Love it, deep code, if that’s your thing you can’t do better. Subjective taste, ain’t for everybody.

Played it at this past TPF about a dozen times and thought, "Pretty machine, but meh".
Took one on trade the other day, and played it only after studying the rules, and its a new machine for me. I'm still learning, but at least I have a clue what's going on now. I look forward to playing it now.
I agree the "thugs" that you fight at the top shot look rather silly on-screen. They were my first negative impression of the machine. You don't really have much time to look at them, which in this case is a good thing. These "thugs" look more like used car salesmen than mafia henchmen . YMMV...

Pretty sure there is a setting in the menu to turn them off.

Yes, there is.
Not a very good game in my opinion. Great looking, but the theme, shots, and videos just don’t sync together, very well was not a “fun” machine in my opinion. Lacked flow, seemed clunky. Played five games throughout the day at SFGE in Atlanta.

Can appreciate not liking theme or theme integration but the game is anything but clunky. Must of been playing a poorly set-up or made machine.
I like it more than I thought I would. It has some quirks. Some of the sound effects truly don't work in this game. I think using their own staff for the bad guy animations was a terrible idea. I doubt they were trying to do it to save money, I think they thought that using non actors would work to represent gangsters, but it just doesn't work, they look terrible. Yes, you can turn it off, but it's a missed opportunity to have something better.
Most importantly, it feels much more like a generic gangster pin than it feels specific to the Godfather. Which I am ok with, but I'm sure other people aren't.
However, it has a lot of truly great moments. As bad as some of the sound effects are, others are amazing (eg: The spinner). Every aspect of the artwork and lighting is amazing. I enjoy the unique layout and all the diverters.
I originally felt like the code was somewhat lacking, and I still feel this way to a certain extent, but as I've learned the game more, I've come to realize that it has more than I originally thought. I do hope that they add a bit more depth to it though.
If I was a huge Godfather fan and this was a dream theme for me, I would probably be pretty upset. But for what it is, it is a solid game.

I also thought the game was too generic, but since owning and rewatching the movies have done a 180.
Beyond obtaining the likeness and voice rights to all of the major actors, which is almost unbelievable, and including them beautifully throughout the artwork, the main imagery of the movie is well represented in the Compound, Don’s office (Brando is literally sitting at his desk on the CE playfield), Fountain, NYC skyline, horse-head and Brando sculpts, and art blades.
They’ve also included a ton of key footage and dialogue from the movies throughout the modes and other parts of the game. I wish the opening scenes to the modes were a little longer but they did a great job of showing the conclusion of the scene when you complete the mode. You can only look up at the LCD for so long without slowing the game. And adapting the turnpike shooting scene into the match sequence is fantastic. Really not sure what more they could have included. Offhand can’t think of another movie pin that has more - but can think of many popular titles that have far less.
Agree that using their employees as the bad guys was a mistake, and some of the bad guy call outs are cringe worthy, but like you said they can be easily toned down or turned off. Combined with the caricature bad guy sculpts they just conflict with the serious, refined nature of the movies. But they are very well done and overall it’s a minor issue to me given the surrounding stuff and rules that are so true to the franchise.
The multiballs can also be heavily toned down in the settings to focus more on the jobs which are the core of the rules and scoring. It’s definitely a harder game that above average players will most appreciate.
This was obviously another labor of love for Eric that deserves exploring before taking an outspoken, definitive position.

Good point about the multiballs. I tend to leave the difficulty settings alone, but for this pin I did increase the difficulty of the multiballs. And I'm ok with that, that's the beauty of having so much configuration. They probably should have made the default multiball settings a bit harder, only because it does make it easier to do apple-to-apple comparisons of my scores vs other people's scores playing different machines, but that's nitpicking
I had absolutely ZERO interest in this game until I played 1 game at Expo. It then lived in the back of my mind for a bit and I watched some gameplay videos and realized there was just something about the way it felt and shot that I had to have it. I have no ties to the films but the theme is cool enough in my book. I traded an EHOH with shooter rod and a little cash for a LE NIB and I'm very happy with my decision. Just last night my lady said "You know, when you first mentioned you wanted this game it took me by surprise and honestly I didn't understand WHY, but after spending a few days with it I am so glad you got it."
Quoted from cookpins:It's not for me, several locations nearby with it and I opt to not play. Even at the one that has it on 3 for $2. I'll caveat this with the fact that I don't care for most JJP games. DI is probably the one I've had the most fun playing. Also, in my opinion, the JJP rainbow light show looks like an absolute joke with the rest of the package. Cringeworthy.
The only time I see the “rainbow” light show is when someone’s mocking it online. You should play it and tell me the LEDs are sub any other pinball manufacturers.

It happens during attract for sure. I’ll be honest I can’t recall if it does during gameplay. I’ll have my wife play it next time we see one and observe, she’s way better than me at it.
JJPs LEDs are great, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think rainbow colors, or the majority of the colors on the rainbow, belong with this theme.
Godfather CEis a great pin in a home collection. The topper is insane on Godfather mode. You will learn to use the multiballs at certain times to rack up the most points during a job. Light show is amazing . The gold glitter in the playfield makes it pop. 29 ball paths are wild. You never know were the ball is coming from. Just hope they finish the code and put in Kiss the ring. Hope don’t wind up like pirates with no final wizard mode.

Is that the fountain at the Villa in Sicily in that photo? Is that why the exploding car (that killed Michael's first wife) is in the art work next to it? I'm trying to understand why that fountain/caldron is in the scene...
