Have been looking around and the nearest description to this I can find is "wavy hum bar." Hoping for someone to verify before I attempt a fix.

It's a fish tales with rottendog dmd controller and driver boards.

    Cheers.

Here's some photos of the issue which may be easier than the video link. It plays ok for a little while after turning on and then goes like this.

Really hoping someone can help, thanks in advance.

I think that's a ribbon cable problem. I think the wavy bar is a thin horizontal line that goes across the display and moves from the bottom to the top constantly. Like an old TV set that needs the horizontal adjusted

That's an odd one. I'd try a different Dot Controller in the game, after reseating the ribbons.

Thanks for the clarification. What makes you think this is a cable fault? The problem appears intermittently but jiggling/manipulating/reseating the cables doesn't bring on or remove the issue. Would be nice if it were something so simple but what I see doesn't seem to indicate that issue.

This problem exists with the original dot controller and dot driver boards as well as with new rottendog replacements. Reseating the ribbons doesn't help.

Ok. That leaves only the dot display itself.
Perhaps the row driver on the board is toast.
Swap in a known working display.

Ok, thanks. I only own one machine and have no access to spares unless I order and buy them. I was hoping for an easier and cheaper fix to be honest.

Your location isn't shown on your posts, but perhaps there is someone in the area that will allow you to take your display to one of their games. Any standard sized DMD (plasma, not LED) game can be used.

Just to be sure. Did you reseat them from CPU to DMD driver board, to DMD, all ends ?

    LTG : )

Yes I did several times and it didn't work. In desperation I then starting reseating dozens of connectors, even ones that didn't seem related. It then ran for about 6 hours with no problems.

Looks like the issue is close to being solved but the downside is trying to work out which cable or cables are dodgy.

Thanks to everyone for their assistance!
