It's so weird how Turbo2nr gets triggered by someone saying GZ is anything less than the greatest thing every created, ever.
It's like someone going off on somebody who doesn't like chocolate ice cream, or sex.
It's like...almost everybody does! You are never gonna get 100 percent on anything.
There are people who like Yoko Ono music.

Case in point... that 2012 Avengers pinball machine Pinside loves to poo on... is what got me back into pinball.

Well you know, in 1999 it kinda WAS the best game. Obviously subjective, but one could make a damn good argument based on earnings, art, gameplay, demand, etc.
20+ years later, of course there's better games now.

Not for me...I owned the AFM/MB/MM trilogy and MM was #3 for me. AFM ended staying the longest. When I rate a game, earnings/popularity doesn't really enter the picture...that's why I still own WH20 after all these years. For years, it didn't get any respect, but I still loved it. Really the only "upper PF" game I've ever taken a liking to.

    Quoted from guitarded:

Build a population center in the desert and you will have these issues. Nothing stopping AZ from impounding water either. Nothing but choice.
The CAP was never a solution for this problem. It was merely a patch for piss poor planning.

All of the west/southwest since the Cali aqueduct was built is based the the proposition that there would always be water flowing from the Rockies snowmelt.

if you have no water coming in, it does not matter how much planning and building of collection ponds you build. No water means no water. And whether or not the water planners are corrupt or as pure as driven snow, it won't matter. There will not be any water for fight over. And if there is no water, you move.

This drought has been going on for 22 years. Do you think Lake Mead and the rest of the western water sources will survive another 22 years of drought? What about 5 years?

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Can't they just take some that water out from the fountains at the Bellagio? They got plenty!

Levi, you may have discovered the Holy Grail . No more water problems. Let's just call up the owners of the Bellagio and ask them to turn on the taps. The owners are The Blackstone Group---but to think any Wall Street outfit would be generous enough to do that without some huge bucks coming its way---well, you got another think coming

Yes this is subjective, but in general polls, it was absolutely #1 back then. And apparently still #2 today.

Not sure where MB fits in this, other than being a popular fan-layout game. For me it's too repetitive and inferior to Eddy's games. Shadow/AFM/MM is the trilogy that matters. I bought my AFM in 1999, MM in 2000, Shadow in 2001. MM is gone but still have the AFM and Shadow.

I know nobody will ever be convinced, but Pinside still represents only a very small, die-hard portion of this hobby/market.

The last two years I asked customers at Pinfest that I had met for the 1st time a random question. "Are you on Pinside?" 80%+ responded with "No, what's that?". Several responded with "I was, but haven't been on that site in awhile". Got one with a 5 minute annoying story about how someone pissed him off after he asked a question. Luckily another customer saved me from him going off longer.

Pinside members are a small part of the hobby.

Stern was on the ropes for a while, but used game sales never slowed down and prices never dropped.
Source: was there and waiting on cheaper games that never appeared.

Used games were very cheap back then relative to today of course. People were still chasing the MM, MB, AFM, TOTAN, TAF etc. Not much choices then but Bally because the Stern new games were considered crap for the most part. Some decent ones.

Even around 2012-2014 ish I picked some “cheap pins” in NBAFB, WPT, INDY500, RS

From today’s altitude the risk/reward of up or down from here? I’d take the under

And I did not say anything about AZ impounding water. What I said was that for AZ, desalinization is not an option.

Actually, desal is definitely on the table for AZ... just not directly. Mexico is entitled to 1.5 million acre feet of water per year (California 4.4 maf, Arizona 2.8 maf, Nevada 300,000 af) and because of that, AZ is proposing to pay for desal plants down in Mexico which would offset Mexico's allocation of water off the Colorado. It would allow AZ to hold back more water on the river to be used in their own state.

    https://insideclimatenews.org/news/20032022/lake-powell-water-drought-arizona-desalination/

This wont happen overnight, but as the drought continues, you will start seeing more projects like this pop up. With California Coastal Commission's most recent denial of granting Poseidon Water a permit to build a $1.4 billion desal plant off the coast of Huntington Beach, CA I would not be surprised if we see a similar deal struck with Baja California in the coming years. California is the 5th largest economy in the world, I doubt they are just going to roll over into their grave without a fight..

Also, you will start seeing more projects that take cleaned wastewater, further treat it, and then use that water to recharge groundwater basins throughout the state. A good example of this is the Carson Regional Water Recycling Facility in Southern California. Once the distribution system is in place, the region in which I live will be very drought resilient.

whats also frustrating about the water getting sucked up in the southwest is all the countries outside of the US that have almost a million acres of crops.

Just one example is Saudi Arabia,

they killed their water table in 2014 so we sold them land in the southwest for Alfalfa grass and now millions of gallons go towards grass for cattle that arent even in the US. Again thats one example of dozens and yet hardly anyone is even aware of it. When 75% of Lake Mead is going towards agriculture and you hear that the US Farms are suffering, its amazing that the crops that are owned by other countries on US soil are doing just fine are kept hush hush.

People can ask whatever they want…are people buying? That’s the question.

Someone just listed a Metallica premium for 15K….his add is misleading…no pics and it says New Run Dirty Donny….WTF does that mean? They haven’t run Metallica for a couple years and he did the artwork on all versions…(Road Case was probably cut/paste from existing art owned by Metallica)….Pricing has just gotten stupid on a lot of things. If I don’t like the price of an item I simply don’t buy it.

    Good article. Thanks.

Translation: Water is going to get (more?) expensive.

My town started an aquifer recharge project about 5 years ago. And is also working to build a new water plant. We were told then that our super duper low cost water bills would be going up from around $20.00 per month up to $70.00/ month over of a period of a few years to spread the pain. Annualized, the price difference is $600.00 extra per year going towards water instead of my pin hobby.

I just got my annual increase. I'm up to $45.00/month now for 1500 gallons per month. Any water beyond the 1500 gallon base gets expensive.

Insanity ending? No, it's just getting started. I could see $15k maybe for a HEP TZ but one with a claim of being HUO and no pictures...yeah.

Call it the equivalent of a halo car.

And while you are drooling over TZ, but figure out it is not in your budget, he has some others that may interest you that are not quite as pricy. That is where the halo car concept comes in. A $15,000.00 TZ makes a $9500.00 Rolling Stones look like a bargain.

The market in my area is certainly leveling out with one exception, the A-tier games. Those are still commanding a nice price. I've been watching the market closely for about a year with a friend of mine. The A titles in this area are still going high. However; the absurdly priced games are just sitting untouched. The B & C titles appear to be what is leveling out. I just looked and there are a lot of them unsold. Some of them are reasonably priced. I've made numerous purchases recently and they were all much lower than I would have paid over the winter. My buddy bought two NIB games and they were below MSRP, which I haven't seen in about a year.

I've had no problems at all recently selling games for way more than "3 year ago" prices. I was kind of hoping everything would tank so I could buy the last couple games that I wanted. Oh well, maybe next year. LOL.

Recession is only going to get worse with potential 100 point rate hikes on the table. Real measurable inflation is about 16%. To "stop" that inflation will take 16% interest rates. Lol... people already can't afford new games ever since before the recession started. I'm afraid manufacturers will have to slow production or lower prices, otherwise downsize and cut staff. Pinball won't feed your family, or provide a roof over your head, or heat your home, or power your car to get to work.

    #346 1 year ago

I'm not sure if prices are coming down. However; the frenzy of buying has definitely slowed down. I keep tabs on a number of games that I want to purchase. Previously, I had to buy them as soon as they were listed. Now there's multiple ads for each game just sitting there. I'm patiently waiting for them to come down in price because they are still priced too high. Inflation and inventory availability have definitely made an impact over the last few months. There's still a lot of people who want to deny it, but it's happening.

I'm not sure you can count show prices. I watched someone talk a newbie into buying an Avatar Pro for $6,000 at a show. To paraphrase, he told them the price was going to continue skyrocketing because of the new movie. Some people just don't check machine value before they make a purchase. LOL

I think the "Flash to Bang" on new pinball machines is killing the industry some. Previously, there were lots of people who bought (almost) every new Stern, sold one of their old ones to fund it, and continued the cycle. Today, with 6 month to year long waits on games, people can't do that as their money is tied up with a game "on order" for months to years at a time.

I personally (minus my Weird Al LE Dream theme pin) am switching over to temporary trades. There are so many games out there I really want to explore. With 20ish Spike 2 games out, there is nothing stopping you from trading your Spike 2 for another one for 3 monhts, thean repeating the cycle. It would take me a decade to rotate through all of them at that rate, and it wouldn't cost me anything.

I think that the pinball industry as a whole will stick around, but I do see cutbacks, particularly in the number of manufacturers. I think we lose 2 or 3 manufacturers currently in existence over the next 5 years.

Why would you worry, you work there? Don't get caught up in Pinside group think. They'll sell as many of them as their other titles. Not like it was a make or break with a huge license.
