I have navigated to the pricing audits, verified "free play" is set to "no", chose .75/ 1 play, but still it boots up in free play. It has all original boards with the exception of a Rottendog driver board. CPU board looks nice and clean... no acid damage. Any ideas?

Quoted from YeOldPinPlayer:

Next step is factory reset. Page 1-23 in your manual, utilities menu U8, press Enter.

Thanks, should have mentioned that I have already tried that as well, no change.

Quoted from Fizz:

Another thought... Make sure it does not have the home ROM installed. That ROM is free play only.
(I don't have this game, so I may be wrong. But according to ipdb, there is a home ROM for this game).

Nailed it! Thank you sir! The issue had been close since I was wondering about the dip switches on the CPU before I saw the " G11 1.06b" (free play only) rom

Follow up on this thread. Turns out, 1.06b IS the version that has hacked to accept coin play. I did a "hard reset" (removed batteries and left unplugged for over 6 hours), then re-installed batteries, turned it on, and watched the display during bootup. It said it has version 1.06, NOT 1.06b as labeled on the rom chip. I ordered and am waiting for a "verified" 1.06b rom and will follow up once installed.

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

This is the first I've heard about this hacked ROM. Was 1.06 an update released far after the game shipped, like the TZ 9.4 release? I always thought it was an official one.

I have read up on this issue and discovered that v 1.06 is a factory update with many updates/fixes, but ONLY can be set to "free play only" regardless of changing settings to work on coins.

v 1.06b is the "hacked" version of v 1.06, to allow coins.

Follow up - received my “real” 1.06b and now the game works on coins
