Quoted from cmv040:

Yeah I assume something will happen. I believe Stern are good folks with good intentions to set things right. They are probably still scratching theirs heads on how to find/fix this problem. This problem also affects a small number of games I would assume. My frustration stems from costs, as I assume mosts do. If you spent 10K on a new car the dealership would bend over backwards to fix things under warranty. I contacted stern and they got back to me but nothing else yet. I will keep you guys posted. I love this game though, I have every intention of keeping it, hopefully with a fix.

Wrong, I'm afraid.

The problem is systematic, and I don't know why you believe they have good intentions or want to make things right when they knew this cheapening would have such results.

They're using cheap, soft, un-aged wood and don't appear to be allowing adequate drying and hardening time for the clear either. That and a host of other issues.

They're doing this because it's cheap and increases their margins. They're not going to go back to a much more expensive product which they previously used (which still would have been much cheaper than what's in JJP, HW and DP machines). So the problem isn't going to be fixed. There might be ways of making it less horrific, or the consequences appear less quickly, but it can't be 'fixed' without reverting to a more expensive product.

Quoted from Air_Pinball:

Nonsense. It cost them way more money to have to ship out new playfields than what they save. They will fix it 100%. They have to fix it to survive. It will not just be "less horrific".
You're a well known Stern basher. Time to give it a rest.

LOL.

You jump in to defend the indefensible on their part at every opportunity.

I criticise the patently indefensible. I don't hate Stern per se - else I probably wouldn't have a Luci or ST Premium - but what they're doing at the moment is appalling, and that people are allowing them to get away with it is even worse.

They were supposedly working on a fix when production was mostly halted for nearly a month, resulting in their highest production month in 10 years in August, yet 2-3 months later they're still shipping games in exactly the same state.

The cause is due to what I specified. If you believe that they go back to using a higher quality of materials, you're living in dream land. Have they gone back on ANY of their other cost saving measures, despite frequent outcries? The answer is a resounding no.

Quoted from Air_Pinball:

I said they would fix the problem 100%. You're making assumptions on the higher quality vs lower quality material.
We haven't seen the Premium runs yet, so you're being presumptuous.
Like I said, time to give it a rest. You continually regurgitate bile and negativity towards Stern, and it's just a broken record at this point.

I'm not making any assumptions about the wood. It's a fact. That's why the wood is very visibly different, that's why the durability is so low. It is an assumption regarding their clearcoating ... but an educated one.

So they're going to go back to better quality PFs for Premiums, replace all the LE PFs, and let the Pros continue with the current archetype?

Do you believe what you're typing? Not worth even talking to you.

Quoted from kpg:

Holy crap dude! Sorry to hear this... Hit up your distributor, Patrick Powers, and email Gary Stern himself and I bet they will work with you on this.

You missed the part where Gary threw a wobbly over whysnow not staying quiet about all their shit, and briefing against him and having him removed from any promotional opportunities.

So I doubt it.

Quoted from mittens:

ST:Pro - arrived June 2016 (mfg in June) and with 177 plays, noticed the clear coat is all chipping away by the ball trough.

I think that's going to happen on the vast majority of these games, just a question of when .. the wood is so rough and the streaks of sapwood in the shooter lane that I've seen in most look way too dark and soft to be being used for this kind of thing.

#597 7 years ago
Quoted from Mitch:

My metallica, mustang and sopranos zero shooter lane chipping, my GB LE lots and way less plays. Only major difference I see is the clear is way thinner on my older sterns and it's not chipping.

if it's not apparent in the shooter lane, look at the side of the pf or underneath ...

there's still some conflicting information, but some claim (still) that there are 2 pf suppliers. pretty sure churchill have been phased out entirely by now though. all the ones i've seen have soft, rough looking wood ... your one might 'just' have poorly applied / cured clear.
