Good god, will this topic ever die?

Quoted from CaptainNeo:

TF is doing what it should be doing. As soon as you open the box, you lose money. That's the way it has always been. We have rare exceptions like spiderman, and Tron. But normally, buying a NIB is about as good as an investment as buying a new car.

In every other pinball time past, you would be 100% right. Problem is Stern now has a new business model and is trying to make a collectible pin. People don't buy "collectible" to lose money. The LE model is a unique concept as it is a home model, that is not stripped down ala Fireball, EK, or Alive. They have extra features, certificates, chrome, etc..... These pins are not expected to really go out into the wild like pins in the past. (Yes, there will be exceptions, but 90% will never see a quarter)

Tron and Spider-man were the some of the first pins to try the new LE model, which has been hit/miss so far as Avatar and RS have not appreciated much.

but the production numbers even on LE's are high. 500 isn't exactly that rare, and since every game that comes out has LE versions now, people have to pick and choose which LE's they want to keep. When you can get everything in a LE version now, it doesn't feel like LE anymore. Feels like home model and production model.

You are right as 500 seems like a low production run, but when you consider that 90% won't see thousands and thousands of play, most will still be around in 10 years and not have the depletion rate of ones that went into the wild.

LE's are getting more and more like different pins. X-men LE and X-men Pro as an example. Jury is out how much a Premium will effect the price of LE's.

Personally feel that if it wasn't for the Premiums on AC/DC- BIBLE and LTBR would be easily over 10k and climbing as they have a lot of added features over the Pro model. As it is now, they still have appreciated very nicely-

Before LE's (Tron, AC/DC), when was the last time a slightly used HUO pin appreciated more than what you could have purchased it NIB within 6 months of the launch? Not saying it is sustainable, or a bubble, just pointing out that it has never happened in pinball history before.

I have to agree with you there. Offering a LE on every game makes them less special to me too. If you are gonna do a full version and route version, just do premiums and let the orders tell Stern how many to make.

Just because you have a heated thread doesn't mean that's the sum-total of excitement over a title that overshadows all others. It just so happens a certain contingent of talkative pinsiders got XM. There was plenty of hype over TF, ACDC and even Avatar and Tron. I didn't notice any dramatic increase in interest for XM. It's just right now, everyone has XM fever. Wait until the next title comes out and it will pass just like it did with ACDC, TF, Avatar, Tron, and others.

Got to agree to disagree with you IMO TF did not have as much activity (on this site at least) as XM, ACDC, or TRON. XM had numerous threads (and maybe the biggest thread ever on this site near 6500 posts) with many different pinheads involved was much more activity than during the TF release. Just go back and review some of the threads before and even after the TF release there wasn't a crazy amount of activity that I can remember. But some of us just see things differently and that is okay.

TF LE Decepticon and Autobot 125 each are very rare models as such and will hold their value well.
Great package overall and and if updated software happens will be even better!

Transformers is a blast, worth every penny, and yes as mentioned by pinball help the fever passes. I clearly remover TF fever. I think TF had some negatives because of artwork being the first of stickers, but that remains unchanged. TF has lots of toys, action, shots, sound, love it

Wasn't my favourite game i've played but I agree with fireman, it does have a lot of bells and whistles. There was so much more potential with this theme that it should have been way better.

#110 9 years ago

I hated it at first, but loved the theme so much that I bought a pro. I'm loving it now...one of my favorite pins. I've added a few toys including Starscream DOTM and Mudflap legends on the right side above his target. I'll be adding LED's to them when I get some free time. Great game IMO.

Stern should have stuck to 99 of each, might have helped them shift another 50 or so of those Combos sitting on their factory floor.

Sure, it's a big fat "FAILURE".

(says the guy who wants to drive down the price so I can affford one)

750 le was too much for this theme unlike AcDc at 550 le

this game should have been 99+99+302 = 500 le tops

the extra 250 stuffed supply and demand therefore $$$

The game sucking ass didn't help much either
