I didn't think it was that bad when I owned it. It does need some extra lighting, and few tweaks to make the upper playfield switches reliable. I liked the game, the music, the art and the attitude. Is it the best game ever, no. But it is fun for what it is. It is hard which probably turns some people off who just like to play it safe on fan layouts and guaranteed ball returns.
