What do you folks think? Is it fixed, is it solid, does it have all the wizard modes, etc? (Bowen's tutorial didn't go into code completeness).

Shields don't do anything in the Pro, but everything else is great, right?! Kobayushi Maru Multiball, Vengeance Multiball, Klingon Multiball, the mission mode grid are all in. Captain's Chair?

-Wes

#4 10 years ago

Pretty close. There are some bug fixes I'd like to see, but I think all the major features are in there. Some effect for the shields would be appreciated.

We're closer to a zombie apocalypse.......kidding.

#6 10 years ago

It needs a another major release to be "finished"..... and then after a long drought......a Lyman 2.0 polish.

#7 10 years ago

codes are never finished of stern always options

#8 10 years ago

Nope still more polish and other items to go in, plus as others said the shields do nothing. I expect many more updates on this title. and yes............ CODE is never finished

Pin has been out less then a month & you're asking if the code is finished?

#10 10 years ago

nah , i saw triple jackpot screen animations when bowen was playing , with no sound effects or voice , hopefully that will get implemented

#11 10 years ago

Needs more depth to the combat code with the Vengeance. The Vengeance should be be able to virtually fire back at you, like the player does with the Punch It button. The shield targets would be integrated into that conflict.

#12 10 years ago

maybe the LE will come with another/new update. it's going to be different that's for sure,.

#13 10 years ago

When is the last time a Stern release has been finished before all models shipped or within a month of being released? No not finished strong start but still a ways to go we don't even have a ball save when shield targets are hit yet.

Quoted from Part_3:

It already has this when you hit the ship in multiball the kickback rockets the ball back fast as hell.

Captain's Chair modes are NOT there, just some mini rewards.
I hope this game is a LONG way from done. As it stands it does not feel like a complete work at all.

Recent titles would include TRS, IM and BBH.

Shallow rules = complete code when shipped. Be careful what you wish for.

Well some I guess would call them complete within a month of their release but honestly I don't think I would. Besides I didn't wish for anything but rather stating the obvious given the track record that the code is not or I hope is not anywhere close to finished.

Which ones? None had major changes after a month. Just minor bug fixes and polish. I haven't owned any of them, but I've played all three plenty on location. All were fun from day one, although too shallow for long term enjoyment IMO.

Other than WOF, their track record is fine IMO. And I'm sure Keith will finish that some day.

Re-read my suggestion. I said VIRTUALLY shoot at you.....like the players attack using the Punch It button.

That makes combat the same both way...with balls and virtual/photon/phaser attacks. Here, the shields and the shield targets could come into play with creative code.

#22 10 years ago

Virtually shoot at you ... like a video mode? Its been a long time since we had a video mode in a recent Stern. I'd like it, though I know some would hate it.

It's like how you can hit the Punch It button now when you have weapons charged, you cause damage to the Vengeance. Shouldn't the same be in reverse? Shooting the ball out super fast is very cool, but it's not something that is going to interact with your shield level.

Personally I love video modes. Yea it stops the flow but it's nice to take a quick break for some entertainment. TSPP, IJ, AFM and many more have great vid modes.

Yeah dude, I am. When do you REALLY think there will be another update? My guess is Stern is now focusing on the next pin and will drool out ST updates just like they did for XM, Metallica. If you asked Stern if the code was 'Finished', would their answer be different than yours?

I dunno, this update seems to be larger than previous updates that came quickly after release. I really hope they keep the pressure on to finish it off, but their track record and 2nd and 3rd revisions is not great, as we all know.

I think what he's saying is interactive play while the ball is still live. For example, a mode where the vengeance is on the DMD shooting lasers at you, when it hits you, the game shakes and your shields deplete a little. You, the player, need to be making shield target shots to keep your shields up and hit the power up targets to charge your weapons and fire! Would be a bitchin interactive mode. Could take it a step further, the longer you wait and charge your weapons more, the stronger your lasers would be. But, you'll take more damage so gotta keep those shields up! Love it!

It's a cool risk/reward idea, and may help address the unlimited number of torpedos issue that folks are complaining about.

So...like STTNG when you are in Borg Multiball and the Borg shoot at you and drop your shields and you need to hit the spinner to relight.

YES! this is exactly what I am hoping this turns into or some form of battle while the ball is in play. It must be the intent since shields have there own target and light up on apron on the LE. I mean why put all that work into something and not do anything with it. Really hope this pans out like how you describe Eskaybee.

#30 10 years ago

Yeah! You guys get it!

#31 10 years ago

If you run out of shields and hit points for the Enterprise, the flippers could go dead, draining your balls.

I said balls.....

#32 10 years ago

Now lets hope it pans out! I have faith though Steve and team wont let us down!

#33 10 years ago

What if they put Kahn on the DMD and he would talk during the mode. Then say, I've had enough...fire! If you survive his attack he could say something like 'impressive'. He can continue to taunt but when you fire your cannons the DMD animation could kind of shake with the vengeance ship and he would stagger a bit on the animation to show you hit him and he could say something else. Til one of you are defeated.

Yes, they really need to add Khan to a Vengeance mode. You can't just have Admiral Robocop.

I'm sorry but their track record most definitely is not fine. X-Men was not fine for almost a year after release while being almost unplayable initially and still is not complete, Metallica code is also taking a while and there are some issues there that need to be addressed, TF had some major problems early on and took an unreasonable amount of time to get right. Sorry that is not a fine track record especially on recent releases. To each their own I guess.

#37 10 years ago

I have a BBH (one of those games mentioned) and it indeed was complete on arrival. Couple post-release updates for bugfixes.. last one was more of an OS bugfix. Their track record then was pretty good. Now, they need to update Metallica and maybe tweak Xmen and they should be caught up. ST 1.3 is a good release, but not quite polished and finished.

#38 10 years ago

No, there will be another update. Could be a long time coming.

Back then, Lonnie & Lyman were working together on code. They we're split up starting with TRON. Its no wonder code takes longer now. If they produce a game with an over the top theme (zombies?), Ritchie designing, and Lonnie/Lyman tag teamming the code...they would sell millions!

#40 10 years ago

Does new code support a shaker motor?

Here's a little FYI message to the Star Trek supporters out there:

"Please be patient, it's all going to happen."

Have a nice day. back to work i go

Considering how recently this title came out, the code is remarkably far along.

<<yepper this title be fantastic when complete>>

If it gets completed, it will be due to Steve Ritchie's games having the best chance because he actually fights for good code work from his team. Other designers have a track record of "design a whitewood and walk away" (I'm looking at you, Borg). Those days should be long over.

I'd suggest thinking that all code is finished when you get the machine, and then being pleasantly surprised with any updates. From what I've heard, ST is already great, so if nothing else comes, enjoy what you've got!

Urban power pack coming so at least there is one more update guaranteed. Hopefully polish after that. Going to be epic.

Tron was a Borg game....and got a massive update long after everyone thought it would.
