Upon startup my Starship Troopers it gives the normal beep but its 50/50 whether or not the sounds continue to play. If the sound does continue to work, it normally goes out within a minute. I noticed the general illumination relay starts shotgunning when this happens. I've read that this could be a symptom of the board resetting. However, absent the sound and the annoying GI illumination issue, I can continue to play a game. If it were truly resetting would I be able to continue a game?

Thanks!

Not resetting. You have a bad connection somewhere. Reseat all your connectors on all the boards in the backbox including the ribbon cables. You don't need to completely remove the connector just pull up half way and reseat.
