The school board president of our district just said last night he will likely keep the schools closed for the entire school year. So, distance learning all year. Are you kidding me? The school year just started.

The CA Teachers Association and the school boards are basically locking arms and refusing to go back to work. Apparently these assholes have deemed themselves non-essential and do not care about the kids, who are suffering big time. And don't get me started on the indoctrination.

Just one of the countless gripes I have with CA.

You think teachers wouldn't much rather teach in person? My wife is a teacher and every teacher we know would love to be back in person if they thought it was safe. She's currently working 12+ hour days to make distance learning the best it can be. The teachers know it sucks, but they also know there is no way to keep 20+ 5 year olds from climbing all over each other and passing whatever germs they have on.

    THIS THREAD WON'T FUCKING DIE

While ago, my local 6 o'clock news, all the way here in GA, talked about fires in CA for 8 minutes, and the 2035 car thing for another 3 minutes. (ABC network).

I have never been in CA except for one time for 5 days, and it was AWESOME!

And everyone I met in CA was AWESOME!

(I am happy right where I am at, I never plan to move anywhere, but I enjoy this tread, and I hope to visit CA again someday).

We can always make fun of all the crazy stuff that always goes on in FL, but I take any CA news a lot more serious.

It was just crazy to see footage of all the horrible fires for 8 minutes, and then a 3 minute story about 2035 car stuff.

I wish not only everyone that lives in CA the best always, but everyone on this planet I wish the best always.

But ya NorCal we yanked the kids out of public school so damn fast and went to home schooling when we learned about the sex education to very young children thing they’re doing now...it’s just...gross

Kids' immune systems are very robust against Covid. This is a known fact. It's a non-issue for them. I can't see the sense in teachers saying "it's for the kids' safety". More likely they don't feel safe themselves.
And I would ask them whether they feel they are essential or not because essential workers have been working this whole time.

I feel your pain. My favorite aunt is not doing well at all right now and in the hospital, and my Mom has such bad memory loss I sometimes have to answer the same question 3 times in 5 minutes.

I hope you, me, and everyone can always have the best life possible.

And things can get crazy really fast, and just change your whole world upside down.

I have been in bad times, in the past, I know those pains.

The last 2 years of my Dads life I helped take care of him in his hospital like bed, in the den of my house. We took care of him here, he never went to a nursing home or any of that.

From Strokes my Dad was basically paralyzed his last 2 years, could not stand up at all, in a bed in my den, with nurses coming by daily for diaper changes and baths, etc.

Before that Dad was blind for 20 years from diabetes.

I am so sorry your Mom has cancer.

Luckily most things do get better, even though sadness will also be nearby.

If everyone could just stay positive as possible, and try to help others, AND try to help someone to smile, it helps a lot.

(and this belongs in the confessional but I will say it here now: When my Dad passed I never shed a tear. He had been blind for 20 years, and the last 2 years not only was he 90% paralyzed from strokes and could not even get out of bed, but also the last 30 years he had Mainers Disease, and was constantly sick like full blown food poisoning kind of sick.

My Dad had a very strong will to live, and as sick as I seen him for years I never understood it, for me if I was that sick I would be wanting to pass on.

Dad was awesome! He raised me great and taught me skills that I have made a career out of!

Anyway, sorry for the long rant.

I love to come here and joke around and try to help someone to smile, because I suck at working on games, so I am no help there.

2020 has really sucked, but I am so glad we have Pinside, this site and 99% of everyone here is awesome!

And the other 1% that is always negative maybe just needs a hug also?

And not the confessional but I will confess I am not a "huggy" person in person, so I do like the fist bump and we stay 6 feet apart.

And again, I am so sorry to hear about the cancer. If there is anyway you can, help with her in your den, like I helped with my Dad.

Nursing homes suck, if you can help at all never send a loved one there.

And like I said, a awesome nurse came to my house the last 2 years of my Dads life to help with him.

Sorry for the rant. But I hope it helps someone here. Life can suck as we get older.

Agreed. Both my boys are home with online school. Also, kids do spread this crap to adults. Both my boys spread it to us. After the usual seizure caused by high fever, they got over it in a couple days with headache and loss of smell/taste. Me and my wife were sick for 2 weeks...fortunately recovered. My point...while we are in close contact with the boys, kids will likely spread this crap to the teachers in no time. I do feel bad for the essential workers forced to deal closely with the public. It's an all-around mess.

Really? I haven't heard that in our district. They should all be ordered to go back to work, and if they refuse they lose their jobs....its a fucking joke ....and we have the worst governor in the country who is in bed with the teachers union.

    #615 35 days ago

I'm sure it's district to district.

Ours is so full of ineptitude and nepotism that they all just drank at home instead of one of the local bars since last march and never bothered to plan past the bare minimum. The District has semi powerful tools in schoology and Office 360, but none of them bothered to learn to use them or set them up correctly.

Last year one teacher decided to set up class using zoom, but his union shut him down. It was resolved for this year, but it's the only class doing group instruction on video. The rest of the teachers throw up assignments without any real instruction. Most assignments are in PDF format, but the school supplied laptops don't have acrobat installed, so they can't just fill it out like a form (doubt the teachers could create a PDF like that) or make text comments. Teachers can't write an assignment in word format to save their lives. I swear they just keep hitting tab to space questions out and then ask the students to type their answers which then screws up the entire sheet. Keep bragging about that masters degree though...

Sorry for the rant. And being OT, but school hits a nerve. lol

I literally just said that the teachers I know at least are having to work longer hours to do distance learning. So yes, of course they are essential. I don't know why folks have decided that somehow teachers stopped working when they went to distance learning when the opposite is actually true.

It's clear that you and other posters in this thread aren't interested in reality but just want to bash teachers. I'm not going to waste any more time.

I think that most teachers would rather be back at work, and from what I can surmise it varies widely by district and county. I'm not saying that some are not working their ass off. What I'm saying is if the teachers union (at least in Cal) is refusing to go back to work than theres a serious problem, and they should all be fired. Life is full of risks, and choices...each teacher can make their own personal choice..if they think its too risky than they can quit and do something else. Clearly they shouldn't be paid for doing nothing.

Exact opposite actually. Grandfathered in petrol vehicles will sell for a premium here because they are here
If this ban is still on the books come 2035, you can expect a tremendous surge in sales here (especially trucks) right before it goes into effect.
Also, millions of cars will be imported from other states by consumers, flippers and dealers anticipating the ban
    It’s a joke

Wow... I had no idea... I guess I will continue normal maintenance on my F150. Maybe the estimated value of my truck will increase if I just keep it running and maintained. Its a year 2000 vehicle, so in 2025 I will be eligible for an antique car tag that costs $25 in my state. I like that price. That kind of offsets any unanticipated maintenance that might come up.

I kind of doubt MS will be leading the charge on banning new gas vehicles, so you may have to hold it a while longer before it becomes a collector’s item. I hope you go for the antique car plates though, always love seeing those on an old beater.

Absolutely ridiculous of you to expect them to risk their lives just because you dislike distance learning. Typical "conservative" attitude.. fuck everyone else, fuck the risks they're taking; I'm entitled to what I want now.

If y'all's kids are suffering so much, why don't YOU as the kids' PARENTS do something about it instead of dumping it on the schools? Get with parents of your kids friends and arrange outings so they can still be social while being safe. You got that wonderful CA weather, take your kids out to enjoy it! You want to dump your problems on the government (schools) while at the same time whining about government-funded anything... some of y'all have zero shame LOL

Well, that old beater will get that antique tag if I have any say in the matter. Mississippi just sends it to you when your vehicle is 25 years old, assuming you pay $25 to get it. I just installed new spark plugs, a new ignition module, new spark plug wires, new fog lights, a new valance, tow hooks, a new water pump, a new LED cargo light and a new alternator, so its in pretty good shape. I change the oil every 5000 miles. I don't really care what the gas mileage is, as long as it runs good and gets me where I need to be. No check engine lights and about 200,000 miles on it at the moment. I am hoping that it goes to around 300,000, but that could be a dream.

Dude you are completely clueless....I have done something about it...I hired private tutors to do what the teachers/district is supposed to be doing. What you clearly do not comprehend is we are already paying for teachers/administrators full time work, pensions, etc. My point is there is very little risk to children so they should be in school full time. I also realize there are people like you always want a government hand out and are in full support of all their entitlement programs.

I hope you make it! Growing up in Vermont with all the road salt in winters it was rare to see cars make it quite that far, I imagine MS is a little easier on them. Though it’s hard to beat the CO dry air for preserving things. Lots of “vintage” cars still on the roads here that definitely haven’t lived the HUO life.

Oh your right...we should just stay at home and never have the kids go back to school. My guess is you don't have any kids so you don't get it. If you actually knew what you were talking about you would realize that teachers are not back to work because the county won't allow it yet. That being said the unions have stated that they won't go back to work unless a long list of demands are met that have nothing to do with keeping kids or teachers safe i.e. defunding police forces....yep they've made that request. The unions are a big problem in California, and if u don't realize that your have head up your ass.....

    #631 34 days ago

So you don't like the teachers standing up for themselves and for their safety. You want police to continue attempting to resolve situations they're not equipped or trained to properly resolve, rather than reallocate funding to mental health or other institutions that are much more qualified to de-escalate many of the encounters police screw up today. You don't want to fix the problem or help kids or teachers, you just want your nice, comfortable, pre-covid life back. Gotcha
