Bumper (resized).jpg

I got this old Pink Panther working and put new rubber on it. I've been playing it for about 2 months and I noticed this is looking really worn. Also it fires super hard. It rockets the ball off that bumper. Second question: should that other thing actually spark when it makes contact? (See pics for details)

Thanks!

Spark is normal-ish. That wear is weird...

Maybe edges are sharp it fires hard maybe go with one size up on the rubber. But it should not wear like that.

Maybe it's junky rubber? Where did it come from?

Turn your rubbers inside you, you get more use out of them

Looking at the pic I have to think either the rubber is too small and being stretched enough the edges of the kick-out are cutting it or, I thought it might have had a larger (more powerful) coil installed prior to your purchase with the results same as the small rubber.

It could be. I got this machine very busted from a hoarders garage for $100. The bag of "new" rubber was in the body. I have no idea when he got them so maybe that's it.

I'm going to order a new one for the bumper and see if that one lasts longer.

Thanks

They look a little old but I didn't want to insult your rubber(?!). Maybe NOS rubber so it's splitting easier.

It was probably a few years old...

Old rubber tends to be yellowed, and when flexed, shows wrinkles. New rubber will be white and smooth.

Slingshot rubber can wear like that. Just move it about a half inch down the loop and you're good for another couple of months :p

It might have been old, too, it does look like dry rubber.

Looks like either old or crap rubber. Order some from Marco Specialties. They have the best white rubber by far of anywhere I've found. Dunno who or what they sacrificed to get the quality of rubber they sell, but you'll like it, and it will last.

2 issues:

1) "it fires super hard" - as RWH suggests, do you have the proper coil installed there? And it should match the other slingshot coil, which presumably is not firing "super hard"? Proper coil is A-1496 per P.P. manual
example: http://www.pbresource.com/Blackhole.html#coil
http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/A-1496

2) rubber wear - covered well above; old (even if previously un-used) rubber is my guess too.

Good grief, why all the downvotes?

That's how they work sometimes.

Probably a mistake, give him the benefit of the doubt.

Balanced that out for you

#19 6 years ago

I would be more concerned about the playfeild wear.
