the vault. Thought while I was in this location I might as well add a few lights to the underside of the ramp. Did a double flex style. Mainly wanted to do it now due to both of these added lights I will be powering off the GI lamp on the left side of the ramp. Got them both done, looks good!

Next area I am working on is the swamp. Have alot of ideas as I want to add a spot light for the playfield, two radioactive drums, pallet and lighting for the swamp itself. Also a light for the far red plastic. Let's see what I come up with.

20200408_153639 (resized).jpg20200408_153639 (resized).jpg20200408_153704 (resized).jpg20200408_153704 (resized).jpg

Got the first step done. Mounted the sockets for the swamp.

I am continuing with the swamp mod and lighting today. Found in my parts a round plastic that looks like will work for the underside for my pallet, radioactive drums and spot light. I am going to mount this farther to the right side of the playfield mainly over the shooter lane. This way the drums don't block any main view of the playfield and the drums will be in front of the spot light. Anyone thoughts on this?

Got interrupted for awhile, but back at it. Took a 555 LED appart, drilled a hole in the bottom of the drum along with two smaller holes in the back for wires and hot glued in the wires/LED. Looks cool lit up!

Great thread & thanks for posting! You are providing inspiration to those of us who have replacement TAF playfields. This will be a Fall project for me.

Finished with the swamp mod and testing. All lights work, ready and excited to see this installed! Note, the one drum is angled as it is sitting on a pipe. Thought this looked better than both of them sitting beside themselves.

No I don't, I was just referring to how much better the led boards look, the gold caps wouldn't light up like that

You could always keep the originals and put them back on if you ever sold it

#269 4 years ago

If you have an original gold be proud of what you have and leave it alone. If you want to start changing things get a spare.

I had 2 spares and sold both. Like dc2010 said, do all these cool things from this post but keep all org parts. Should not hurt value at all.

Today I am finishing up last details, installing the main ramp and adding last minute LEDS.

Do your original magnets not have the built-in fuses?

They appear not to, but if they do they are hidden from view.

Today I am doing last minute lighting mods and testing the machine and making any adjustments. Decided to add lighting to the two from scoops. There is enough room on the underside of the kick out coils to mount the sockets for the LEDs. Going to install slow color changer.

Well today I finished this project. Overall I think the project turned out excellent! Very happy with the finished machine. Have played a few games on it. Thanks for all of you that followed along and gave helpful tips and suggestions. I am posting a number of pictures and will do a video of it in operation later today.

Take care....and keep on flipping!

Quoted from fiberdude120:

Yes that's fine. They are EVO BriteCaps. I purchased them from Pinball Life. I really like them as they give great color to the top and have a number of cool white LEDS for down that really lights the areas around the pop bumpers.

#288 4 years ago

That machine looks like a million dollars.....

#289 4 years ago

Fantastic job. I followed this thread from beginning to end. Thanks for taking the time to do this and show us all the adventure. Hopefully when I start my Addams, I will send u a PM for advice and suggestions.

One more question, did you have any problems with any tight clearance under the ramp?

That playfield though! It looks like glass! Damn I miss playing pinbal!

A little bit due to the unique led pop bumper lights as they do raise the tops a bit, but overall didn't cause anything not to go together.

Thank you, I really enjoyed sharing the process with you all. I have done many and never posted the process. Only my close friends would see it, but they didn't see the details as I went through it.

Right now the next one I want to do is a Flintstones. I have owned this title before and sold it to a friend. I had acquired the cartoon cabinet decals, playfield overlay and back glass translight to convert the machine to all cartoon characters. I didn't sell this with the previous machine and knew I would look for it in the future. Right now I am on the look out locally to find one, but don't want to pay for a collector price one, but one that needs restoration. So keep tuned in once I find it I will post on this thread the new thread title for all to follow along.

Mike

Thanks for the time and effort to document your refurb and lighting upgrades... I have a TAF playfield swap on my todo list but I am just finishing up a Scared Stiff playfield swap and working on the lighting and have gotten some great ideas from your posts....

Do you mind telling me where you sourced your 6v LED strips?

Thanks

Jason

Hi Jason,

I sure enjoyed sharing my restoration process with all that followed. It was a fun process and a great machine to play now. The 6V LED strips I used in TAF were purchased from Pinsider Pinball Haus. His ad can bee seen here: https://pinside.com/pinball/market/shops/1026-pinball-haus/00674-6v-leds-strip-5050

Keep watching as I have the next machine I will be restoring and will be posting a link here soon. Have a few other smaller projects to finish up first before I get to this one. So stay turned in!

Here you go Mike I told you I would take a picture for you. It is not as purple as it looks and I only lit the bottom as I didn't want it as bright as yours. Thank you for all your help in this.
