I'd definitely fix it as well for my own games. For someone without the experience, I would suggest buying a replacement for reliability and to get the game going - but then either send out the old one or fix in your spare time as a backup. If it is beyond your skill level, sell as a parts board to offset some of the cost of the replacement. I do the same thing with display boards that have two or more players outgassed.
