This is an industry standard now. You will see this condition in a lot of NIB games from CGC and Stern. I have seen many. It seems to bother some and not others. I personally feel that if you lay down 8k on a NIB game and open the box and notice this, you should put it back in the box and send it back to the dealer!

    Quoted from Fordiesel69:

Yes you can feel the texture with a finger nail. The surface is not bothersome cosmetically, I was wondering if the durability would be an issue.

It depends on who you talk to... I guess we will see in 10 years...

If it was not for the sales tax to pay i think everyone should buy New out of Box and give these games a good inspection before you pay .Manufacturers will then up the QC when they get a bunch of sub par games sitting around nobody wants to pay for ,just my 2 cents

    Amen! Well said.

It's sad when a 20+ year old routed pin cleaned up has a nicer playfield than a freshly opened NIB

Its not sad, Its an abomination!

Thanks Ron really appreciate what you do for the hobby. Is this “ribbing” acceptable for a NIB game today in your opinion?

    #25 6 years ago

I think we need a new word to describe this situation. RIB-GATE

    #27 6 years ago

Not exactly. When your clear coat wood you make it look like plastic. The problem is the plastic looks like wood.

You heard Kruz Ribbed Play fields SUCK!
    Good enough for me...

    Daaaaamnnnn......

    #61 6 years ago

Ok so what I am getting here is that if it's a routed game the ribbing/planking is ok. No player really gives shit. Got that.
I can agree to that. If it is a collector game..... well it SUCKS!

    Quoted from xTheBlackKnightx:

This happened in the past with other titles from titles from Bally/Williams/Gottlieb as well, but these playfields were sold as seconds and not often used in game production

This is what is not happening IMHO. This whole thing amounts to QC. All these companies can produce nice beautiful play fields, that's a fact. Crappy quality play fields are being put into these games. So I guess people have false notions of a NIB game. You are not guaranteed a nice pristine play field for 8k and above. OK so anyone that doesn't like, that just don't buy a NIB game! Pretty simple to me.

    Quoted from pintechev:

Is anyone actually making collector games

You raise an interesting question here marc. IMHO yes when you produce an LE game! Otherwise why buy an LE? For a player, LE makes no sense. A complete waste of money, as long as the game plays the same. If your a player, why would you care about body armor, a number, topper, pretty lights ect...? If you care about the collectability of a game then you spend the extra money for the LE. When you (as a manufacturer) offer a numbers matching LE game you are reaching out the collectors not the players. Wouldn't it make good business sense for at least those games to be as nice as you can build them? The Play field for me is the most important part of a game in game play and how it looks. (artwork, color, quality ect) I want that artwork to shine. Therefore I think that the quality of the playfield determines the long term collectability and value of the game. (something a player could care a less about)

    Quoted from Monk:

I wonder if ribbing will be a problem on the playfields tested with a sledgehammer.

Yes but they will call it Sledging

    This is getting ridiculous
To answer your question, this hobby has many people that want things for their machines and do not want to pay for them. Claiming a playfield defect and getting the manufacturer to give you a new playfield (or populated playfield) is a way to make money at the manufacturers expense. Creating BS about it on this site gets manufacturers to sit up and listen.
Everybody needs to play more Pinball!

    This is complete BS!

    Quoted from pinballinreno:

The distributors I talked to will do whatever work is needed on their end as required by the manufacturer.
If you contact the manufacturer they will ask you if you talked to the distributor on whatever issue you have first.
If the distributor is a piece of crap, and will do nothing to help you after the sale, then the manufacturer will try to help you out if you have a little patience.
We will all know if the distributer isn't worth dealing with on this forum
As far as onwallst issues with his game, Im skepitcal if it ever happened at all. He has not shown any proof that his distributor wouldn't help him out or that he even sent in a ticket to CGC to get any resolution at all.
If his distributer wouldnt help him on a new game, I would like to know who it was and never deal with them.
    CGC does not sell direct.
He could have gotten a replacement playfield blank any time he wanted, just send in a ticket.
I would very much like to see a capture of the ticket he sent in, if he even did it at all.
The issues that were fully documented have all gone up in smoke under even the slightest scrutiny.
So Im skeptical that any of the issues mentioned in that thread ever happened at all, and might just be mindless trolling.
So again, a lot of all of that was just hogwash in my view of it.

By your statement here, you obviously have no idea what your talking about and you obviously did not read the AFMr Owners Thread. He posted his ticket number! Why is that you guys continuesly post BS on this site about that issue. If you really want to be informed on what really happened, try reading the thread, learning how to read or PMing him before posting false staements.

he world must be a wonderful place when looking through those CGC Diffuser glasses

    Holy Shit thats funny! LOL

And I think others will too in time. The market drives the product. If customers demand quality play fields (no ribbing, planking chipping, gauging, cracking poor color and matching ect...) then the companies that step up will be the ones to prosper. The PF for me is the most important part of the game in appearance and structural geometry.
