Cost of living, taxes, and traffic (before COVID) are not worth it.
The views, peaceful landscapes, mountains, beaches, palm trees, accessibility, and of course the weather is well worth it.
If my wife didn’t work for the state, we would probably move out of state. But, then we talk about the what if’s, and can’t agree or find a place better to live than so cal. AZ, NV, TX...no thanks, too dry, too hot. Maybe Colorado?

I grabbed that still (from above) off of my GoPro the other week as I was paddling back out.
Tues, Wed, Thurs last week was easily two/three feet bigger than above pic and even cleaner conditions if you could believe that.

After doing some real thought we did some math. Something else to consider is travel for holiday visits. The hassle of air travel, hotels, and rental cars. Boarding our pets. We figured out that traveling from TN back to CA for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year runs about $2K a trip or $4K a year for just those two. Over 10 years that's $40K. Add in more for the occasional funeral and it can get pretty pricey.
My wife spends approx $40/week on Starbucks. $2k/year. Over 10 years, that’s half your trip, or two stern LE’s. I’ve come to the conclusion that math sucks.
