As a tech, I can tell you I often steal Q8 off a whitestar board in the field. That's because it's the right type of transistor for the higher powered solonoids that often fry, but it powers something that doesn't exist in most games. Someone was in the field, needed the type of transistor Q32 is, and stole it off of an "unimportant" flasher, so they could make the game work otherwise.
