Hi,

I just started researching this issue with my RoboCop where the display appears garbled.

I am not sure if this is what out-gassing looks like or if this is could be a different issue that is repairable?

Anyways, I thought I'd post some pics and see if anyone in the community has seen this and can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

That is fixable. It is trying to light up and i don't see any burnt segments.

Start with checking the display voltages to make sure they are in the proper range. Could also try a new ribbon cable between MPU and display. If that looks good have the MPU and display repaired by a reputable person.

Just pulled the board out and looks like it has had some work done. While it still might be repairable, I was thinking about buying a rottendog replacement. Thanks.IMG_20150719_151847_184.jpgIMG_20150719_151847_184.jpg

First try flipping one end of the ribbon cable 180 degrees. Looks like it's on wrong on one end.

Wow, I feel silly. Could have sworn I checked the cable position after I checked the voltages, but guess not. That did the trick. Thanks Kris!

If getting a replacement display for future use I would recommend X-Pin. Rottendogs work great but the contrast on those leaves much to be desired, plus X-Pin also provides custom cut light blocking foam to improve visibility.

Here are the after shots of the display working perfectly with switching one end of the ribbon cable.
