Quoted from vid1900:Have you, yourself, ever been robbed of $5,000 in route to buy something?
I'm always armed, but I've never even had to draw my weapon in 1000s of cash transactions.
No, never anything like that; just thinking through the hypotheticals.
Quoted from Reality_Studio:You can always go look at the machine to make sure it's ok but without any money on you, then the two of you go to the bank together to deal with the cash transfer if you want to buy it. At a minimum that lets you know the person is real and actually is selling the machine without any money risk on your part.
That's a good idea. But I was thinking more about the road-trip case where you'd need to drive to another state to check out and possibly purchase an expensive pin. You can't get that much cash out of an ATM all at once, so you'd have to take the cash with you. Now you've set yourself up for various problems with theft or getting pulled over by the cops and them wondering why you have five grand on you.
