Going back and rerating anything doesn’t make sense IMO.
This argument makes no sense to me. In the 80’s I got to drive an ‘84 Vette for about 6 months. I was 16, I would have rated it 10 out of 10. Fast forward 35 years to the sweet C8 Vette which is a million times better than that ‘84 Vette. Should I still rate that old ‘84 as a 10? It still has a special place in my memories, but no, it’s not realistically a 10.
That's exactly the point though -- if you continually rerate machines based on what came out this year, or next year.. etc.. and you consider technology improvements to make games "better", games would be derated just becuase LCD's or deep code are 'the thing' now. That doesn't make sense to me - MM still has great dots, even if LCD's are the "thing" now. It shouldn't lose rating points because technology has changed. The code isn't deep like today's games, but it's still really good. 90's WMS games shouldn't lose rating points over time - if a game is truely better as it stands by itself, then it should knock the 90's games down the list just by getting top ratings, not thru derating older games.
But that's just my take on the system. I can see your point, and a rating system that works like you see it as well. It's just kind of two different takes on it.
