yep. if you take a close look at your DMD, you'll notice that the "pixels" are all groups of 16x16 blocks. when they are assembled and wave soldered, some of the blocks shift a bit and as a result the spacing between every "dot" isn't uniform.
it's more noticeable when there's a bigger gap than normal between 2 blocks, but there's nothing you can really do about it.
It is pretty standard for a DMD, but if you don't like it, give em a call.
The worst they are gonna do, is say no.
Standard DMD - Keep it you never know what box of problems you could get if you get a new one. (my replacement was not so good)
Quoted from flashburn:No, as we have all said, there is nothing wrong with it.

If it bothers you, your best option is probably to wait until ColorDMD releases the SIGMA displays for Stern machines. With those, there are no grid lines, and you'll be able to choose what color you want it to be.
I've heard that some people have gently shifted the LED blocks around until they are aligned perfectly. That sounds like a lot of work with risk of damaging the display for minimal gain. My MET display is much worse than that one.

Where have you heard this? Are the blocks attached to the board via pins? Even with alignment corrections the space between the modules is different than the space between pixels of the same module right?

I believe the blocks are similar to the 8x8 in this link and are 16 pins:

My eye for detail is crazy its a curse and gift at the same time.

Or wait for Homepins new LED DMDs which are all made as one unit (ie no grid lines)
Homepin told me yesterday they aren't too far away.

I know how you feel.
Im the same with eveyrthing I build and it can drive me bonkers!

Eye for detail???? What detail did you point out? You thought it was a defect,,,, no pointing out the detail there, Just misjudging something.

HomePin is one big joke wagon. Will not be buying anything from them.

Homepin - specialists in customer service / threats / calling people idiots:
"Above all else DO NOT start a PayPal dispute before contacting me
You will find me very easy to get on with and I will do
everything I can to help. Don't listen to the idiots at
PayPal who will encourage you to open a dispute - that WILL NOT
help at all - it will annoy me and I will spread your name through
the pinball community as one who abuses the PayPal system and you
will be the loser in the end as many suppliers will not deal with you.
If I have any further trouble with the minority of idiots who
blindly trust PayPal I will stop taking it and that would make
it difficult for some overseas enthusiasts to get a part that may not be
available anywhere else.
I guess the bottom line is if you don't trust me and suspect I won't
send the goods then don't buy from me - problem solved!"

Those do look like the same blocks, and looking at the datasheet, the spacing would line up consistently if all the blocks were pressed against each other.

I personally would still go with ColorDMD and hope that a multicolor ROM would be available in the future.
