    Naphtha is more of a rare event cleaning solvent when you want to get everything off. I wouldn't use it for regular cleaning as you take up any wax in the process; it will leave your playfield the most vulnerable because there won't be anything between your ball and the playfield. Your GF has the right idea of spraying the Novus 1 on the rag first, not directly on the PF.
