I have little experience with the alphanumeric displays on Funhouse, Harley Davidson, High Speed 2. I finally got around to working on a Funhouse I picked several years ago. The top display panel is dead, bottom works fine. I replaced the 160v 150uf cap and the 39k Resistors at R48 & R49 on the display driver board then flipped it over to at that point find that the top display looked… for lack of a better word fried.

If you have had experience with bad display repair.

1. Is this top display cooked?
2. What likely caused it?

This is not the original top display, so someone either replaced the prior bad display with a shitty one they had laying around OR something in the machine fried the first… and now the second.

It looks like it has gassed out to me. Very common with plasma displays.

Quoted from Alwaysbrokenpins:

2. What likely caused it?

It's a 42 year old high voltage gas plasma display: Old age.

Should be replacement LED options available. Find part number in manual and google. LED displays aren't cheap, but they look very much like originals and are low voltage, so will probably last 80 years.

Oh yes, it is cooked. Those displays loose their gas over time, and stop working. Get an LED replacement.
