Doing a PF swap on my Medusa with a CPR gold PF. Its had several months if not years to cure.

Had the PF upside down for about 3 days installing the ground wire, and other stuff.

Flip it over today and notice a bunch of cracking around the inserts.

Is this expected to happen? And if so, so soon?

Nothing?

With a thread title like this I'm surprised CPR's customer service team hasn't jumped in yet

Not trying to stir things up, just want to know if this is now considered the norm.

Lol. Really?

I don't see it.

How can you not see it? It doesn't look normal to me.

If you do a bit of pounding and stapling near the inserts it can happen.
It can also happen anyway regardless of that but if you didn’t notice before you started building only after it could be from the building process.

I have seen it right out of the box and also not until after assembly so it can go either way. One of the many reasons I have gotten away from stapled braid on playfields.

Is it possible that the adhesion sanding before clear coating the pf is the reason for this and if so harmless in that case, meaning not cracked clear just scratched insert plastic?

Were they there before you put the t-nuts in? Hammering the pf can do that.

CPR isnt crap, best playfields Ive swapped, buthamberg being next. Only ones that are crap is mirco, clear coat cracks and peels so easy its a joke.

God forbid an airball comes down on a insert and knocks it into the cabinet

#12 5 years ago

If you look at some of High End Pins posts, you will see that this isn't that far out of the norm unfortunately...

#13 5 years ago

Crud. So how do you go about attaching the braid and pounding the t-nuts?

I’m really uneducated “learning “ so please don’t mind my question. But is that the clear coat separating from the play field or actual play field damage?

#15 5 years ago

Thanks i'll go check them out. Still learning about restoring pins, much harder than vids.

I use a t nut tool to pull those in and I use two lead sockets so I don’t have to use bare stapled wire.

This might highlight that but it has been a while on Medusa specifically.

Chris I'm not sure if you have posted in your threads, but I know from watching you that McCune? turned you on to a tool he made to insert the T-Nuts? Would you be willing to show what parts the tool consists of and how you instal them without a hammer? Might help save a few playfields?

Ever think of emailing CPR to discuss the issue before you make such a moronic, idiotic post?

Just asking, I'm not trying to stir anything up.

There was just the exact type thread recently.

Consensus was its normal and your screwed. If you wanted perfect you should have sent it out for a reclear before starting. (not my words)

Read here. Small cut and paste directly from Kevin.

"OK guys, let's just call it official and finally move onto the electron microscope as a standard here...
This has to be the most close-up photo analysis I have ever seen on our playfield inserts, to date. To the point that if CPR is going to be called out, I have to now demand galleries posted of 1-inch inserts as dinner-plate sized pix, of ALL current playfields being sold today. Stern. Jersey Jack. Chicago Gaming. Mirco. All of them."

Full thread here.

Lol, all this early snow is really getting to us AB guys.

Something to think about. Wood will give/bend a little when hammering on it. It it's close to an insert there is a good chance of this happening. Also if the glue for any reason is a little weak in that are it wont help much.

#26 5 years ago

My Bad Cats PF says neither.

#27 5 years ago

Is this due to the epa making the clear formulations different? If so what a pita

I had numerous disappointing issues with my CPR gold Medusa play field. My first suggestion is you make sure if the play field is even the right size... They had some frustrating issues with Medusa.

Chris, I don’t want to sound like an idiot but want to make sure I understand, you use 2 lead sockets and run a loose ground wire from socket to socket? If that is so, are there any issues that arise that I have not thought about yet?
Thanks for the info, if I am thinking this correctly it might make changing the SS Playfields more user friendly for me!

Yes
No issues the main thing is about mapping it out so the leads don’t touch or get in the way of other parts.
I have probably detailed it in a few Restoration threads.

Can also be done with single lead sockets using screw terminals

Actually the title screamed “False dilemma” to me.
